Hi to all and any one that can help.
I've been asked by a friend to update the firmware on a PVR. Up until now i had never seen one of these and was only experienced in updating SV 1. I've been on the 4shared site and found the PVR files. I downloaded the Oct15th one and the PVR loader too. I noticed thses were .rar files and not .bin like previously. I tried to open the loader but windows tells me it does'nt know what program to use to open it. Downloaded the other loader and it ran like the GTrom but wouldn't recognise the firmware .rar file.
    Any help?
    Many thanks,
    John

    thanks jbvid,
I've now got it set up with a two way splitter, one goes off to another splitter for my pc and dbox(which both still work ok), the other goes to the PVR (with a loop through from 1 out to 2 in). It was still freezing after the first couple of tries last night, i re-powered the box and tried a few more and it seemed better, i set some longer recordings going overnight, i'l let you know if they're ok.
Shouldnt i be able to tell how bad/good the signal is with the signal bars on the info banner and the manual tune screen? At the moment the white top bar is three blocks short of full and the green one is full.

I've seen a few cable signal amplifiers on ebay, you say you've not heard of much success with these? might be worth a try anyway, i can always sell it on again if it doesnt work.

    Hi
I presume you have the latest S/W installed 4.506 15th 0ct. The signal info banner is only a rough guide, watching and recording the picture is the only positive way. It may be worth trying an amplifier if you can sell it on. Another important point is to try and keep you feed cable as short as possible between your cable suppliers box and your PVR (ie feed your PVR first with shortest cable run and only one splitter) and make sure its the right type for cable.

The film I recorded last night lasted about 2 minutes then froze.
I have the latest software. I only put it in on saturday though and the previous version of sw didnt seem to freeze as often/soon as this version, i dont know if that could be down to a slightly different signal feed after i put everything back together again? might be just me.

The cables are about 30cm from supplier to splitter, then about a meter from the splitter to the box. The loop through is about half a meter long which may be a bit long? It was the only one i had with the right connecters.
Its ok if i pause it and watch it timeshifted, wouldnt that be the same as watching something from the hdd?

I'll try feeding straight into the box without any splitters as a test, then if thats ok i'll try an amplifier.
Thanks for your help, i'll post back when i get the amplifier in.

    Hi
Once you have tried it without any splitters and if it is still the same (freezing recordings) you could try another Hard Drive, other than that i'm out of ideas.

Hi jbvid - mine does the same thing - i.e splits a recording into 2 over an hour. I have got the latest firmware i.e 4.506_Oct 2007.
Is there a setting somewhere to stop this from happening?
    Thanks

    Hi
No, just try some tests yourself, different hard drive, remove splitters, one improvement I found was to switch the machine off then on again BEFORE setting any EPG recordings, this worked for me.
Also keep you hard drive as clear as possible, ie watch & delete or put wanted stuff onto DVD.

    hi jbvid

whooo i got a recording that didnt split it was 1.40 minutes the i tried Harry potter film split 2.05 + 0.23 crazy box. And found out if you watch something off the hdd and have a recording set to go off it wont record whilst watching hdd and vice versa if you are recording something you cant open hdd to watch something else or get the epg up when it works.

Any news on a firmware update to the jan 08 release? I think it was a beta release but for sat-downloads site has removed any references to the box pvr....or is it just me?
Does anyone recommend me downgrading to the 406 one. This is causing me a lot of problems with recording, ie. it just doesn't work.... thanks

    Hi guys

I have tried to de-scramble by doing everything you mention on my Starview The Box PVR, but with no success. As mentioned earlier there is no EMU on my version. I have changed the company to C & W, saved that and ensured autoupdate was on. However nothing happened.
    What can I do next.
By the way i have downloaded the latest fix (updated may 2008).
    Hope you can help.

    Hi
Whats' this latest fix you have downloaded? The latest firmware for TheBox PVR is v4.506 Oct 2007. AFAIK there is no fix needed. As stated previously the Starview PVR's, don't have an Emu on/off only have Auto Update on/off.
