    Hi jbvideo
Can you tell me where I can get the F/W update to try it out, and what do you mean when you say it is ONLY a "Beta version"
Also when you load it do you have to rescan and edit channels again from scratch.
Anyone else tried this F/W update or got any info on it,
    Thanks

No problem rekher , glad you got it working :)

zevet .. Beta is a process in a software creation where selected individuals test the program for defects.

In most cases , you do not need to rescan for channels after updating .

Hi i have tried jan 08 firmware to buggy will not recognise your saved recordings, channels have to rescan channels and if you dont save and power box off when you turn on have to rescan again.
when formated hdd recorded a prog 30 minutes long when you play it back only plays about 3 minutes off it when press info it says 30 min but playback is only 3 min.
The epg works when you record now but recording is not in avi still pvr format.
Still very buggy but its looking good that someone is trying to update the firmware hope all goes well soon.

    Hi
I put it on my PVR a couple of weeks ago now and I can't fault it. All my recordings record and play back fine, not lost any channels or had to rescan. Just might be worth trying another Hard drive on yours. Not looked at my files yet to see which format they are in.

Cheers Jb sorry I missed your review, knew you would get it working. Surprisingly I have given it out elsewhere with the usual response of pms saying thanks it works great. And then the few post negative results, hence the reason I havent uploaded it.

Yes , its strange when some people seem to have major probs with it, but I wouldn't change mine back now. I think if you do have a problem you have to be prepared to do some elimination tests on your own STB to try and get to the bottom of it, like different Hard/Drive and recheck its connections, load the S/W again, make sure you have a GOOD cable signal, prefferably without splitters or at least try for any improvements without splitters fitted and finally, try it at a friend or neighbors house on his cable. Those are the best guides I can come up with.
Just one bit of added info that maybe relevant,(Temperature). I have a 2.5" Laptop H/D in mine fitted into a 3.5" conversion carrier and only @ 4500 rpm which keeps the heat down in the STB on long recording runs.

Thats the problem people just want it to work without hassle. So if things are not right, yes it may need some work to iron out one or two things.

I havent had it put in Eamos yet, but will do soon.

I've had a 1st gen Starview box (genuine) for nearly 2 years now with 200+ channels set up and I have just taken the plunge and purchased the 'starview the box PVR' and want to import my current channel list across. Really don't want the hassle of sorting out the channels again.

Will my existing channel data file work with on the starview box pvr and in the PVR loader?

    Hi
Not sure about this one as I only have a PVR but personnaly I would rather take the hassle route as it will only need doing once. The other option could give an expensive doorstop.

Received my starview pvr today and have set it up. have a few questions. It has the Latest (Jan) firmware.

    1) I have sorted my channel list out. However, the channels have a pre-assigned number. Is there any way I canchane the number of a channel? For example. Sky Sports 1 is channel 512 but I want it as channel 40. If I want to watch sky sports 1 I have to enter 512 on the remote.

With the old starview I had the channels' number were determined by their place in the starview channel list.

    2) I have pre-recorded the spain russia match. It has split the recording into 2 parts, I have read about this previously in this thread so will fix that somehow.

    3) The main issue is that on playback of a recording my hard is making a ticking every few seconds like its reading the disc (which it obviously is). Is this normal? wouldn't really mind if it was a bit quieter but it's definately noticeable. Its a Maxtor 160GB drive so I wouldn't expect this from it.

Hope someone can shed some light. Thanx in advance.
P.S. Shall I install the Oct 2007 firmware? Is it more stable/better?

    Hi
The Jan F/W is only a Beta, so try 4.506 Oct to make your mind up which you like best, there are no others any better ATM.
    Questions:
    1. No, use 4.506 Oct Firmware
    2. Just scart record it onto a DVD, it will record both parts auto
    3. Change the H/Drive

Glad you got there in the end, as you say you do have to read plenty and give yourself the time to find out.

I installed the 4.506 Oct firmware this morning. Rescanned and spent a good 2 hours sorting out my channel list. Have to say the Oct firmware is much much better (very similar to starview 1) and the channel numbers now change relative to their position in the channel list! Result!

Will try recording later tonight to see if it still splits recording into 2 parts and if the HDD is still making that sound on playback.

    Thanks for the help JBVid.
