That's strange I,ve had both for nearly 2 yrs now with no prob. Only time to change my channel list is when frequencies have changed.

yep i know but if you read what he wants to do he is missing some channels off his channel list so he wants to get them back so he needs to scan in order to find them again so his original channel list will be gone i would say but as always you could be right

i getting confused here, first you say put version 4 on gen boxes, now u saying it is going to kill my box? what shall i do?

There is a difference with a genuine box and a first gen box it does not matter if you put V2.57 on a genuine box or not it wont do any harm to it but if you put v4.00 on a clone it will kill it ok

So what i suggest as you have a first gen box is put V2.57 on for safety sake that is all

The V2.57 is the same as V4.00 except it was adapted to work on a clone so it would autoroll as the clone box would not autoroll that is all

looking at the clone or gen file. my box doesn't look like the copy box from behind, it looks like the other one & also I got the lattest remote. This is why I think I have the gen box?

there are only 3 types of boxes

first is 13 vent first gen ===========recommend V2.57

second is 18 vent first gen clone ======= recommend V2.57

third is genuine box 25 vent ==== either v2.57 or V4.00 does not matter

you mean the vents on the top cover? my box has 25 vents but I have downloaded the v257ee fixed now.
    Which one do you recommend?

Ok that is fine if you have 25 vent and you have V4.00 on it thats fine no problem if you had the smaller one i was just saying to put the V2.57 on it to be safe

I wish i was able to update my starview. unfortunitely im very stupid when it comes to technology and your update explanation is complete gobble-de-gook to me!

Codes seem to be going on week nights at 6pm then at 3pm on a saturday.

Fair play to everybody on this site who updates the codes very quickly. It is very much appreciated. Im sure im not the only one in that regard.

    Keep up the good work.

If you don't understand any of the update explanation just ask. There are several of us here who are willing to take you through it step by step in simple terms.

Not a problem just post on here when you are ready and if not me someone will be online to help.

Once you've done it you'll realise how easy it is and kick yourself for not doing it sooner!

    Cool thanks!

So what would i need apart from pc and starview box? does the starview require to be plugged into the tv while doing this?

No the box does not need to be plugged into the TV. You will need a null modem serial cable available very cheap from fleabay. Determine whether you have a genuine box or a clone (count how many rows of vents on the top of the box and how many in each row)

Once you've done that get back here to be advised which firmware you need and how to do the rest.

The link below fits the bill
