Hi Liamo, Your box sounds similar to the way that mine was behaving before it stopped altogether and it now just shows "On" on the display. Mine would restart all by itself and then be "ok" after a few minutes cooling down, but then it finally stopped altogether. I think you will find that it's the end of the road for your box. They seem highly subject to overheating, the regulator device on the main circuit board runs very hot at the best of times and only has a little bit of circuit board to dissapate the heat. If the box is in an enclosed environment, it is likely to overheat, cook itself to death, and then die a slow death. They are like everything else in this category, a great device when they work, and a PITA when they don't. There is just a possibility that changing a few specific capacitors on the power supply board might help, and then even the regulator on the main board, but if that doesn't work, you're in the same position as me, dead in the ether with a smart but non working silver box :| Hope that helps and I'm not meaning to sound particularly negative, but once the electronic components fail in this device, help is very limited. You may be lucky, it might just be the PSU capacitors that need changing, but don't bet on it. Cheers and good luck, Woody

Karljd, my problem existed before I flashed my box - I had (stupidly) done a factory reset when I initially lost some of the non fta channels. Up to that point everything was working, since reset I can't get out of the setup because I can't get it to find any channels. As reference I had Cryptstar V1.4 400 on the box when I started having problems. Since losing all the channels I flashed it again with this and then with Version 1.5(both sourced from this site)
If you are in the setup menu you have to go to language first and click on English then you will go to the Installation screen-rescan-Exit_1570-turn EMU on-Sly sports1 wait for updating.
naztynaz, It would be a good idea to immediately to edit your post, you are contravening the forum rules with what you have just posted, so be advised - and do it now please. There has been more than enough warning/advising posts to this effect, please read this. >>>> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/662154 And then it would also help if you read here >>>>>>>>> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487
Thanks Pip. I have selected the language - even changed it to French to make sure - but the problem remains that I can't find any channels during the automatic rescan. I also tried to do a manual scan - no success.
What area are you and have you (obviously a silly question) got the live cable feed plugged into the cable input socket at the back, and have you checked that you do have a LIVE cable feed.
Collie100 - this sounds like my problem. If I understand right autoscan wouldn't find any channels ? Not sure I understand what you mean by "SW transfer from box with channel data" - can you explain?
Malci's "silly" questions should be followed through, it's easy to miss something. Have you turned EMU on or not?
It's not a silly question Malci !! No, I have a live feed from NTHell & have checked cables etc.. as I mentioned previously it was working fine - then I lost a few channels (scrambled) so I tried factory reset - and can't find a channel since. Thats why I thought it might be setting related - factory settings being somehow wrong for area I'm in (Dublin). Can't understand why I can't find even the basic set of channels .....
I have tried with both EMU off and on - although my understanding was that you leave EMU off while doing automatic scan and then turn on ......right ?
If you can't find the basic set of freeview channels then I would double check the following. Connections to the box and TV. Provider-have you scanned the correct one? I've done 16 of thes with no problem so I know it works but even without the new firmware you should still get channels. Your box will still detect them but may not decode them so if the problem is at the scan stage it seems like a connection problem.
Got to pop out for now but will be back. If your problem is not receiving ANY channels then it is not a fimware problem unless you have a clone. All these boxes receive free to air programmes.
I hope i'm asking this in the right place, there are so many rules and threads it gets confusing for an old dodderer like me! I'm at work at present so can't go check things exactly, but I'm hoping i've finally found the right place for fixes for my unit. It's called The Box and is a twin-tuner PVR, with somtimes quite confusing instructions. I had to fit an IDE HD myself. The backscreen to the menus seems to be the same graphic of a satellite type object to the lower right, and the menus look visually similar to all those i've found in the various forums. The 1570 thing doesn't work on mine but the 2007 (in Parental Control?) does. My service provider is n*l but when i first installed it, and when i had to re-scan about a month back, i had to select te**w**t for the scan to find anything. Can someone confim what box i've got (or ask more probing questions if this type of box has a clone) so that i can make sure i get the right fix. My PC doesn't have a serial port, so i presume i need the USB equivalent of the null modem? I have a 4shared account ready if someone can kindly post a link? Thanks for being there, to all the clever guys!
If you had to scan TW last time to get channels thn you have to do it this time. What exactly is your problem?
If this is the box you have >>>>>>>> http://www.skywonder.co.uk/product.php?productid=1018&cat=0&page=1 Then it there for you, it is a Starview The Box PVR, and the firmware fix you need is here >>>>>>>>> http://www.4shared.com/file/75176629/1a775236/The_Box_PVR_081208_FIX.html?dirPwdVerified=ae597ba2 Now as to the question of there being any clones, I personally have not come across one, or anyone posting a problem with regards to one, but I stand to be corrected, as I also think that the majority of the Starview range has been cloned, but I am not 100% certain about the PVR, if it has then someone will be along to verify especiall jbvideo, at least.
need help please, tried to flash origional starview,it said download succesfull but all I am getting on my box is one static green line. when I switch on from the back I get a running three lines but then goes to just one, have I messed it up ??
