You have downloaded the correct loader and firmware from eamo's? Sometimes you can get a corrupt download, try deleting them and downloading again.

I assume you have all the correct cables if you have been doing other boxes.

I have never done a box t but i believe they are very similar to the original starviews.

Still at a friends...with Ch**us. Went in did a set default key but Chor*s still not in the options (NTL, Ex Ch & W, OM, TW). Did a factory restting and still no chou*s. Will I just go home and try your option above or will I test it in a friends ?

They are supposed to be the same as the SV3 but are MMDS for Ireland only so as I'm UK based I'm at a loss but it may be that checking the docs for SV3 you may get an answer unless someone who has or knows more about them comes on.

You may get a quicker answer here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/619549

Sorry for that...I did not know there were different fixes..otherwise I would have stated...thanks for taking the time to look into it..
There is no specific Irish or UK firmware for the Starview 1, as I have said, you have got the correct Firmware installed okay. As regards the Cho**s provider issue, all you should need to do is Menu - 1570 to enter the Cas System Menu and press Set Default Key and exit out to TV, (That is if you wish to try the setup at your friends) when you go back in it should have been restored. The essential point that you need to check, (And I Know It Sounds Silly) is that you do have a LIVE cable feed, and that you do have that feed plugged into the Cable Input Socket, and make sure that you do a Factory Reset before doing another Automatic Scan like so >>>>>

Turn on the box, press menu go down to Factory settings OK and enter pin Ok to confirm.
Accept English OK and go to installation OK.
Select correct provider i.e. NTL, C/W or TW.
Then automatic scan
Once the channels are found, exit back to the Main Menu screen
Enter 1570 via the keypad.
Go down to the bottom option and turn EMU to ON.
Now exit 3 times and go to S*y Sports and let it update.
Yep, Take it home, I have just checked the SV1 and Ch*r*s has gone awol for some strange reason, but it is still appearing on the SV2, can't explain it - so best to do it at home okay.

malci, It's a The Box-T MMDS I know nothing about it as it's Ireland only but having read only one thread about it I can see a problem that I certainly can't solve. I didn't know the boxes existed!

Learning curve.

I think this is one for either sc0user or fergusb(if he wishes)

FAO pippincp or to anyone else that might be able to help.

Hi, I've posted a request for help twice on here but never got a reaction. Maybe it's because no-one has a way of offering me help, maybe it's because my box is k*ac*ered lol or maybe it just went un-noticed, but anyway, I'll try again with a re-post of my original request concerning my dead Starview PVR (later to be renamed theBox PVR)
If anyone knows where the electronics wizards are in the NW of England (preferably Liverpool/Manchester) please let me know.

Thanks
Woody

REPOST from 21/12/2008 -

Hi guys, new guy here hoping to find an electronics wizard.
My StarviewPVR (twin tuner) has stopped working properly and just shows "On" but the remote won't make it do anything. Another thread somewhere else pointed to component failure with some Caps in the PSU, well Maplin supplied replacements but no change. Next it was suggested that the regulator on the main board had gone, and it turned out that it had, changed it, and it promptly blew again. So have changed it for a higher spec regulator but it just gets very hot so I switch off. I know this will mean that there is another component or 2 or more gone on the main board but with SMD components it is impossible for me to identify which ones.
It is definitely the main board because if I disconnect it, then the hard drive spins up which it doesn't do otherwise.
Does anyone know of any "expertise" on this subject in the Liverpool area I can call upon to assist ?

Cheers and Happy Crimbo
Woody
(Incidentally, all this went on before any code changes so it isn't down to that aspect of working.

END OF REPOST

Sorry woody, when it comes to components I can't help, I only try to help with firmware.

Why didn't you take it back to the vendor when you first had a problem?

Ok pippin, thanks for the reply and I understand where you're coming from. I can manage the s/w issues perfectly too lol, but the hardware and it's SMD devices has done my head in :(
Reason it never went back is that it was bought 2nd hand from e*ay and worked perfectly for 6 months until I "cooked" it in a badly vented tv/hifi cabinet........oh well....... I guess they are only low budget gadgets and not high spec, what else could I have expected from Korea lol. My DBox was fine in the same space, and that is much bigger but I suppose the extra heat from the hard drive didn't help. It is just the frustration now that is bugging me, I'm sure someone somewhere locally has some SMD test gear / knowledge, I just need to find them and try not to bug them lol
Cheers for now
Woody

Sorry I could't help woody but its always better to buy from where you can go back to, and I doubt the heat prob was the problem but Hey-ho!

Hi pippincp,
What does its "Box-T MMDS " mean ? How do i know this ? Does this mean it would need a different .bin file loaded ? Excuse the ignorance !!

http://www.tech-faq.com/mmds-multichannel-multipoint-distribution-service.shtml

It means the box doesn't actually use a cable feed but the aerial on the roof.

I think.

Check with your mate.

@Dboxhead. Some confusion here The Box-T did not refer to yo9ur problem.
had to go back through the thread to check.

However to get back to your problem.

We know you have the correct firmware installed so it has to be the signal in. Are you sure your feed is live? You can test this by putting the cable feed directly into your TV and see if you are getting the basic channels.

Do you have any splitters on your feed?

Have you tried connecting at the point of entry (ie the box on the wall where your line comes in)?

Hi pippincp thanks for the reply but I have the right com port but the firmware wont load for some reason. (nightmare)

Has anyone else downloaded for the box-t loader/firmware from Eamos library. I have downloaded previous firmwre with no problems what so ever, I am afraid it might be the box but it was working before on the old firmware. I have deleted the loader and firmware and downloaded them again with the same result...bad flash.

Please help this thing is killing me.

Pipincp and Malci and anyone else that helped....thanks for all your help. I plugged the box into the main cable feed into the house and that did the trick !! Although I was a bit apprehensive as once it found the channels it took about 5 mins to update...it was stuck on 0% for about 4.5 of those mins..but its working..big learning curve..but next time it goes I will know what I am doing :)

Thanks again !!
Elaine.

Hi there,

Before you people tell me to search the forum I have searched the forum and tried all the suggestions and none worked. Maybe I am missing something! So heres the story ----->

I have "The Box" or some call it "Starview 2". The problem Im having is that the only channel I have is R*E 2 and any other stations give me "data is being updated 0%" and it goes no further. Im on N*L Dub.

I have installed the latest firmware Ver 4.57e_E and have still the same issue. I have tried downgrading to an earlier firmware 455 an still the same before an after bringing it up to Ver 4.57e_E

I have done a factory reset. Powered the box of and on done a channel scan found all stations then went some of the suggested channels and turned the Emu on from the secret menu 1570 and still no progress. "data is being updated 0%" and stays there. I have also tried "set the default key" on suggested channels and no joy either.

The box is working perfect on the FTA channel so its something small Im sure.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong.!!

Any help appreciated and thanks in advance.
