Yep, it's the exact null modem cable from Maplin given as an example on page 1 of this thread!

When I connect the null modem cable direct to my pc should this device show up in Ports in device manager? It doesn't on mine.

But when I connect a USB adapter it does show up in Ports!

Hi , i've been trying to get my original Starview working again for a while now, its not worked properly since May. Autoscan on Ex c&* sees only 20 channels or so. I have re-flashed again today with the 'CrypStar-v1.4-GenuineOnly' firmware which has not improved anything.

So to get to the point, can anyone provide me with a link to or a Starview Channel Data File for the the Manchester area on ksps 6952.

My thinking is maybe the signals weak and it will help 'see' the channels on a scan if the channel data is already there. Thanks.

    Hi,

Have a Genuine The Box. Mate at work had it working fine, then he had a powercut and it stopped at the 4th line. I followed the instructions above and managed to flash 4.50 to it via the download before turning on technique mentioned in the OP. It flashed ok, but now stops on the 3rd line and only shows The Box screen on the TV and halts.

Any ideas? Please? In Ireland incidentally. Obviously there remains the possibility a surge from the powercut fried something inside.

    Many tnx,

    Inq

can anyone help please, this may sound daft but i have just bought a starview 3 box the box super,i am trying to flash the box but think there is either something wrong with the cable or the box.i bought a 9 pin to usb cable from ebay, but when i connect it up i keep getting usb device not recognized,i didn't get a disc with the box so i assume u don't need one.at the moment i am connecting my new cable to the one supplied then connecting the female end of the cable supplied to the box,am i doing this right?i assume it is coz the cabes i see on ebay and maplins are male 9 pin to usb and you obviously need female to plug into back of pc,i can't see female to usb anywhere.can anyone explain simply what i may be doing wrong or how to connect properly,i have all the software downloaded on pc ready to go but can't use it yet.

Ok just thebox out of storage after not being used for quite a while.

    api version 4.5e_E
    boot version 7.0

Majority of channels are there but there are a few that are not. Mostly ones that i actually payfor.

Any ideas what could be wrong. They are getting the scrambled signal message. Im located in ireland.

there has been a few frequencies shifted you can try manually scanning them or a factory reset and then an autoscan or a channel dump for your area.

just following up my earlier post, is there a location for channel file dumps. I have seen a thread where this was proposed in 2007. I was asking for a Manchester area Ex C&* channel file.

nice. manual scan has done the trick i think. its found some of the missing channels. i think its just a matter of messing with the frequencies to get the rest.

my guess would be that the cable is faulty try borrow one form some one or replace the one you got

Hi Karljd, thx, i did try scanning on all available providers TW, OM, N*L and Ex C&*. I noticed Ex was on 6952, no cleverer than that really. Whats on 6887?.
Also i scanned again last after messing about with the connection again and *ky Sort 1 appeared however its heavily scrambled. Maybe local signals bad or the cable is bad in some way or the Starview is just old now, i've had it a few years.

don't think it matters how old the box is,n@l is 6887,is your signal split?
