I've been trying to figure out what "sauce" is the Subway house sauce. Does anyone know the actual name of the sauce so that I could go and purchase it from the super market. If no one does, does anyone at least know any other good sauces? I got Hellman's Sweet and Sour Sauce, and let me tell you, worst thing I've ever eaten, makes me want to puke.

    Jack Daniel's Honey Mustard

    Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00
    Categories : Copycat Sauces

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    1/2 cup Honey
    1/2 cup Dark vinegar
1/2 cup Dark brown sugar -- packed
    2 Eggs
    2 tablespoons Flour
    2 tablespoons Prepared French's yellow -- mustard

Put honeoy, vinegar, sugar, eggs and flour into blender a few seconds
to blend at high speed until smooth. Transfer to a 2-quart saucepan.
Cook on medium high whipping briskly with whisk to prevent it from sticking to bottom of pan.
It will thicken just as it comes to a boil. Quickly add mustard
and whiskey. Continue to cook and stir briskly only 1/2 minute.
Remove from heat. Add the horseradish. Beat well.
Cool completely. Bottle and cap tightly.
    Can store refrigerated 6-8 weeks.
Freezes for months. Recipe can be halved.

    Subway Sweet Onion Sauce

    1/2 cup light corn syrup
    1 tablespoon minced white onion
    1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
    2 teaspoons white distilled vinegar
    1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
    1 teaspoon brown sugar
    1 teaspoon buttermilk powder
    1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
    1/8 teaspoon poppy seeds
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    pinch cracked black pepper
    pinch garlic powder

Combine all ingredients in a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat mixture uncovered in the microwave for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes on high until mixture boils rapidly. Whisk well, cover and cool.

    Makes about 2/3 cup.

    Subway's Chipotle Southwest Sauce

The chipotle in the recipe can be adjusted according to taste.

    1 cup mayonnaise
    1/2 ounce Dijon mustard
2/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice 1 ounce chipotle chili in adobo, pureed
3/4 ounce fresh garlic, minced salt, to taste

Combine mayonnaise, mustard, lime juice, chipotle and garlic. Add salt to taste. Cover and chill
before sandwich preparation, or before using as a salad dressing.

    Subway: Meatball Marinara

If you're a true meatball lover, the key thing Subway's sandwich does is make you crave more of their yummy, yummy meatballs. Each 6-inch sandwich contains only 4 tiny (1¼-inch, 3/4-ounce) meatballs. Being an East Coaster — raised Italian, I take issue with that. We like meat. In fact, we expect meat. So I made my meatballs a bit bigger, while reducing the fat by more than 50 percent.

Another objection I have is that Subway puts American cheese on a Meatball Marinara sandwich. Do they even know what American cheese is in Italy? Though I've kept the recipe true to Subway, I always add mozzarella to mine, and I invite you to do the same. Plus, I've found some amazingly tasty low-fat mozzarella cheeses. If you disagree with me (I'm sure many of you will), feel free to stick with American. I promise not to take it personally.

    * Subway said customers could choose from Swiss, cheddar, provolone, Pepper Jack or mozzarella for their meatball sub.

    Ingredients

    olive oil spray
    1 tablespoon dry bread crumbs
    1 tablespoon fat-free milk
2½ ounces 96 percent lean ground beef
    1 tablespoon egg substitute
    ½ teaspoon dried parsley leaves
    ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    ¼ teaspoon onion powder
    ¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup Subway Marinara Sauce (see below)
1 submarine sandwich roll (about 6" long)
1 slice (½-ounce) 2 percent milk white American cheese, halved diagonally

    Subway Marinara Sauce

    olive oil spray
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
    2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 1/3 cups canned crushed tomatoes
    ¼ cup water
    2 teaspoons sugar
    2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil

Lightly mist a large nonstick skillet with oil spray. Set over medium heat. In the skillet, combine the onion and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon, for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the onion starts to soften but not brown. Reduce the heat to low. Add the tomatoes, water, sugar, oregano and oil. Stir to blend well. Refrigerate up to 1 week until ready to use.

Makes 2 cups, enough for 4 sandwiches

Do you people not have noses.. Have you ever walked past one of these places. They STINK... I cross the street because the rancid smell makes me want to throw up. And WTF is a sub?? is it short for something? or just another americanism poisoning our beautiful language?

Before you ask, I have never eaten in or from one of these places.. the smell puts me off. I don't think my stomach contents could survive entering one.

It's Short For Submarine Sandwich ! I suppose taken from the submarine-esque /torpedo shape of the sandwich ? I'm not a big fan of subway mainly because they're expensive for the amount of food your getting ! and They Push the whole Gourmet Bread Thing ( Get your TeriyakI Chicken sweet onion Sub On fresH baked Jalapeno` Chhese bread !) or whatever the Fancy Smancy Bread is ? And unless you get there at exactly the right time what do you get ? Plain Bread ! Give me a Roast beef PoBoyon french Bread or a Muffelatta anyday Over subway Yeah !
