I have an unprotected DVD which appears to be a standard 4.7 gig size. When I try to copy the many videos on it the file become super big. The different software I have tried say the DVD has over 48 G of data! I know this is not possible. How do I correct for this to make a simple copy?

DVDFab allowed me to copy the DVD but the copied DVD will not play on my PC (Vista or XP) or an apple.

If you play the original disk on a standalone player, does it display the Title number (perhaps using Display or Status on the remote).

Playing the original disk on the PC with the likes of MPC, will also list the Title.

The Title that is displayed is the one that has to be ripped.
In DVDFab, selecting 'Main Movie' should list the Title numbers and you would select the one displayed on the Standalone to rip.

If that doesn't help, try the VideoHelp site.
