    After all the fixes and shaders are done, would I be able to run Oblivion on medium quality with a 5200FX NVidia card with the specs I posted before?

    Good news for all you ppl with old pc's. A mod has been released that simplifies the game's most visually demanding graphics. I was originally going to get this for myself, but I just sucked it up and got a new motherboard and processor.

    Called OLDblivion, the mod adds support for older video cards as well.

    As you can see, the game still looks good. There may still be some bugs in the mod, but it's better than nothing.

    Ok, I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I'll have to upgrade my video card. Even with the fixes, it still runs a bit clunkier than I'd like it too. No worries, I found a GeForce 6200 128MB video card online for about 30 bucks, which should make Oblivion playable if I'm not mistaken. You think that video card would suffice?

    As for the current card, even with the new .exe file, it still crashes when I access the menu on the main page and it crashes when I access the video menu during the game. Is there something I'm forgetting or just does my video card completely suck?

    @ lastrednk

    Make sure you have the .exe file (as you stated before),
    But you need to run Oldblivion EXE to run the game.
    To fix the menu crash, be sure to change the following in
    your oblivion.ini file.

    bForce1XShaders=1
    bHighQuality20Lighting=0
    bAllow20HairShader=0
    bAllowScreenShot=1
    iMultiSample=0
    bDoTallGrassEffect=0
    bForceMultiPass=0
    bDoTexturePass=1
    bDoSpecularPass=1
    bDoDiffusePass=0
    bDoAmbientPass=0
    bDoCanopyShadowPass=0
    bDrawShadows=0
    bUseRefractionShader=0
    bUse Shaders=1

    All these should be changed in your .ini
    The ONE in BOLD is causing the crashes.
    With these changes if your framerate is still slow,
    You can also try these console options.
    WHILE PLAYING IN GAME
    Press '~' to open the console and enter ONE of these commands.

    1) SLP 1
    (sets the current lighting passes to one)
    WILL NOT WORK unless you have the shaders installed.

    2) TLB
    Changes the light in the textures,
    Will change the brightness and CAN increase the framerate.

    You wont see much of an increase witha 6600 as it is still
    the bottom of cards (because this game requires uber shaders).
    I would try these fixes beacuse your still going to need them
    even if you upgrade to a 6600.

    You will need a 6800 at least to get a good framerate
    WITHOUT changing the shaders.

    Ok, I changed the value in the .ini file (under My Games, not the actual Oblivion folder) from 1 to 0, saved, and started the game. Go to the video menu, make the adjustments I want to make, and it crashes again. I go back to the .ini file and the diffusevalue IS BACK AT 1 INSTEAD OF 0! What gives?

    I dont know why that is happening.
    Unless you are running the oblivion launcher,
    When you should be running Oldblivion instead to the run game.
    If your running Oldblivion and still crashing at the video option,
    Edit the .ini file again and make it read-only.

    Simply running the oldblivion program worked for me on this crash,
    but other people had to change the .ini as well.
    I am running an ati card (9200 se) nvidia cards may act
    a little different.

    Either way you should have this working by now,
    I will be here to offer my support,
    Cheers and good luck!

    Still doesn't work. Changed .ini file to read-only, made sure diffusepass value was at 0, saved as read-only, launched, opened video settings, clicked return.....CRASH! I even deleted the OblivionLauncher (it's in the recycle bin currently)

    I'll screw around with this a little more when I wake up, I'll probably try re-downloading everything and making sure the shaders are set up properly, I'm starting to suspect that, for whatever reason, the shaders you provided didn't get put in it's right place.

    I tried all the above mentioned .ini fixes, I have the new shader pack (Which helped a LOT!)

    I even tried running Oldblivion.

    Oldblivion puts my framerate from around 2-5fps up to at least 30, probably closer to 60; I can't really tell. Mostly because the prison walls are see-through, my hands look like something from quake2, except that they are transparent; and I can see every window in the prison from anywhere in the prison, because there are big white and blue chunks wherever they are, and I can see through everything; so it's never a problem finding them... Looking around the cell you start in, everything is just all kinds of jumbles and graphical errors.... I read that oldblivion had shotty FX support; and I can certainly see why now.

    Aside from oldblivion, it looks like my framerate is maxing out around 10-15 when I don't have too much on screen. I did the ini fixes, and the shaderpack. Can anyone suggest anything else for my little old FX5700le? I really am interested in running this game, I can't return it since I opened it, and the bottom of the box said that my system would run it. (Yes, the package says GeForce FX Series) I don't normally play games on such bad settings; but I am just so interested in this game, that I'm more than willing to do so.

    Does anyone have any suggestions. I cannot replace the video card; I don't have the spare cash, and the video card was just replaced in January (I had a ti4800 beforehand), so it would be a waste anyways. It astounds me that I can run BF2 so well, when so many people are challenged by it; but I can't squeeze a few extra frames from Oblivion.

    Any other suggestions would be more than appreciated.

    Hi all. Thanks already to Jizmak for all his help on this thread!

    My specs:
    Asus A9250 ATI Radeon 9250 8X AGP 128 MB DDR
    Athlon 2400+ 1.59Ghz chip
    768MB PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM

    Without tweaks I got only the white screen problem with my Radeon 9250. I used the 5 steps Jizmak gave in his other post. I am very happy playing this game with the setup I have gotten it into, but I'd like to know if I can make it even better, with full view distance so that I can appreciate the landscapes.

    The only things I have trouble with now are these: Strange looking water, blue trees unless I use a ridiculous "setfog" value, and trees floating in the air far off.

    I've installed the patch to remove the purple water, but my water now looks like a solid, flat blue tint which I can see through perfectly in close range, but is completely solid, opaque bright blue at far range. Is there any way to tweak this? I'd like the water to look more like water and less like "blue tint" if possible.

    First, here is a shot of the water effect and the blue trees effect still happening at far range with [bold]setfog 100000 100000[/bold]:
    [IMG]

    I can use [bold]setfog x x[/bold] to get rid of the blue trees thing. However, I find that in large areas I can still see the far trees as blue unless I use some crazy number like [bold]setfog 3000000 3000000[/bold]. (that's three million!) Is there any reason not to use something really high like three million? Is there another way to handle this bad fog effect without just turning this value up?

    Here's a screenshot of the floating trees:
    [IMG]

    As I approach the floating trees, the ground gets drawn in as I get close when it loads the area, but until I'm that close the trees just float as if the game expects the ground to be drawn below them. I'd like the whole ground to be drawn the whole time. Is this possible with the tweaks?

    Any help would be great,

    Tektite

    @ handsom

    FX users should run oldblivion ver .11t.
    Radeon and other non fx nvidia cards should be using ver .12t

    I will link to the Oldblivion version for fx users here:
    http://www.oldblivion.com/test/oldblivion_0.11t1.zip

    @ Tektite

    As far as the trees rather than using setfog command,
    Try using TLB in the console.
    Should fix the trees for now.
    Asp is going to fix the fog in the next version of Oldblivion
    From what Asp says on his website 'tlb' is the only fix right now.
    As fog has not been correctly implemented yet.

    You can add the water featires individually in the .ini file,
    To make the 'effects' more real (water depth, relflections ect..)
    Howvwer you will lose framerate adjusting these values.
    But you may able to find a good medium between playablity and
    eyecandy.

    bUseWaterReflectionsMisc=0
    bUseWaterReflectionsStatics=0
    bUseWaterReflectionsTrees=0
    bUseWaterReflectionsActors=0
    bUseWaterReflections=0 <---change for more realistic water
    bUseWaterHiRes=0 <--- This
    bUseWaterDisplacements=0
    bUseWaterShader=0 <--Not running Oldblivion will cause a crash
    uDepthRange=0 <---- (I wouldnt go over 5-10 ft)
    bUseWaterDepth=0 <---Change to 1 for cloudy deep water
    bUseWaterLOD=1

    bUseWaterShader=1
    Will cause users to crash UNLESS your running oldblivion.
    If you are running Oldblivion you can change this to 1 and
    have realistic water at the sacrifice of framerate.

    If you guys still have problems feel free to check Asp's
    oldblivion FAQ it can be found here:

    http://www.oldblivion.com/wiki/tiki-view_faq.php?faqId=1

    Cheers

    I have this thin gray cloud everywhere I go. It's about 4 feet off the ground and it covers the entire floor anywhere I go. It's about not thick at all... like an ugly floating grey carpet. Any ideas? I'm using the oldblivion (fx suggested one) with a 5700 ultra.

    Ok, I guess I'll just have to tweak the graphics in the .ini if I want to adjust the graphics quality. But really, since I downloaded the oldblivion .11t1 (I was using .11t2), the game has actually run better. Not nearly as choppy. Using TLB and adjusting the setfog has really, really helped.

    Also set the .ini file to read-only and the settings remained the same after I adjust them.

    Thanks for the help Jizmak, I think my problems (for the most part) are solved.

    Edit: Had to finish a sentence. *blush*

    @ Tektite
    Q: I have green or grey "blobs" that don't have collision all over my terrain, or I can't see distant landscape. How do I fix that?
    A: You have to edit your Oblivion.INI and change fLODLandVerticalBias from 0 to -1200 (yes, minus 1200).

    Q: My distant trees are in the air. What to do?
    A: This had not been fixed yet.

    @ kruagh

    Turn off bloom in the options menu.
    Should correct the 'aura' problem.

    @ lastrednk

    Glad you got the game where you can enjoy it.
    I prefer playability over eyecandy but as long as you
    are happy with the results THAT is all that matters.

    @ Everyone

    Good night and see you all some time tomorrow!
    Cheers!

    I applied the patch, and my framerates are like the ones that I'm used to on every other game now, which is absolutely wonderful. But I've got a pretty hefty set of graphical snaffoos.

    The objects in the distance (I would say 15ft from the character) aren't yet drawn, so I'll see the top part of a pillar, but there will be a gap where the actual pillar is until I get about 10ft. from it, when it is suddenly drawn in, even though all the details around it were already drawn in before...

    I understand draw distance, but some things aren't drawing in until I'm about to touch them, it's causing some gameplay troubles.

    If I adjust the in-game draw distances, would that fix this? Or is this more directly related to the .11 patch?

    If anyone could assist me with making the draw distance more than about 10 or 15 ft.; I would greatly appreciate it. If it is of any informative benefit; I'm also noticing that the actual characters draw at about 30 ft (Which can make for a very irritating 'people of the fog' look...)

    Thanks in advance!

    Check these distance settings in the OBLIVION.INI file.
    (Also I would make sure that distant buildngs and land is on
    not trees just distant buildings and land.
