I was copying my new DVD of 300 to my hard drive yesterday but did not get very far. It messed up my WIFI and now "My computer" shows no DVD-ROM drive, it wont play any disks. Have reinstalled the drivers to no avail. By the way I am using an Acer Aspire 5610 laptop. All so I have a U3 thumb drive that was working fine now when I plug it in it say I have not got Win XP, or Vista ( wich I have Vista) so it wont work. Beware people I think it put a virus or some such on my comp. Can any one help me or has this happened to any one else?

I have a desktop computer with XP. I backed up 300 using AnyDVD,
Shrink, and Imgburn. I did the movie only. Have not had any
problems with my computer. The disc played perfectly.

I was using DVDfab Decrypter because DVD Shrink would not work. I still have no DVD-Rom drive listed it's like it has vanished. Am going to take it to Circity City to see if they will help, bought a 4 year warannty which they say the first year is under manufacture waranty only, but I am leaveing for China in one week and need it fixed.
But I am sure it was the movie that did it.

I have been reading of several problems with Vista and video backup
software. Since I'm not using Vista I can't be of any help there.
I think you are wise to have a tech look at it since you are leaving
    the country shortly.
    Good luck.
By the way when I use DVDFabDecrypter on a Sony movie, I always run
it through FixVTS. Some of the AD members use VOB Blanker. Those
Sony movies are notorious for structure problems. If the movie has
a structure problem Shrink will not recognize it.
If you had more time the other thing you might have tried is deleting
your file for this movie and doing a system restore to an earlier
    date.

A friend of mine that is good with computers says that my DVD-Rom may have burned out, after only haveing 6 months thats great. So he said to try and an external through the USB ports but as noted above having some trouble with U3 thumb drives in USB ports so will try later to day and post result.

Looks like the much touted "Vista DRM lockout" It was designed to stop people copying movies you know..

I await your findings with interest
