    Hi Guys,

I,m completly clueless about this sort of stuff to the point that I,m not even sure what type of box I have, was reading some of the posts and there was so many types. I would really appreciate it if some one could point me in the right direction. I have the new codes, I just have no idea what software I'm meant to upload first or if I even need too.

A guide for "updating the box for idiots" would be good.....

Why does the OP need to send you a pm?

That's what this forum is all about, you don't go sending the information in secret, now that would do the other posters with the same problem no good would it, it's called sharing. Now if you want a guide then I can point you in several directions, but first lets start with the identification, you have started the thread with the title containing the Firmware 4.50, well that is Firmware for Starview 2 The Box, now if it says The Box in the top left hand side front of box, then it is definately Starview 2 The Box. As regards an idiots guide (you words not mine) then just click on the link marked Starview 2nd line at the bottom of my post and you will find a very helpful tutorial courtesy of Celtic, with regards to updating the box okay. And if you want to see pictures of what you will need to do the job, then click on the link marked Eurovox and you will see the lead/s you want, it is a different box, but same connectivity okay, so make a start with that, and when you have the correct equipment then come right back and you will receive all the help that you need, there is always someone around to help you.

    Hi there,

I'm having trouble flashing the firmware for "thebox". It's an original, not a clone. I have read Eamo's excellent guide for flashing problems and tried everything I can think of. I'm using the 4.03 software and the 455eE bin file. Com port is picked up ok. Whatever I try results in "flash update failed". Have done this at least 30 or 40 times just to be sure! I'm using a RS232 and have loaded the software to recognise the usb to my laptop. When connected though, it doesn't pick up "thebox" as a device on my computer. Perhaps it shouldn't.

    My current setup:
    API ver: 4.51e_E
    Boot ver: 7.0

Trying to flash the UK fix.
4.03 loader software with 455eE .bin file.

    Result: "flash update fail..."

There's no rush on this but I'd appreciate some guidance here. Thanks in advance!

Will a RS232 (usb to serial convertor) cable and a gender changer not be enough. It does look exactly the same!

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replies, the links to the pther posts were really good. I figured out that I have a starview 2. Was trying to get a null modem wire but they were sold out so I just input the codes anyway and now the box is working.

Is this a temoporay fix and I still need to update the firm ware to a newer version or was entering the new codes all i needed to do?

If i still need tp update firmware, what version should i get.

Thanks again for all the help guys.

Yes you will still need to update your box, because the same hing will happen shortly no doubt, and you will need this >>>>>>>>>>

    Use this Loader >>>>

Just make sure that you have App Files Only box checked okay, so download them both to your PC ready for when you get the NULL MODEM lead.

    Hi

Hope someone can help me again, I have got a starview 2 and downloaded the Software in the posts above from malci. I got the null modem wire and USB adaptor today but I everytime I try to flash the box the progress bar stays at 0% and a message appears saying flash failed.

I have read celtic's post about switiching the box off at the back then hitting download before switching back on but my box usually just turns back on to a channel rather than staying in standby. I was using the tutorial in the above post and have checked I selected port 4 on the loader so don't think thats the problem, was I meant to turn firewalls off before I started, I thought i read that on a post a few weeks back. Hope someone can help

Just a quick word, have to dash off - Your problem is definately to do with the assigning of the USB to the correct COMM port, they do tend to be a real pain, and no there is no need to turn your Firewall off, (It is better of course that you close any other application that you may be running) so have a look here (AT First Link) and try to get that part correct, then have a look at the 2nd link. >>>>>>

If you cannot get the Damn thing to flash via the USB Adaptor, then you would be wise to find a friend/aquaintance who has a standalone PC with the correct 9 pin serial port and running OP XP, it will save you a lot of headache, good luck.

    Hey Malci,

Cheers for the advise again, couldn't get it working using the laptop no matter how much I tried changing the com ports like those threads suggested but got it working straight away when I used a PC.

The simplest fix's are always the best ones.

Cheers again for the help and have a Happpy New Years!!!!!!
