Hi everyone im very new to this an i need help,i have ntl down stairs an i have all the chanels an its great but upstairs i baught the box for me daughter it was working fine for about 6 months but for the last 5 weeks its just saying updating please wait. Now when i got it your man said it updates itself cos he programed it or something PLEASE can anyone help cos im sick of buying peppa pig dvds for me 2 yr old its time i got this sorted {if i can}ANY help would be so great thanks
The cable companies changed their firmware about five weeks ago, so you need to flash your box. Are you sure it is Starview 2 'The Box'? You need a null modem cable if you have a pc with xp and a 9 pin serial port, make sure it is null modem and not just an rs232. You will find all you need in eamo's library, under malci or scouser's signature.
THANKS for the reply but with all do respect im a thick when it comes to computers honest and this is me first time on this site .Its just called the box {not super or any other name}thats all i know i heard people talking about putting in new codes but if it were a case were id have to do this every time she wants to watch tele i think id have to get another boggy ntl box or something .What your saying is it easy for a novice like me to do its just i dont want to screw it up . please WB cos i want help wit this thanks a lot
what operating system have you got on your computer? if it is windows xp and you have a serial port connection all you need is a null modem lead and you should be fine. Thanks for reply me laptop says windows vista an i cant see any ports other than lan,internet and power and theres a blue yolk for some connection thats it . Does starview just mean freeview boxes an do ye think if i flash my box it will sort it out {some people might take that the wrong way}and can i not sort it out wit just the tele and box thanks
Dom the easiest way is to Borrow a PC with XP on it get the required cables: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/674371 for your reference and do as Eva suggested via those links... and dont be worried about using the word Flashing we are all doing it !! LOL
Yea thanks ill get the cables and do what eva said, when i do this does this mean i wont have to put in any codes in the near future or at least for a while and another thing i live in dublin is it the same for all areas thanks

I dont think we have maplin here but ill get them ASAP no problem an i went to them sites that eva said an it looks like i have to download stuf which i havent got a clue about but im sure someone will help me here as you said thanks for the advice des
LOL You do have Maplins "Here" theres one in town Jervis street, and theres one in Blanch shopping centre!!
