I'm not sure what's going on then? I remember a while back I had a similar issue that I could not resolve, I just gave up on it. Maybe Ryu77 can help.

    Hi Ryu.

    Thanks for creating the Guide.

Just wondering if there is an easier way of going from Bluray to DVD-9.

These are the steps that I take at this time.

    1.Anydvd Blueray to harddrive.
2.Tsmuxer only main video and main DTS audio.
3.Mkvmerge the movie file to MKV format. (so i can get it is compatible with (Megui).
4.MEgui - create AV script with only video.
    5.Calculate Bitrate to 6.8G
    6.Run YOUR script.
7.Run TSmuxer once again with the new raw h.264 file and the downconverted audio to create bluray structer.
    8.Burn to disc.

Is there a way to go from demux straight to Megui for bit rate compression?

    Thanks for your insight.

    B.

I use the m2ts file directly from my BD rips, even with all of the extra streams included... however you will most likely need the file size of the audio to calculate your new compressed bitrate so demuxing is sometimes necessary. Also if there is two video streams withing the m2ts file (from the BD rip).

Anyway, I suggest using eac3to to demux. It's a lot more accurate when demuxing, and it will remux to mkv on the fly... if you tell it to.

    Check this thread for help.

You could always use the nice little GUI created for EAC3to exactly for this task. HdBrStreamExtractor needs to be executed from the EAC3to root directory. This handy little app will automatically find the main movie for you when pointed towards the Blu-ray folder and allows you to extract to raw or various other formats...

I appreciate what you are trying to do but you really should have read the rules before making that post. Please read (especially rule # 5 and the section on invites to private sites)...

There's a good guide and download with everything, except the BD writer, in one bundle with all of the apps and a good description. Download it a read up, come back here if you have more questions.

    For starters though you should have;

-BD read/writer, bonus if it reads HDDVD (for HDDVD->BD conversion)
    -AnyDVDHD
-Burning software, your new BD drive will come with this, or you can use IMGBurn, it's free.
    -Blank BDs and/or DVDs

i wanna make a 1080p WMV with 5.1 sound file to play on my XBOX360 Elite. I intend to stream it through Windows Media Extender. i already have a 21 GB .m2ts file that i ripped with tsMuxeRGUI. I made it from backing up a Blu-ray disc I own. can you point me to a guide or post you made in this thread that can show me how to go from there to make my 1080p WMV 5.1 file? i have all the programs and files you mentioned to download in the first post in this thread. Please let me know. thanks a lot.

    Merry Christmas! :D

Thanks guys for all your insight and knowledge. I am just now ripping blu rays to my hard drive with anydvd and have the m2ts file with the movie. My problem is the language is in French and I want to have it in English. I have have downloaded Tsmuxer and eac3to because I have heard yu can use these to strip away the audio you dont want and mux the audio track you do want with the movie. Can someone tell me step by step how to do this? Or point me to a great guide on doing this? I have looked and read but havent found exactly how to do it. Thanks

    @Ryu77

What's the difference between your MeGUI AVCHD/Bluray profiles and the ones that come with MeGUI?

And what's the difference between the AVDHD profile and the Bluray profile?

I convert down to 720p from 1080p source to fit on a dual layer dvd to play on my standalone bluray player...which profile should I be using...AVCHD or Bluray? (Been using Bluray) And which profile outputs better quality...yours or the one that comes with MeGUI?

The difference between his two profiles is the max buffer size and max bit rate. His new profile is geared more towards HD content on regular DVDs where the bitrate would lower than that on a Blu-ray. This also creates better stability amongst non Sony BD players that support AVCHD. Sony generally handles AVCHD content well regardless of the media or content.

If your encodes are 720p on a DVD you can use his latest AVCHD profile. Use his early profile for content on BD-Rs. Notice the lines highlighted in red.

    Here is his AVCHD profile.

    Here is his Blu-ray profile.

Ok...but which will yield better results (video quality) between the AVCHD profile in MeGUI or Ryu's?

And why is the level unrestricted/autoguess?

Doesn't the AVCHD spec or whatever have a max? Like 4.0 or 4.1?

Thank you for the previous explanation odin24. Very well laid out...

My profile has been tweaked to provide better quality output than the Blu-ray profiles included in MeGUI. Along with this comes slower encoding time. However, after lots of research and testing, I have found my profile settings provide the best compromise between quality and encoding time.

I could explain ways to further increase quality but I am talking 5% improvement with at least 50% more encoding time. I believe I have hit the sweet spot between quality and encoding speed. Please feel free to change things if your preferences desire.

In regards to the autoguess, this means that the x264 will tag the video file according to whatever settings you choose. Previously if you changed a setting that was outside a level boundary, an annoying message window would show up on the screen.

Max Blu-ray spec is 4.1. However, in the past those that used the x264 encoder tagged the media file as 4.1 even though it may have really only been a level 3.0. Autoguess will tag the file correctly for you.

Alcore can you tell me if Eac3toGUI or Eac3to moreGUI will work on a Vista system? Also I tried Eac3to and got the first [art of the batch file to run that tells me what the parts of the movie there is but to get it to demux I am having trouble. I added the lines like it showed but I dont know if I am putting them in the wrong spot. What and where should I be putting the syntax command to demux my M2TS file that I ripped to my HDD? If you could give an example that would be great Thanks again for helping me. I have tried looking in many different forums for the anwer but am having trouble locating my problem. If you need more info let me know. I am using Eac3to v2.85.

    @jr2647

    Hey...

First let me preface this response by saying I am far from the expert at this stuff...Ryu and Odin seem to be the most knowledgeable. That being said, and even though I'm pretty much a complete nub at this stuff, I should still be able to help you out since I've successfully transcoded quite a few blurays now to avchd format.

On to your question : I can't say for sure whether or not eac3to works with vista, but I see no evidence anywhere that it doesn't. I've read every single post on the eac3to thread up till about 2 weeks ago, and not one post had mentioned any problems specifically related to vista. I use XP and will not be switching over to vista anytime soon. I work on computers for a living and I pretty much hate vista. The only thing I can think of that would be causing an issue in vista would be user account control feature. But honestly that would be a big surprise to me if that was the issue since I highly doubt eac3to requires administrative privileges. But hey, try turning off UAC anyways and see if it helps. Go to the control panel. Go to the user settings, and uncheck the option that says something like "enable user account control." Reboot and try again.

Honestly though its probably something in your command line that's causing the issue. Would be helpful if you gave me an error or something from eac3to.

You asked for an example. I don't have a Bluray ripped to my hard drive right now so that's gonna have to wait for a couple of days (my desktop is currently busy encoding a few blurays.

I might be able to help a little though. Before I say the following, let me preface this : in my opinion, you should play around with the command you're throwing at eac3to and get it to work...if you understand how it works at a command line level you'll better understand what you're doing. Here's an example of an eac3to command line run against la confidential bluray rip :

    "C:\Program Files\VideoTools\EAC3To\eac3to.exe" "D:\BDRip\LA Confidential" 1) 1:"C:\BDRip\LAConfidential\1_1_chapter.txt" 2:"C:\BDRip\LAConfidential\1_2_video.mkv" 3:"C:\BDRip\LAConfidential\1_3_audio.ac3" 4:"C:\BDRip\LAConfidential\1_4_audio.ac3" -core 12:"C:\BDRip\LAConfidential\1_12_audio.ac3" 13:"C:\BDRip\LAConfidential\1_13_subtitle.sup" 28:"C:\BDRip\LAConfidential\1_28_subtitle.sup" -progressnumbers

Its not going to be easy for me to explain this in this format, expecially since I don't have a full bluray rip available to me right now to use as an example. Hopefully that example command line helps, but if not maybe I'll write up a simple tutorial myself. Not to say at all that the tutorials that are out there aren't sufficient, but perhaps I could explain it in a more layman terms, since I'm a nub too.

One other thing you could try (but like I said you really should learn to use eac3to first through the command line in my opinion) is the HdBrStreamExtractor program. Its a simple GUI for eac3to written by the author of MeGUI (he's going to eventually incorporate the program directly into MeGUI...but for now you can use it as a standalone program.) There's a link to the program on the first page of this thread but here it is anyways

Extract that program to the same folder you have eac3to extracted to. Run the program. In the input field, browse to the folder where you have your bluray extracted to (specifically the BDMV folder.) In the output folder, browse to a folder where you want your elementary chapter/audio/video/subtitles extracted to. I usually make a folder called Demuxed in the folder where my movie is. For example c:\BDRip\LAConfidential\Demuxed
Then hit the features button. Give it a minute or two and you'll see the features of the bluray movie listed in the upper box (labeled features.) Click on the feature you want (the main movie...figure it out by looking at the length of the movie that's listed and the resolution...the main movie is almost always 1080p.)

Anyways, after you click on the feature you want, you'll see the streams listed in the lower box (the one labeled steam(s). Put a check next to each stream you want to extract. Select the extension you want. For example for the video stream the extension can either be the raw file or .mkv. I recommend you use .mkv for the video stream. The chapter file is always .txt. The Subtitles are always .sup. The audio files though you need to choose. For example if the audio stream you want is a dts stream, you can choose .dts for extension and it'll just extract it without any conversion. If for example you choose .ac3 for that dts stream, eac3to will convert the dts stream to ac3. Its gets more complicated cause there are a few different audio steam types for high def content. Hopefully this gets you by. Re-read the tutorial that I posted earlier. Try again. You'll figure out what the issue is. If you still can't get it let me know, but tell me what kind of error you're getting from eac3to.

On that note : Do you think it would be helpful to you if I wrote up a more step by step tutorial aimed at new users? I can do that if you would think it would help you out, but it'll have to wait until the weekend.

@Ryu or Odin (or whomever can answer)

Started using your profile Ryu...slightly modified (like I set the level to 4.1 just for my peace of mind.)

Muxed streams with tsMuxer just like I have in the past. In the tsMuxer log I noticed a new line.

B-pyramid level 1 detected. Shift DTS to 2 frames

What exactly does that mean that it shifted DTS to 2 frames? Is that affecting the quality of my audio or video or is that just a sync thing?

Another question : When I'm playing my AVCHD movies on my panasonic bluray player, the movie seems to kinda stutter when the camera pans. Like if the actor is walking and the camera is moving following the character, the background seems to stutter...its not smooth motion. I thought maybe it was the way my tv was handling the 23.976 FPS but I don't see this issue when watching regular bluray movies. For that matter it doesn't do that when I watch HD-DVDs either. Only seems to be an issue with my transcoded avchd movies. Any ideas? PS...It doesn't seem to be an issue when I play that same transcoded video on my computer...just on the bluray player on my tv. Doesn't make sense to me why the video stutters...
