    Can anybody help?

I've just converted an MKV file to AVCHD via TSMuxer but when the movie is played on the PS3 the resolution changes to 480p and there is a thick green horizontal bar taking up a 3rd of the screen at the bottom.

I did convert the audio from DTS to AC3 and lower the bitrate of the audio however, but that couldn't be the problem surely???

Harrysc, this problem has been covered many times on this thread already.

The reason you are getting the green bar is because a Blu-ray/AVCHD disc must have standard HD resolutions (1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080). If you attempt to author a disc with a lower resolution, you will get a green bar filling in the rest of the lines.

    You have two options...

    1) Output M2TS media file instead. Just be aware that you can not use DTS audio when exporting M2TS media files.

    2) Re-encode the video stream and add the black borders to fill in the rest of the lines so you can output Blu-ray disc structure with tsMuxeR.

What's the easiest way of adding boarders? And when re-encoding to add these boarders, do you get a loss of visual quality in doing so?

    Thanks.

Try keeping it in the m2ts container.

Edit: I just started a straight BD rip with VC-1 codec in the m2ts container with MeGUI/AviSynth, no problems. If you get the problem again please post here so we can help. Copy/paste from the Log tab in MeGUI.

Sorry i didn't make myself clear.I have this problem with the raw video file after i have used tsMuxeR to split the video & sound.I'm trying to find a way to load the video into Megui so i can encode the video only.

If you load the complete m2ts file (video & audio) it will encode just the video.

You need to select RAWAVC, then tsMuxeR will perform the Blu-Ray out put conversion for you.

However, your encoded video should still have the h264 codec which still can be used.

Use a program called YAMB to extract the raw h264 file. If you cannot figure that out or if you have problems use mkvmerge... which does take mp4 files and remux your mp4 to mkv... then tsMuxeR will load your mkv.

Great guide Ryu! Odin's post have also been very helpful.

I had a question about what device/software are people using to playback these encoded BD discs? I have an intel quad core PC and am not able to play these back in PowerDVD 7.3 without slight stutters. Is the codecs in PowerDVD 7.3 not able to decode these smoothly? I'm using Ryu's Bluray profile.

It's smooth when I output to .TS file and play back with Classic Media Player.

    Thanks in advance!

M2TS is for PS3 and Blu-Ray compatibility, however I use m2ts and media player classic without problems. I also have FFDShow decoding and CCCP codec pack.

Do you playback on the PS3 or BD player or just your PC? If it's just your PC you do not need to recode.

    I need a little help!

I'm following this procedure to make an AVCHD disc:

    1. Rip Blu-ray to HD
    2. Using tsMuxer select desire streams (video, audio, subtitles) to m2ts file.
    3. re-encode to 1280X720 mkv with Ripboot264
    4. Remux this mkv video with original audio and subtitles (from original m2ts) to blu-ray using tsMuxer.
    5. Burn to disc with nero burning rom

    The result is great, BUT:

-Subtitles are displayed 3 times (ghosting image) in nero show time or
-not subtitles at all when I play the disc in the PS3

Is the problem related to the original resolution of the subtitles?

    thanks!

See my comments above. If you are using dual layer DVDs I highly recommend keeping the resolution 1920x1080p. Playback on the PS3 is fine.

    Thanks odin24!

Yes, I'm using the .PGS stream that was with the original Blu-Ray movie, but when I play in nero showtime I do it from the blu-ray folder created by tsMuxer in my computer.
I thought SUPread was useful if you want subtitles from a m2ts file only.

YES, I used the triangle button and subtitle option in the PS3, NO LUCK.

ANY other idea? I been looking for an answer for days, but in every forum or guide that I found, they skip this subject. They tell you how to do everything EXCEPT what happen with subtitles when you recode to a diferent resolution to create an AVCHD.

Do you think that in a double layer dvd, the capacity would be enough to keep a reasonable bitrate at 1080p? have you obtained good results?

    Thanks Again

That's all I do, 1080p & DL DVDs. With a 2 hour movie I get a variable bit rate of approx 5-8MB/s with spikes of 15MB/s. I also always use Ryu77's MeGUI/Blu-Ray profile.

I have used subs in a 720p movie, but you need to use srt format so you can change the font size with tsMuxeR. Also, subs are only compatible with the PS3 if it is in the Blu-Ray format, m2ts alone they are not.

Here's two useful links, one is a site dedicated to uploading subtitles for all kinds of languages from all sorts of sources. If you are using BD rips make sure you DL subs @ 23.976fps.

    http://subscene.com/search.aspx

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ywt2wysnzb1

This one is a must if you use subs in your movies. It's called AVCHD-ME. With this you can trick your PS3 into thinking a USB stick is a AVCHD DVD. Since tsMuxeR lets you trim a movie I usually make a 5 minute sample to see if my srt subs are the right size and aligned properly. Here's what you need to do.

    1. Make your Blu-Ray structured files with tsMuxeR (BDMV & Certificate)

    2. Make a folder called AVCHD, place the BDMV and Certificate folders in the AVCHD folder. Also place the AVCHD-ME program in that folder as well and run it, it literally takes second. When finished delete the file.

    3. Transfer your AVCHD file, with the BDMV and Certificate files inside to the USB stick. Go to your PS3, load the USB stick from the Video section in the XMB... load it by pressing X on the USB icon, the X on the AVCHD file. (not triangle, then copy).

Either way, either subtitle format should work. The only problem with the PGS stream is you cannot change the font size because it is a image and not text... however you can change the position on the screen. Both pf these functions are done is tsMuxeR.

Use tsMuxeR. Load the DTS-HD track, make sure the "extract DTS core..." checkbox is checked, select "Demux" then start demuxing
