anydvd and clone, nothing works better, faster or easier, of all the movies I have thrown at it there was nothing it couldnt handle, about 500, only one that would not take, the new release of Reservoir Dogs [15th Anniversary edition], and no there was nothing wrong with the disc, just for some reason clone and anydvd didnt want to finish it. I even tried it on two other copy programs, same thing.
OK, I'm almost a Total Newb, 'tho I have backed up up 2 or 3 DVDs before. I don't quite remember how, though... I know I used DVDShrink and Nero. So now this time I used these tools: -DVD Decrypter -RipIt4Me -FixVTS -DVD Shrink -Nero (obviously for DVD Shrink to work) Just like it says here. I thought I had a decent grasp of the RipIt4Me Guide. One thing is, I used its Wizard mode instead of 1-Click mode. I guess I must have missed something in the shrink process, though, because when I thought I was all set and went to burn with Nero (Shrink didn't call Nero), the files were around 8 gigs instead of 4. I still have the folder full of files, VOBS, BUPS, etc. Should I just wipe them and start over with one-click, or do something with Shrink, or what?
@SnKlastic Make sure you have DVD shrink setup to use Nero as the burning program. Also make sure you have not selected DVD9 disc in DVD Shrink for the output size. There is an option for DVD Shrink that will let you choose DVD5/DVD9/CUSTOM make sure it is set to DVD5 or a CUSTOM setting like 4360. Also some other advice for a newbie. Next time start a new thread if you are having problems backing up a DVD. Do not try to hijack another thread. Below is a link to the rules take a look at them so you do not find yourself in some trouble by breaking any. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487
OK, thanks, will give that a try. Lar, I thot the thread was "EASIEST DVD backup method" - which I was responding to, not at all thinking about hijacking, but as a n00b I dunno...
Well in a way this was supposed to be an easy guide for people to follow. I guess in a way you where just replying that you followed the guide and it didn't work. Even tho you did not Hijack the thread I still think it would have been better for you to start another thread. That way you would get more help instead of being deep into a topic thread like this. This really isn't the best guide to use. If you still have trouble let me know and ill dig up some other guides that probably would help you out more.
Thanks for the help so far. Getting back to my original question, does this method only apply to starting all over now, or can I apply this to the existing folder of files? Or should I ask this in another forum/thread?
yes you can apply this to the existing folder on your harddrive just run it though dvd shirk at the target size you want
All this bickering! Wow! I may as well join the fray!! I use AnyDVD and 1click dvd copy. It's nice and simple, just what I like. I will say that dvd decrypter is a very nice program. I have some familiarity with it, and like it. I think that the guides are a great tool, not to mention a great reference source when you run into trouble! This site is for those that don't know to learn, those that know to teach and learn too. I personally love to use the guides as a reference when I am looking at other programs to improve my productivity. They provide me with a way to judge how well I will be able to interact with the software. To those that teach, I thank you for the time you spend doing so. Keep up the good work folks...you are appreciated!!
@@SnKlastic aabbccdd answered your question. All you have to do is load the folder into DVD Shrink and as aabbccdd said choose the proper output size DVD5 or custom. There is no need to rip the DVD to the harddrive and starting over.
Thanks all, it worked. Sorry for the delay in getting back. Should it DVD Shrink/Nero over 6 hours to do this one backup of King Kong?
SnKlastic , NO it shouldn't take over 20 mins. or so check your drives/burners and make sure there in DMA mode and NOT in PIO mode you can fix that in device manager or use this guide http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
OK, thanks. I read that page thoroughly. Both channels were set to PIO-only. I uninstalled both drivers and rebooted. The expected new hardware alerts came up. Then I checked again. Primary/Device 1 still showed PIO-only, so I set it to DMA-if-available, then uninstalled the driver, rebooted. Same result. Now, after about 6 rounds of this, INLCUDING going to DVD/CD drives and uninstalling those drivers too for the last 4 rounds, it's still IDE/Atapi Primary/Device 1 PIO-only. One unexpected result also has occured. I've been having trouble with my CD burner drive. My Computer has been showing 3 opticals sometimes, sometimes 4 or 5, and 2 (the correct number) sometimes: the DVD burner (always), a spurious non-existent SCSI CD drive sometimes, my real CD sometimes, and seeming dupes of the real CD sometimes. There's a long-ish thread about it I started here at Google Groups: http://tinyurl.com/ylf97r So now, after all these uninstalls, My Computer is showing ONLY the DVD!
I have to go along with Connolly on this one, but I have noticed that some of the newbies are been very scathing.
