I think I'm going to get a bicycle because I could really use the exercise but if I do, I'm going to get one of those electric ones so I don't have to pedal it.

Actually, I walk six to ten miles a day which keeps my legs and lower back from hurting as much but it doesn't do anything for my neck which is where most of my problems are.

gerry, turning your head around looking at all the pretty girls walk by might help the neck.

gerry to get any benefit you need to get your heart rate up to about 115 to 120 for 30 to 40 mins. at least three times a week

On the stepper my heart rate goes over 140, but if your fat burning it needs to be lower. My fat burning heart rate was worked out between 95 and 120. 95? I do that walking up the stairs.

You can buy heart rate monitors but you have to know the right rate for what your doing (and yourself). If you go over 200 its probably a bit high as you'll have cacked it.

Loco: all over mate. If you look the threads gone...ah well, all good things...

Altercuno, heart rate levels depend on your age to someone at 50 years old or older defiantly doesn't want it at 200

@aabbccdd...Because of old spinal cord injuries, I'm limited as to what I can do. I can't run or use the majority of gym equipment because of the injuries and spinal fusions in my neck and lower back. I'm going to get one of those eliptical things; I tried one of them and they don't put any strain on the lower back but I need to figure out a way to strengthen the muscles in the lower back and neck but I need to be very careful. I'm thinking of asking my doctor to send me to a sports medicine doctor and rehab place just for a little bit so that I can learn some methods to do this without hurting myself ... I have a ton of restrictions so it makes me nervous.

w00t w00t, I just changed sites with work. I used to be at an airport ALL the damn time and the way my shifts were arranged I really didn't have time for anything, let alone training. About the best I could do was ride to work....wich wasn't really that far away. Anyways, I have finally been promoted and moved onto another site which has a gym. I checked it out today and it looks pretty nice imo. Had a look at the login book and nobody has used it since the 24th of last month.... Sooooo, looks like for $20 a year, a co-worker and I have an entire gym basicly to ourselves.
Going to start training again everyday after work. I am so stoked!
