to go even further... add the sour cream like Mr. Loco said and toast your bread, cover with "mixture" and the military calls it SOS!! or you could call it Chip Beef on Toast. ;)

Just had a late supper paid for me by the account I work. They ordered from this one greek owned restaraunt.

    6oz sirloin strip (cooked medium)

baked potato (cheese butter sour cream)

    2 freshly made buttered rolls

    mixed salad with italian dressing

Pics weren't possible as I ate everything in site....and was too hungry to pull out my mobile and snap a picture.

Oh yeah!! That place uses some good greek spices...cooked over an open flame. Nice and tender. Can't beat that. Where I work at has a special menu from the restaraunt. Get a smaller cuts of meat than whats on the menu.

I'm glad someone else knows about s#%$ on a shingle (SOS) and the sarcasm of cheap and easy military food in the good eats thread next to surf and turf isnt totally lost...

Those K rations were not that bad. We used them for mountain climbing in Korea 72. The MREs they use now taste awful. Had some of them after Katrina.

what ever you call it, $hit on a shingle-it still tastes bad.

Only thing we ever called MRE's were Meals Ready to Explode. The old ones were horrible, and believe it not, they have actually gotten better....but not by much!!

    It's like 0 X 0 = 0, SOS better, is still/= SOS

Got all my outside chores done. Mowed grass, got my LPG gas cooking stove/fish fryer top outside setup, plenty propane, coleman lantern and camp stove if I need it. And 60 year old DC generator that will do fans, lights and with an ac converter, small TV. We'll goeat Mexican around the corner tonight and stay up waiting for Gustav all night. Let the party get hardy and the liquor quicker! Gonna be hot when the power goes. We won't flood here tho. :)

    @garmoon

Take care. Hopefully this thing won't be that bad for y'all.

iluvendo.. nice meat and tator dinner. ;)

I should have taken a pic of the meal my wife just fixed!! I know, I know, she doesn't normally cook but she found an easy recipe (hope she doesn't read this...lol) and it was great!

White rice - 5 minute (sorry endo but NO rice maker here!!!)
Chicken (boneless breast) in mushroom gravy sauce
corn - heated with butter and seasonings
asparagus - canned but the kiddies like it
peaches - canned in heavy syrup (we all like it...lol)

IT was good and I'm stuffed.. time for a nap... lol.

May God be with you all down near there. You guys take care, and be safe.

I wasn't feeling real frisky for cooking last night.

Hamburger helper (cheesy lasagna) and mashed potatoes with some Texas Toast. Meh...it filled the void. :)

One of my kids favorites (mine too its so easy...)is Hamburg helper stroganoff flavor, add a can of peas to the mix when it starts to boil and it looks like some actual thought and effort was put into the meal!

In my bachelor days there was a lot of hamburger helper and pizza rolls devoured. It's quick, easy, and as long as you get the hamburger helper brand, they are actually pretty tasty. The el-cheapo ones are not very good though, at least not that i've seen.

I'll take Hamburger Helper over Chef Boyardee (sp?) any day.
