Ok, just got my copy today. Gonna try Anydvd 6.4.9.0, with DVD Decrypter, VOB Blanker, then DVD Shrink. Wish me luck! After reading the previous threads, I am crossing my fingers!! :)

    Mr Pieman,

are you telling us that a rash of program failures as of late may be due to Windows Xp service pack 3 updates ? Interesting.

Hi Bryston,....it seemed a real coincidence with my set up.I noticed it first with nero (nero 6. 6016 revision)It wouldnt open properly, and unable to load audio tracks to burn to cd.Diskeeper wouldnt load and had a mmc error.IE was slower too.So off it came, and all is well.I took it off my laptop too, but suffered a seperate problem.Seven microsoft updates wont install, and still refuse to do so.Maybe a reinstall will sort it, but havent got round to that yet cos i cant prise it from my daughters grasp!. But this is just my personal experience..i dont have a lot of faith in MS, and am considering the drastic step of defecting to mac.

Hey pieman; i don't ever have Windows problems, i think a big part of this is because i deliberately don't/won't allow ANY MS Updates near any of my machines. They're all SP2 only, and have had NO updates applied since whenever SP2 was released. I use AVG 8.0 (free) and have sensible browsing habits (which includes never using Internet Explorer!) and keep all non-MS programs updated. The only two times that MS Updates were (accidentically) allowed on two different machines, those two machines were unstable and needing wiping :)
In years gone by i had no problems updating MS stuff left right and centre, including service packs, it's automatic updates/hotifixes/endless security fixes i don't want on my kit.
On linux boxes i happily update anything and everything that flags up as needing updating, i just don't want the mess that can come with MS auto updates.

edit- apologies for my rant on MS auto updates - i know they do work fine for a lot of people, they just haven't for me. Most of the time i subscribe to the idea of "if it doesn't need fixing, don't break it" :)

    In order of preference -

    1. Opera
    2. Firefox
    3. various linux browsers (whatever happens to be installed on a particular linux box)
    4. NOT Internet Explorer

    :)

Like your #1 preference there Creaky. After using opera mini for soo many years on my mobile, I finally switched to using opera on my desktop and laptop.
