I don't mean any offence by this but are you sure it's a Null Modem Cable with the following connections:

    Connector 1.....Connector 2.....Function
    2.......................3....................Rx Tx
    3.......................2....................Tx Rx
    5.......................5....................Signal ground

Some shops sell a straight cable as a Null Modem one.

Other than this make sure you have the very latest drivers for the USB lead. Many cheaper ones do not come with the correct drivers and use a generic one - which does not work.

Latest firmware 1.1a 230708 is in Eamos. This has mapped the red button on the remote to select alternate audio stream as per all other previous Max models.

Cannot believe that I have not even got my boxes yet and there is new firmware, I was a bit slow on the uptake..:)

Anyway, have 2 of these bueties coming(both 160 drives) and I cannot wait to try my new equipment.

Look forward to giving my feedback as well.

Pete you may have a problem using 160 IDE drives I would recommend 120 at the maximum.

    Hi,
I have 'Profilic USB to Serial Comm port' and connect this thru the one i received '9 pin' wire with my box i had no '9 pin' jack in my laptop so had to buy usb to serial comm port, i installed the drivers for usb to serial comm port, it does recognise it as say it's installed on 'com 4' then i connect the box, power it on and click on download which keeps showing 'com 4' that's it mean there is no response from the box. I have 'Eurovox EX 5000 PVR' plz help.

Heres how to get it to work once your cables are connected and you have installed the usb to rs232 cable drivers

    1. Go to the Start Menu
    2. Right click on "My Computer"
    3. Select "Properties"
    4. Click on the "Hardware" tab
    5. Click on "Device Manager"
    6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
    7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your USB adapter is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.) click the + buttons to reveal all!
"Look for one saying something like USB-SERIAL CH340" and right click it. "Select properties".
    8. Select the "port settings tab".
    9. Go to "advanced".
10.Select box saying "COM PORT Number" and change value to 1 click ok
    11. "Re boot pc"
    12. You should be able to transfer data once the correct port is selected.

If you have been to eamos - eko.4shared and got the latest firmware v1.1a is the latest, then connect your ex5000 to the cable, run prog and press the top large "download" button and this will install this.
Remember you need to connect your usb/232 lead to the null modem cable, then into the box.
Switch box on! no need to be connected to cable-ariel.
display on the front of box will say summat like dnld (Download)
once the prog has done its stuff remove null modem lead then reconnect to tv.
    Good luck!

    Hi Topdj,
I am very thankful for your generous support. My com port is sorted as the drivers for my usb serial were old and i had to reinstall them. I did everything like you guided me through, thanks alot.
Just one more thing, few of the channels aren't very clear as they flicker and look like they aren't getting good signals plz help regarding this.
    regards and thanx again.

Glad you eventually got sorted Sham.

I have similar probs at my dads house with weak signal. I have the cable guy coming round this weekend to try to sort this out.(Lucky i got a mate who works 4 em)
If you have a weak signal then it could be a major prob as you would have to get the cc to sort it!
Only one other poss thing is to get a booster as a last resort.
But first check all your connections and try plugging your pvr in at the main input b4 any splitters.
Maybe someone else may have a suggestion or be able to recommend a suitable signal booster for cable.

I got a Eurovox PVR, i have a few querys about recording

1, While i was recording a movie on S*y Premiere i was unable to watch BBC2, in fact i only could choose from about 5 channels. I was under the impression i could record on one channel and view any other channel....or is it just me.

2, Notting major but the sound had a slight delay on something i recorded on eurosport(i have only recored about 5 times since i got it and this was the onlt one that dah this problem)

3, You cant record and watch something you have already recorded( again no big deal, but it would be nice to be able to do this)

4, where can i see the list of item i have setup to record if i change my mind and cancel them before they start.

    Hi Topdj,
thanx for your cooperation. I do have all the channels coming in but only few channels seem to get stuck so i can't really say what's the problem is could be signal or something else but anyway i will see. Have you got any idea how to catch more channels such as 'zee cinema' and 'star movies' or 'filmflex'.
    regards

i think when your recording you can only watch another channel which is on the same tp as the channel your recording, this is why you can only view the 5 or 6 channels you were describing, down to the fact that it only has 1 tuner so ive read, ridiculous really, just my opinion but anyone changing their box to get a pvr is better off keeping the one they have and buying a dvd recorder instead, just my opinion though

you can get a list of frequencies here
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/531363
do a manual scan on the frequncy and that should sort it out

Well you would have to setup boths units to record at the same time...at least its just the once...and you can record from the epg so its a bit better that a DVD-recorder and eurovox.... i sold my old one for 100 quid and got the PVR one for 170( i already had a spare HardDrive) so it's not too bad.
