    At full load, the X1900XT consumes about 12A on the 12V rail. The 25A figure is the recommended total, since my CPU probably consumes around 15A factoring in the efficiency of the VRMs. That's 27A right there, before you factor in the hard disks (another 3A to be safe), CD-ROM drive (another 1.5A), fans (another 1A), memory and chipset power usage (4A for high end gear) - all in all for my system I'm probably looking at maybe 37 to 38A. Not a problem since my PSU can put out 62A on the 12V rail, but nonetheless it demonstrates why power supply requirements are set far higher than what the card uses.

    For core 2 Duos and the like I recommend the GA-965P-DS3 from gigabyte. The P5W DH Deluxe is just as good though, but probably more expensive.

    sammorris..Thanks for the insight
    I guess I better look for another PSU..The Enermax 22amp won't be sufficient power for the card,along with 2 Samsung 500 Gig HDD,1 Liteon LH20 DVDRW.
    ASUS Crosshair MB with AMD Dual-Core 6000+..2Gig Mem..3 Fans
    Any Suggestions ? I'm kinda lookin at these
    What do U think of that 39 or 49amp mentioned earlier..looked for the link to newegg,but can't find it.
    Also..Ultra XVS Modular 700W ATX Power Supply 40amp..I think I'D be partial to this one,Cables are a little impressive,enough wattage, & amps
    http://www.cheapguys.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=127
    Now that is if the Enermax isn't going to cut the mustard

    22A is a bit low on the +12V rail. I personally recommend the Corsair HX 520W, I don't know how it compares to the XVS cost-wise, but it's very quiet (not many Ultra power supplies are).

    sammorris..Again Thanks for the reply..I know amps are important..
    But just how important is the wattage 520 U recomend against 700's
    If memory serves me I think if U strain the wattage,it could start overheating a bit.Now this is with heavy equipment that I was familiar with,long time back 60's 70's
    The only real thing I know about wattage is that more burns more electric,as with light bulbs

    here's a better choice as far as modular p/s's go. same series as sam mentioned but at 620 watts. I personally use one of these.

    Mort81..Thanks
    I just went to Newegg & Corsair HX 520W
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001
    THIS ONLY HAS 3 12V 18amp lines
    I assume when rails are mentioned that means the # of lines
    Also the one U recommend only has 3 12v 18amp lines
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/PDF/373110.pdf
    Corsair HX Series CMPSU-620HX 620W Power
    So I don't quite grasp what all of U guys mean,the PSU's that U rec are 18amps per 12v x3 lines,mine is 12v 22amp x2 it says 432watts(36A)
    incidentally Zipzoomfly is a good place to shop

    dreamer2..My 2cents would be to get 2 500 gig Harddrive for about 20 bucks more rather then 1 750 for 209.oo

    Nice Choices...You will not regret buying that P/S...best investment you will make...

    There are some great buys on Cooler Master Cases at SVC...
    COOLER MASTER RC-632-SSN1-GP SILVER MYSTIQUE 632 ALUMINUM MID TOWER ATX CASE $69 after($30 MAIL-IN REBATE EXPIRES 9/31/07)
    http://www.svc.com/rc-632-ssn1-gp.html

    Or this case...I like it better then the Antec 900...In my opinion it is quieter with better cooling principles...the 250mm side fan is...Dead Quiet...while pushing close to 90cfm...Straight onto M/B and Video Card...Plus...I like the Stealth Drive Bays...
    Enermax ECA3052-B Chakra Mid Tower Case (Black) Retail $69 ***Free Shipping***
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=270413

    If you can afford the extra cash...go with the 8800GTS 640MB Card instead...worth the extra money for the extra memory...you will want the extra memory for the new games coming out...You will see a noticeable difference over the 320MB version...

    I would go with the GA-965P-DS3 rev3 board that you listed...

    I would suggest going with a 250MB or 320MB Seagate HD for O/S...and a 500GB for storage...will save you money and it is much more Convenient and Safer to have O/S separate from your Documents and Storage...Just swap H/D drives from computer...to computer...with out having to transfer across H/D...

    Definitely Go with the E6750 CPU...over the E6600...It helps if you list the part by name...then the link...that way we do not have to go to link to see what item you selected...

    Thank U..Mort81..Now I have a better perspective on PSU Ampers..So Wattage is not that important 400,500,600,700 and so on
    Now I'm relieved,I've got 22x2=44amp
    I'm guessing 3..18's is better then 2..22's as far as Distribution of power to individual components

    rick,
    L@@K at this link. Lp531 already gave us a link but what the heck I'll do it again. :) same p/s at newegg that way you can look at specs and such...sometimes ZZF fails in a complete description I think. :D

    good luck with your choices.... :p

    @rick
    Its not that the wattage numbers are not important...Its that they can be manipulated...Most Manufacturers Over Report Wattage...

    PC Power & Cooling is famous for its accurate reporting...to Under Reporting of Wattage...and for Producing Only Single Rail P/S...There 750 Quad (The Quad is for 4 PCI-E Connectors) is in actuality...closer to 830 watts...

    As for Mutiple Rails...For the most part...The Fewer the Rails the Better...A Single Rail is the most Ideal...On Multiple Rail P/S...there is unused Amperage on each rail...So again they are Over Reporting the Wattage and Amperage...

    I recently saw a 1,000 watt P/S...that was touting (6) 15amp Rails like that was a Good Thing...

    @greensman
    ZZF web site is not the Best...but they are a wonderful supplier...Newegg by far has the easiest site to use...with good Descriptions...and plenty of Pictures of the Items..:)

    @dreamer2
    You should be able to pick up a 640MB for Low to Mid $300's...the 320MB is fine for almost every game right now...but in the future you will want more...and regret not spending the little extra right now...

    It is always cheapest to buy once...not twice...

    greensman..Thanks I lost it a while back.Gonna bookmark it this time
    But is a single rail better then a triple.As things kick in U have surges.My thought is triple will recover faster for surges ! Got any thoughts this way...Sorry to be such a pain,but really got no choice,just to much experience here to draw on.Well ya know that old sayin EXP is the best Teacher.I've already gone through 2 PSU's in a YR..I raised all kinds of hell at the Tech.He put in a tonka toy 350-16amp.The last one took a board with it,and it ended up costin me an extra 150bucks for a new MB.So I bought the PSU & had him put it in.Now I'M Building my own,and I want to make sure I understand most of the tech talk...Believe,you,me..I'm learnin a lot.Not just here.but on hands experience as well...Again though I want to thank everybody who Post here..What an asset !!

    Lp531..Thanks ..That clears up a lot for me.3 rails OK,2 rails better,1 rail is best..Fewer is better.So stick with at least 550watt or better,with the proper amper specs,and quality name brand.GETTING more & more ease of mind at my end..Running out of questions on my end.

    rick5446,

    Lp531 is right.One big single rail is better than 2/3/6/57 or whatever little one's!!
