there is a video on youtube of someone getting their quad to 3GHz, but I am sure they had better cooling (not water cooling)

yeah, 3.0ghz is probably obtainable with a good cpu hsf but about the highest you can get out of a Q6600 is 3.4ghz and that's on water. probably a little more using phase change cooling, but now you're going to the extreme.

I'd agree, I'd say 3.0-3.1 is about the limit for a Quad on a powerful heatsink like a Tuniq tower, Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, Scythe Ninja or Zalman CNPS9700. 3.4 would be the water cooling only realm. I hear people have great difficulty getting quads into the second half of 3Ghz.

I'm doing it so maybe I can earn a hundred or so and put it towards my new PC. I like building them, it's fun. Plus my case is kinda gay, and I want to get an Antec 900.

Just don't turn up to any LAN parties with them, or you'll be just like everyone else. Seriously, it's a joke how many people have that case.
The Twelve hundred tickles my fancy, but I like my current case so much I doubt I'll ever change it.

I don't go to LAN parties. lol, amongst all my friends I have the best setup for gaming. So they all come over to my place. Usually we just system link and play xbox 360, because I have two, one 65 and one 55 inch, LCD TVs, and we just hook em up to each other and have Halo sessions lol.

In fact I'm gonna do that today.

I sincerely hope you have an elite 360. Interlacing on those TVs would suck badly. Or are they not even 1080 resolution? I'm not even going to contemplate that possibility.

I have an Elite, and one of my friends is bringing over his 360, which has a HDMI port. Both my TVs are 1080p I believe.

    hey

finally got xp activated (had to find the key to my old dead emachine I used for my XP Cert classes and then let a family member borrow till it died)

Where do I start with the overclocking? I'm totally new to this so any info tossed my way is much appreciated.

The new build has been up and running for a week now, showing idle temps of 13c on the cpu and system temp of 41c.

    nighters,

you need to post a list of all the hardware you have. a link directly to each thing would be very helpful. it's been a while since you were getting a list togather and none of us know for certain what all you ended up with.

I checked out the 1200, but I think I still like how the 900 looks better.

Yeah I do, my media server is in it. That's a bargain 7600GT, buy some and sell them on later, the PCIe 7600GT is discontinued I think.

Points 1 & 3. Because the hard disk drive is 250,000,000,000 bytes in size, that is 250 Gigabytes. Windows, however, reads binary Gigabytes, or Gibibytes, consequently, 7.37% of the drive's capacity is lost, making the drive 232.8GB in size. for the 100GB drive, that becomes around 93GB, additional loss may be caused by FAT32.

Point 2: That PC does not have the latest windows service packs on it, or didn't when the hard disk was installed. To get the extra space, you can make an extra partition in disk management, but only if you have Service pack 1 or 2 installed. You will, however only gain another 20GB, not the full 33, for the same reason as points 1 & 3.
