I think the stuff Arctic Cooling uses is better than AS5.

aszbaz: Have you tried running the game on the same PC before? Intel integrated graphics are incredibly poor, and as a result many modern games won't run on them. If it did run on the PC, but only on XP, then perhaps Vista is just enough to tip the GPU over the edge, but suffice to say you shouldn't be trying to play any games on Intel graphics, they just aren't powerful enough. As for the dead hard drive, you could try flashing the firmware on it, but don't let the same happen again. If you get a power cut through a firmware flash it's game over.

OCZ RAM PC6400 DDR2 $40 after MIR with promo code (EMC1109SYME01)

I had to post this. I know that OCZ Ram sometimes conflicts with some mobos but for this price it's worth the effort to see if it'll work with your mobo.

cincyrob you might look at this for your new build. :)

    .....gm

edit to add promo code... ;)

Now, if you guys have any suggestions on how to lower that price, id be happy to listen. i chose the cpu b/c im not going to oc at all. Also, the case comes with a 120mm in front, an 80mm on side, and optional 4 80mm in front, and a 120mm on back. which setup would be best? Im not sure if im allowed to use OEM Vista either, as this would technically be a new computer, and oem software would cut costs a good deal. please tell me everything i listed workes together, lol.

Well the first thing to change would be the AMD processor. No need for those anymore, get a Core 2 Duo and overclock the hell out of it. I don't know why you wouldn't overclock.

Also get some decent RAM. If you check the post before yours, I have posted VERY good, and VERY high quality RAM(which by the way is 2GB instead of 1) for the same price as the one you are buying.

EDIT: Also with the exception of my graphics card my computer is much more powerful, and it only cost me 600 to build. Add in all the extras you want and it still wouldn't have cost more than 1100. If you want to cut costs don't pay for the OS ;)

well im kinda afraid that if i start messing around with ocing ill break something. i have horrible luck with this stuff. i shattered the screen on my notebook like 2 days ago...

i tried to open that link a while ago but i cant view anything on newegg.com, the text is massive and changing my settings doesnt have any effect.

this is gonna be a straight gaming pc btw.

It works fine for me. Try checking from another PC. Anyway you can't really go wrong overclocking with a Core 2 Duo. If you mess up the computer will just restart with normal settings and you can try again! Trust me it's really easy, and you wont break anything.

Well i might have to consider going intel then. Reason i went amd to start with is for as long as i can remember amd has been better for gaming. can you recommend a nice case? i noticed after shopping around tha the one i found is like twice what some other nice ones are.

I would recommend an intel E6750 cpu w/ a P35 mobo (asus or gigabyte), and a monitor made by someone other than acer.

acer lcds no good? its a great price for its size.

If you can find a 22" for that price id be surprised, though i did find a 19" on craigslist for 125 bucks, im not going to buy used...

Exactly, a 'good price', i.e. cheap, and all too often not so cheerful. For the 22" widescreen range, get a Samsung 226BW.

Yeah my rig is a BIT dated now. A Gigabyte board with a P35 chipset and a e6750 should be in order. BTW where did you find a 7900 GTX for 90 bucks?!

    Ok lets see

    E6400- 2.13 Ghz, 2MB L2 cache, 1066 MHZ FSB, less overclocking potential
E6750- 2.66 Ghz, 4MB L2 Cache, 1333 MHZ FSB, Costs 10 dollars less, newer revision, runs cooler, overclocks better.

I think I've made my point.

EDIT: Also I still don't get how you found the video card I have for 90 bucks! That's a steal!

if still contemplating an E6400, at least go with an E6420 instead. 4M L2 cache vs 2M L2 cache.
