Well that scares me. lol. I have the SATA cables bent and stuffed so as to allow more air flow and cable management in my new rig as well as my AMD rig. linky to pic. I can take a pic of my AMD rig too if you like but it's about the same. ;)

btw Russ when I get that gfx card in I'm gonna switch my extra HDD's from the Gigabyte controller to the Intel controller. It's a PIA to deal with the GB controller if you ask me. ;)

Couldn't say myself, I haven't owned a 32MB Cache drive. My 16MB cache drives are faster than my 8MB versions, but then the 16s are two years newer, so that may be the reason, not just the cache, and even then the difference is about 10%. The drive you've chosen is out of stock though, so you'll have to pick something else anyway. I wouldn't lose sleep over not having a 32MB Cache, but if it's not much more money, why not go for it?

i just droped down to the 250gb instead of the 500gb. i dont want that big of a HDD for my OS anyway. so in a few months i will get the 500gb or a 750gb

the reasoning on my change other than the OS, is Russ convinced me to go with that GPU he linked me to.lmao

plus i changed the MOBO to==GA-EP35-DS3R only $126.99 instead of $159.

but now my CPU is out of stock. which might be a blessing seeing they raised the price $20 from when i first put it on my list. i think microcenter has it still for the $219 instead of $239 at the EGG.

    @Mort81
you wouldnt take a mans first build would ya????lol

thanks for the compliments guys. just hope it works once i get it all together..lol

    Doug,
I did a quick search and found the Core 2 Quad 6600 and ASUS P5N32-SLi for about £270 including VAT. The deal you're looking at is £250 with shipping but does that include VAT?? I don't know how it works in the UK, but if you buy stuff in the same state in the US you have to pay sales tax. ;)

PLUS if you buy from a "trusted" vendor you get warranties and such. something to think about. ;)

    dougal79,
I can tell you this much! Avoid the no name MB! It's a piece of junk! Any MB that has only two memory slots is a real cheepie! The one with the Asus MB is the better of the two by far!

Mystery solved! It's a cheap $50 BioStar MB!

I don't even use something that cheap for business machines that aren't overclocked. You would be very disappointed with that one!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

Russ, while we are on the AMD subject, check this out. The 9600 Black Edition can't beat the Q6600(stock speed) while the AMD is at 2.7 Ghz(max overclock). The Q6600 can manage a 3.6Ghz overclock easily though...

ok thanks for the feedback guys ;)

Think ill go with the Quad Q6600 & ASUS P5N32-E SLI.
Ill also get the ram & hard drive sammorris suggested.
Then in a month or 2 ill get the psu greensman suggested,
along with everything else i'll need.

Its about time i upgraded to a decent pc :D

@ no mate, they charge something like 17.5% vat.
Think ill get them seperately from scan instead.

    Cheers again

What kind of PSU do you have? I wouldn't risk good parts on a not so good PSU.

    @abuzar1

Im not too sure, i'll have to check.
Its either 400w or 450w & think its unbranded.
But ill wait till i get a good PSU before i put it all together.

    cincyrob,
Hey man you better get hopping. There's almost no e8400s available anywhere.
    http://www.ncixus.com/products/27784/BX80570E8400/Intel/

Best I could come up with searching the net! Intel doesn't seem to be able to make enough as a lot of places say not available from the manufacturer at the present time. I confirmed they have 10 at one location and >10 at another!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

The VX-550 is nice, but the HX-520 is better as it is modular.

Just found out about the E8200 - same specs as the E6750 but has 6mb of level 2 Cache instead of 4. If I can find one actually available I might get that instead - its been slightly cheaper on sites that have priced it.

I found this thanks to sammy. NICE link sam. ;) link to HX-520 vs. VX550 (conclusion)

You can read the entire test but the conclusion does it justice. ;) Like they said either p/s is good it basically depends on what you want. ;)
