The 6750 would work out to be about $230 at current rates, and the 8400 if you could find one would be about $250 :( Very depressing when your pricing up parts and people keep linking to American sites lol

Just found out Scan have the 8200 in for £122 delivered, I was going to get the 6750 for £118 delivered - should I spend the extra 4 quid?

Pepp I would... from what I've read the E8200 is the equivilant of the E6750 but with the newer tech. 6MB cache and 45nm tech. jm2c on the deal. ;)

    @ddp,
I sometimes have a "problem" deciphering your humor. ;) Seems as tho Praetor was a little harsh. lol. Anyway the way I meant it was "if all else fails read the directions". :D

    8300?, havent seen that one.

    Stats

    6750:- £118
    2.66Ghz
    1333FSB
    4MB L2 Cache
    65nm

    8200:- £122
    2.66Ghz
    1333FSB
    6MB L2 Cache
    45nm

Since posting previously have been reading on x-bit labs about the new processors - the 8200 outscored the 6750 in all tests even outdid the 6850 in one test.

Looks like its not worth getting as an upgrade from a 6xxx series chip to the 8xxx chips but they would be the better choice if not upgrading.

    My bad, the 8400, sorry.
It's not in the UK yet, but supposedly £130 when it will be... if ever.

Scan have the 8400 listed at a few pennies under £130 - and they have it as due in on the 12th of this month. Cant really stretch the budget to that though, have already increased from 4400 to 6550 to 6750 and now will probably get the 8200 lol, purely because it uses less KWs than the 6750 and as this build is going to be on pretty much all the time, that could make a difference in the long run.

@gms - some of your acronyms get me confused, good thing google understands you lol

    Pepp77,
The E8400 will eat them all alive! I'll have a better Idea how well the E6750 does after I upgrade the Ram to 1066 and get it to 3.8GHz. I know someone on another forum who has an E8400 on an older P5W DH Asus MB and he gotten to 3.807GHz with Corsair XMS DDR2 Cas4 800MHz (DDR26400) memory. 35,000+ MIPS and a healthy memory bandwidth of around 8200+!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

I think upgrading to the E8200 is a good move, you will not be disappointed.

    good luck to you......

Anything would be an upgrade from a Pentium D925 that randomly crashes and a 4 year old AMD Athlon 64 3400+ at 2.19Ghz laptop - that takes over a minute to unrar a 350 meg file (at least the 925 when its working does it in under 10 secs lol).

wow that is impressive. I might have to use my old and proven P5W DH in my new build with a new 45nm cpu. I would of course have to update the bios. BTW, that somebody wouldn't be Soph would it?

Pepp, you are right. When building a new PC the E8200 is an excellent choice, but if I decided to ditch my E6750 for the E8200 it would be a stupid decision, at least economically.

So yes, good for new builds, not exactly good for upgrading. If you have deep pockets like that you would get the E8400 or an Intel Quad core anyway.

I doubt it will have the latest bios. the bios flash screen will tell you the bios vs or cpu-z will too. go to the gigabyte website and look for the latest official bios.

you may not need to update the bios unless it is not compatable with your cpu. I would play with whatever bios it has a while before updating.

I have a question that might interest cincyrob, the new 8200 needs the f10 version of the bios on the GA-P35C-DS3R that im getting and the 8400 needs the f11 version of bios for the GA-P35-DS3R that cincyrob is getting.

My question is this if the MOBO comes with an earlier version (which is likely as the versions were only released a month ago) and is therefore incompatible with the CPU how do we upgrade the BIOS to the correct version?

As far as I can recall it has to be done using a different CPU compatible with the same socket - i.e. using an old P4.

You'll have to get either a natively supported board revision or get one pre-flashed.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - you never know though you might get a motherboard made last week lol.

Looks like I may just get the 6750 after all as Im not in a position to put another CPU in to upgrade the bios (my current CPU being dodgy and all im not wanting to risk it in the new motherboard).

Edit - Also just noticed revision 2.1 of both boards was released at the end of december - but neither newegg nor ebuyer state the version they have.
