Russ, I've been there and done that. I don't like waiting. I have a general idea of what my computer can do and I push it up that high.

haven 3 boys and working second shift the only time i really get to play with this is at night after work, when im tired like i was lastnight and got mad...lol

well the 100gb is in place as slave and seems fine.

tried to OC some. took it up to 3.51ghz up'd the vcore to 1.35, mem is at 1170, 3.0 multi
it runs but wont pass a stress test. put it back to normal 3.46ghz and all of a sudden it wont pass stress there either.

went back in put the mem down to 2.5 multi 975. a little under clocked. i got it at 390 freq= 3.51ghz running orthos now for 20+ mins still stable. cpu and mem.

heres whats odd. when i had the mem at 1170 and ran the stress test with cpu and mem it failed. but if i did cpu alone(at3.51ghz) it was stable. so thats telling me the mem is holding it back not the CPU.
like i said i under clocked the mem a little and its running stable at 3.51ghz gonna let orthos run all night and see what it does

rob it's always good to try and run your RAM as close to "stock" as possible when you're first OC'in. A little under is better than a little over at this point for sure. You basically take the RAM out of the equation if it's at stock or lower. You can focus on the CPU and push it until you need to play with the FSB, MCH, or RAM. :) hth.....

Installed the TR Ultra 120. It was a little more involved than I thought it would be but I'm sure I'll be happy. I'm in need of sleep so I'll post some temps tomorrow evening. ;)

rob you thought the cooler you had was big, L@@K at this. :p

    @GM
man will the side cover fit???lol. that joker is big. looking at that nice case you have there ;) those 140mm fans you got on top look better than the 120mm in the same spot.

well after 4 1/2 hr of orthos at 3.51ghz all is well nice and stable
i guess it was just the matter of trail and error. seems like the 2.5 multi is the way to go. leave the 3.0 alone. seeing that i got educated a bit here. i decided to take the freq up to 400. yup 3.6ghz and mem is still on the 2.5 multi running a tad under 1066 at at nice 1000. and stable. im actually running orthos as i type. been going about 20 mins all is well.

everest was taken before i put it on Orthos stress
the core temps right now are 58-60c

That's what we like to see! It's a monster of a cooler, and yeah, it is slightly awkward to get on, but well worth the effort.
If there's one thing that I do think would be better with my current cases is if they had a big, or multiple big top fans. Nothing silly like the 200mm on the 900, but at least a 120 would be nice - an 80mm can't push that much air before it starts making a din.

That's the Ultra-120 (my heatsink too lol), the board I think is either a DS3P or DS4, not sure on that one, and the case is a coolermaster RC-690?

The RC-690 is way better for cooling than the P182, but the P182 is better suited for silence.
