The inside of my Antec 900 is super cool (even with 5 internal hard drives), must be because i don't have a hot graphics card in there, i only have a cheapy low performance card (with no fan) in there. Plus i keep all fans on slowest setting plus the Zalman CPU cooler is on slowest. Granted, summer is not yet here so it'll probably need the fans cranked up a bit in the summer for encoding duties.

There were certainly no heat issues in my 900, I undervolted the fans when they were set to low so they ran at 700rpm, (and the 200mm one to just 150rpm) and turned the CPU fan off entirely on my Zalman CNPS7000-Alcu (the really cheap one). CPU heatsink got kind of warm, that's about it.

Ah good call shaff - I didn't spot that. You guys may want to edit your posts to remove the foul language. You've already been warned once.

Considering that they rank the Thermalright as being LOUDER than the Freezer 7 Pro, I think they did use it with a fan.

Also my name is Abuzar. That's why it says abuzar1, not azubar1.

okay then, what were the two coolers fan speeds? and what CMF did the fans push at those speeds?

    shaffaaf,
Would you care to share that Anandtech link. I would like to read those tests! I tried to find it on their site, but no luck finding it! Opps, you already supplied the link! LOL!!

    EDIT:
I read the article and can easily see how the AF-7 Pro can keep up with the 120 Ultra! First off those temps you posted were at stock idle speeds. Second, did you notice the room temps? 68-72 degrees F is downright chilly! It's 76 degrees in here right now and I'm getting goose bumps. Time to turn the heat on low! LOL!!

What the article also shows is that there is no way that the AF-7 Pro can keep up with the Thermalright when it comes to overclocking under heavy loads. Still when the ambient temp isn't that high, it shouldn't have any difficulty performing the way it does. It is after all, capable of dissipating 130w of heat. That's pretty good performance for the buck! Throw in some good case ventilation and it's a darn good cooler! Under PWM control, it's also very quiet. Even when encoding with DVDRB/CCE it doesn't get to 50C on my computer. Full load Orthos sees temps in the low 50s (52-54C), with an occasional flicker up to 56C! It works and it works well!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

I wouldn't worry about it Abuzar, I've seen shaff make the same typo over and over again and was going to correct him anyway, but decided against it as I thought it was best left at your discretion.

Ok so they aren't testing under realistic conditions. What's the point of that?

EDIT: Also I replaced the thermal paste that comes with my Freezer 7 a couple of days ago with AS5. The temps seems to have gone up actually. Maybe I didn't apply it right, because Core 1 and Core 2 and always hotter than the other ones now.

Yeah but I thought they provided some other paste, not mx-2.

nop its mx2 on the bottom, it makes the freezer pro 7 look like even more of a bargin :)

and possibly why it was beating the TRUE

At idle perhaps, but there's no way there'll be an environment where the Freezer 7 can cope and the TRUE can't.

yeah thats true (pun intended xD)

maybe the freezer pro can keep it cooler at stock, but there is no way it would at high OCs, and it wouldnt go as far as the TRUE in OCing

I think I'm proof of the pudding for that one - a fan that runs at a quarter of the speed, a higher clock speed and lower temps - without even cleaning and redoing the Arctic silver.

well my temps aren't as good as I was anticipating. I think I'm going to replace the scythe s-flex SFF21F with a silverstone FM123. 106.3 CFM max vs 63.7 CFM max. push some air through this baby. if that doesn't drop the temps, I may lap the base of the hs. here's my temps in OCCT at 4.0ghz, 73f ambient:

although these are not excessive at the moment I wouldn't want them any higher and they are higher than I would like. I'm not going to shoot for a higher OC until/unless I can get the temps down a bit.

TRUE = ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme.
