Just my opinion, but Vista in any form sucks! I've had to deal with Vista "Home" and Vista "Home Premiere"! First off, it's slow and nothing looks familiar in the system folder of the control panel! Not even the Icons! One I had here for repair, would sit there idling and crash. 3 times in 15 minutes. I installed a new 500GB hard drive in one and had to go through all sorts of crap calling M$ to authenticate the new drive. Bill Gates can keep his version of "Big Brother". I don't like being told what hardware, software or operating system I'm "allowed" to use. It's my computer, not Bill Gates's!

That looks pretty good Lp, thanks for the heads up. It will be a while before I do anything, but I'll keep that one in mind.

got a question guys. about HDD's and boot order.

ive just cloned my 100gb from my 250gb. i have the 100gb pluged into the mobo now not hte pci-e card i got. i have my sata drive unpluged. the puter is up and running fine(other than this 100gb is 8mb cache and is slow) if i plug the sata drive back in. in the 01 slot instead of the 00 will it be seen as the secondary drive and boot up from the 100gb that i set the jumper pin in as master?

the reason for this is i want the 100gb to be the master for now. so i can do a complete format on the 250gb and then let windows see it as 250gb now that i have SP2 installed then i will clone the 100gb over to the 250gb....

oh yea. my temps seem to be going down the longer this thing seems to be running. im now when idleing my temps are in the mid to high 40's 46-49c and the cpu temp is in the high 20's 27-29c
right now im running orthos and the temp is only 56c been running about 22 mins

If you're using Arctic Silver that's normal as it has a set-in period during which temperatures will decrease.

ok . got my hdd situation worked out. i now have the 100gb(93 actually) is set as master. is kinda slow compaired to the 16mb cache of the 250gb. but thats ok and only temporary. the 250gb is set as slave and is showing 238gb which is normal after windows takes its 7% or so..lol

    hdd's working right.
    OS working fine now
temps are down. everything is great....

    NOT:
ran sandra again. getting that unknown error again? not sure if its the mem or not thats causeing this like last time? i havent had any problems with BSOD or shut downs/reboots ect.

every other stress test i have. i ran and everything is fine. heck in orthos i just ran the test on mem only for 45 mins no problems. i think the sandra program dont like me..lol

kinda off topic here so i will post this link to my thread.

Russ, i have had vista 32-bit from july last year. not one BSOD, not one incompatibilty, and i wouldnt go back to XP.

then last month i moved to 64-bit. i didnt go once a day w.o a minimum of 3 BSODS (mostly down to Nvidia). then last week i moved back to 32-bit. no problems, untill i installed Nvidia BETA drivers. the newest ones came out yesterday, where as the newest WHQLs came out LAST DECEMBER!

the next build i do (September/October) I will not get Nvidia, however good they are, unless they sort out thier Drivers.

when i had my x1900xt, i never had a problem.

and its been shown that on average, NVIDIA have caus the MOST BSODS in vista (28%) followed by Microsoft (17%)

the only time I have tried vista was when it came on my new laptop. it was vista home premium (or something like that). none of my older software was compatable with it. I reformated with XP the day after I got it. vista's gonna have to improve a whole bunch before I try it again.

Shaff: Neither did I. It's when I moved to the HD3000 series that it all went pear shaped.
Rob: Ok, I'll have a look. Is the error pretty instantaneous or does it happen after a while?

Running the test it seems to progress normally...

    :(

well is that in Xfire, or just normal play?

and think about it the 9800pro has had more Driver updates than the 8800GTX in 2008. says something doesnt it?

tbh, crysis is the only game for an upgrade from the current series, so ill be happy getting a 4870 for about £200-£250.

maybe ill wait to see how the cards perform on Farcry 2, and how the driver support for either team will be.

Primarily A, but a considerable amount of B. No crossfire for me any more though sadly, installing the Arctic Accelero S1 rev 2 as per the instructions has cracked the die of the GPU. No warranty from anyone on the card means that it's completely worthless...
