    HUGE NOISY COOLER!!!

Good thing I'm waiting on building a new computer. That really is impressive. Is The Inquirer trustworthy?

Well, that's what I keep asking myself. Usually I'd say no, but the fact that an entirely separate benchmark seems to validate a few of the scores mentioned on it seems to suggest that it could in fact be true. I'll see if I can find out what the actual power consumption offset is, and if it's remotely reasonable, I think my next card may well be an nvidia once again - two HD4870s will match it, but only when crossfire works, and to think that this card gets this level of performance for every game it runs rather than just a select set makes it very attractive indeed. However, for me to go with it, there will have to be a way of using it quietly - else I'm going with Plan B. It'll be a long while before I can afford said plan, but right now it'll be a while before I can afford anything much... :p

This Plan B, is to have two simultaneous gaming PCs up and running, for compatibility, testing etc. purposes. I like my low power usage, low heat, silent PC, but the numbers of games I play that run badly because I use an ATI card is getting rather disappointing now - it would be nice to have an everyday PC that I can play normal less demanding games on, then to have a not so quiet, not so efficient one I use when I need to play something demanding...
Not going to be a cheap project, but I think it could eventually be worthwhile - it will also leave me with a hardware testing platform. This is all many months down the line of course, but hey.

First of all it's been along time sense..I've been here happy belated fathers day to all the dads out there..well you'll be happy to..I've done away with the clear case the point was right it was'nt keep'in the e6750 cool enough to Oc so it's packed back up in the box..now..I got it up to 3.26ghz running at good temp at 33c at idle and 47c with orthos strees test..but i have a small problem i have to run the memory lose if..i go pass 3.00ghz on the cpu but at 3.00ghz..i can tighten up the memory at 4-4-4-12 consair to run it you have to have at 2.1v with.i believe changed to 0.1v in the bios to run the 4-4-4-12 timing but it will not hold it will restart to default setting..anyway..i'm just glad to have a new case for fathers day..to keep things alittle cooler..

    Specs 4 now..

Will what are your voltages for the cpu and RAM?? I would expect an increase of some sort for the OC you're trying to achieve. Your cpu to 1.4v (somewhere near there) and your RAM to 2.1v at least... that's normal running voltage (under your BIOS for your mobo I would say an increase of +0.3v would get you to 2.1v).

You'll have to push your MCH and FSB up a bit too if you intend to take your OC higher.. jm2c on the matter. :)

    good luck....

    ...gm

btw ME likey the NEW case..... :D

Lp531 good to see you buddy. :) You might look at some Mushkin too. :D btw I like the OCZ stuff... seems to be better than Crucial for now.... of course the Corsair PC2-8500 is getting good reviews and there a couple of members here that have it. ;)

for me, ill wait for both benches for the GTX 280 AND the 4850x2/4870x2 so long as the drivers are fine and benches, IMO i think im going ATI.

BTW, the reviews of the GTX 280/ 260 are out, with the GTX 260 being about £300 and the GTX 280 around £450.

well we get ripped off, im sure its $399 and $499 for the 260 and 280 repectively.

i have now seen the 260 as low as £260 and the 280 as low as £400.

in 2 weeks, after the inital mark up, im sure MOST 260s will be aroun £260, and most 280 will be £410 aswell.

    speaking of voltage.
i was looking at my CPU at newegg. in the specifaction it now shows my volt range is now from .85v-1.3625v
the max when i bought mine was 1.2250v

Will. i was just loking at all your stuff also. you can take your mem up to 2.1v thats the standard for it and the E6750 the max on it is 1.5v i think Russ might have his @1.44v??? correct me if im wrong russ.
you chould be able to get 3.4-3.5ghz out of it.

ok i took some of my own advice..lol
i bumped my vcore up to 1.3000
then took the CPU to 3.78ghz.also loosen'd up my mem some to 5-6-6-19
it is overclocked as well. uo from 800mhz to 840mhz
right now its stable in sandra. and has run about 30 mins so far in OCCT. once done with that i will run ORTHOS for a hour or so. the mem volts are still at +.03 never did take it to .04(2.2v)

with this OC my temps have gone up some under load.65-68c

    cincyrob,
    You are correct!

Will should have no problem at 3.5GHz. As you can see, it runs pretty cool at that! The memory is slightly underclocked at 1050MHz on the 2.4 multiplier. With a CPU Math score of over 32,000 MIPS and a Memory Bandwidth of over 8000MB/s it's quite speedy!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

    $900 for a video card...F...that...

I was thinking about waiting for them...but that is a ridiculous price for a Video Card...

They won't set you back 900 dollars in the US - it's just the UK's import tax and VAT at work. It will be 600 to 650 dollars tops based on our prices.

    @Sam
I thought they were going to be in the $300 range...I still have No Need for a $600 card...It looks like the 8800GT 1GB will be the card for me...$149 after a $20 rebate...probably the best deal that I will find...

    Sorry...I misquoted price...

$129 is going to be unbeatable, but the Radeon HD4850 is offering promising performance (seemingly a bit better than the 9800GTX) for a pretty reasonable price.

On a slightly different note, it looks like those who opted for crossfire boards might reap rewards this gen - preliminary 3dmark vantage shots place a pair of HD4850s, let alone 4870s beating the GTX280 by a considerable margin - cheap, cool, quiet and fast - ATI could potentially have a winner on their hands.

    @Sam
What price's are you seeing for the 4850 & 4870 cards...
    I heard...
    4850 @ $229...
    4870 @ $300...

If the 260 & 280 cards are in the $600 range...ATI will win this round of the Card Wars...regardless of how much better the Nvidea Cards are...I will never pay $600 for a Card...besides there are No Games that I play that require such a powerful card...Frankly COD4 is the only New Game I like...Unreal Tournament 3...Sucks Big Time...

I heard the same for their prices. Curiously the 8800GTS G92 is fading out of sale in the UK, with stock and listings disappearing all over the place - I was going to use it for a UK/US price comparison. Suppose I'll use the 8800GT instead.

A decent 512MB 8800GT seems to be about $170 in the US. In the UK they're about £120. Given this, the $230 HD4850 should be about £160. The HD4870 would be about £210.

The pre-order price for the GTX260 in the UK is £270 for tier 2 brands like Gigabyte and Leadtek, £300 for tier 1 brands like XFX.

The pre-order price for the tier 2 GTX280s is £430. The GTX280 Tier 1 is in stock now at £470. Expensive? On day of release, the 8800GTX was also this price.

Usually, Thermalright coolers don't fit in coolermaster cases because they're unusually thin.
