I can't argue there. I got very lucky to get my ultra's for $300 including shipping (mint condition in original box). I couldn't justify spending $500 or more.

agreed the 5500's produce more bass but it is not as tight and a little muddy.

What you have to bear in mind Rick is that Peltiers produce heat in order to move other heat around.

very true. you have to have someplace for the heat to exit away from where you are trying to cool. just like with any std a/c unit.

LOL. No I was getting ready to make a drugstore run and was typing at the same time. True but the Logitech's have been cited for better midrange response. I actually turn my bass down so no debate there. I considered purchasing Klipch at the beginning but the price was to high for me to justify any possible benefits. I paid $249 for them when the best price on the klipch were about $480.

All that heats got to go somewhere. The best case scenario is to mount it in the front of your cases sealing the heat side down and adding a radiator to the cool side up with the front intake blowing through it.

Forgot to mention that you will have to cut a hole in the bottom of your case for venting.

I've read that they do produce a lot of heat, but if its dispersed in the case, the fans should take care of that. Basically my question being are these better than Reg heatsink and fans for the CPU. I've also noticed these need 12Volts and a fair amount of AMPS.
    This is my case decision:COOLER MASTER Mystique RC-632S-KKN1-GP Black Aluminum/ SECC ATX Mid, 1 x 120mm front fan,1 x 120mm rear fan,Side Air duct
Corsair TX 650W ATX12V Power Supply
GIGABYTE GA-X48-DQ6 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
    OCZ Platinum Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000
Now I'm probably going to have a Video card with fan and heatsink in or about the $100.00 range, as its only for Movies and Surfing, 2 DVDRWs, eventually 4 HDD (Seagate 500Gig)
Now is this PSU got enough beef to run one of those fancy Coolers, or is it even needed, on this system (NO OVERCLOCKING, Just as it comes outta the box)Stock.

In my humble opinion, Peltiers are never needed to cool components - standard heatsink/fan combos will always get the job done, especially if you're not overclocking.

Thank you that's all I needed to know. Going to place my order now. be back shortly. Unless their are some suggestions for improvement. The only thing I've ordered already is the PSU, ordered it yesterday

good luck with the new build rick. only a couple things I would change but that's all personal preferance and would not effect the quality of the build.

    sammorris,
Just passing by and thought I would respond to this post! From Kansas, to the Theater Pipes, it's the most amazing sound system I've ever heard! The Realtek ACL889A with the Azalia HD Codec is a real winner. DTS or PL-II with DVDs are extraordinary. It's pretty wierd to have someone come up behind your screen view and walk right into the scene. You can literally feel him pass on your right! I also had a stroke of luck in that the eMachine uses the same chip and codec! Both work magnificently!! By yet another stroke of luck, Micro$oft recently released the XP Specific drivers for all the HD chips and video drivers. Before that, Vista would not allow you to even play a DVD, if you had an open video port with the Vista drivers! If you had the capability to record a DVD, like by adding a burner, it wouldn,t let you play it on either drive, even with XP Pro. The new XP drivers from Micro$oft cured that! Before, all you could get was the vista drivers and hoped they worked!

BTW! I've got a better than decent sound system in the front room, and haven't turned it on in months!

    Russ
