I'd like to know where you can get a turbo for 300. That might cover the cost of an intercooler, but to properley turbocharge a car: turbo manifold, intercooler, turbo, larger injectors, larger fuel pump, less restrictive exhaust; you're going to spend at least $1000 and can easily bump that figure up to $3500 or more if you add in new valvetrain to handle the boost, and new pistons to lower the compression to a more boost friendly level, and a new throttle body to get more air into it. 550? After spending at least $6000 in mods you can get 550bhp. You could do it for alot less but it would be a walking time bomb, because it wouldn't be properly prepped for that much boost. Actual numbers from the Mitsubishi website: " Lancer Evolution VIII MSRP* $ 30,699 Comes standard with a factory performance-tuned 2.0-liter, DOHC, 16-valve, turbocharged engine with 276 horsepower and 286 lb-ft torque." In all reality Americans tend to build their cars for straight line speed. While import drag racing has become quite popular here in the states, most japanese and european cars that get modded here in the US are more or less built for taking the back roads and carving the corners. Not trying to start a war here Oriphus, I just didn't agree with some of the information you were giving. I personally find myself torn between the world of imports and the american muscle car world and tend to follow both religiously.
Screw cars, if you want performance just get a Suzuki GSXR-750. I was very rarely overtaken by cars. The only exception was in Germany, on the autobahns. We were doing over 150mph though! It is a nice feeling to go from 0-100 in 5.5 secs (hang on baby)& 100-0 in 4.5 secs (Makes your eyeballs pop out!). not many cars can beat that!! It was standard, who needs a loud exhaust to announce their arrival to the local constabulary? Even faster acceleration was my '98 Honda CR500, made gsxr seem like a bicycle with flat tyres! With Pavarotti sat on it! Holding an unfeasibly large piece of lead!
My mate has a 7.5l V8 chevvy in his boat with Holly carbs you could loose a small child in. All packed into a 17' Glastron. Boy does she go!
me i rather have a 70 to 80 foot pt boat with 3 packard merlin engines doing about 30+ knots, scare the shit out of everybody when that thing goes by at full speed
30knots? Try water skiing at nearly 70knots behind my mates Glastron. That was a certainly interesting experience!
a pt boat from ww2 was about 80ft long & 15-20 ft wide & do 30+ knots. at end of war was considered the most heavily armed vessel for their size & usually outran all the big boys
I dare any one of you pansies to beat me and my ride. Stats: - 0 to smoker-out-of-breath in 45 seconds. - Built-in "beanie weenies" NOS with 15 dry shots and one or two wet shots depending on how hard I push. - Low center of gravity. - Definite chick magnet. - Adjustable seat. - Great downhill performance especially if you're fat. - Specially formulated L-rated tires provide superior traction on linoleum - Custom billet aluminum pedals and orange saftey flag optional.
ddp, what has who won the war got to do with it? I thought we were talking out & out performance. A colloquialism I would use would be "what has the price of cheese got to do with it?" Neph, was that you who took me on the Peages north of Lyon a few years back on that pocket rocket you have? I was doing 165mph+, I'm sure it was you, you were just a blur. That colour scheme looks very familiar!
Here is a mans' engine, 18 cylinder, 2 stroke diesel. Sounds very sweet! http://www.lexcie.zetnet.co.uk/delticengine.htm
the pt boats were still around after the war but the e boats weren't besides didn't the german s boats go faster
my stepfather told me of seeing a car with a very long engine in it. the car had to be modified to handle the engine out of a hurricane or early mark spitfighter
pulsar mentioned that 7.5 liter chevy engine earlier...sounds like a sweet 454 cid for those (like me) in the States....o0o...how i love the 454's...
