Alright, well I would put AS on my chipset but you guys remember what happened with my Compaq right? Theone, since you seem to have already done it, did it have thermal glue stuff on it? How did you take it off?

I find that with the majority of motherboards, the chipset is just attached using normal thermal grease.

Oh alright cool. So coffee filters work fine for cleaning it off right? Coffee filters and alcohol?
EDIT: Oh and I'm supposed to just put a small drop in the center of the chip?

    abuzar1,
    Code:

I use Automotive Fuel Injector additive or Carburator cleaner and a paper towel. It's not going to scratch anything! Once I've got all the old stuff off I go back and clean that off with alcohol before I put the AS5 on it. I just put a little blob about 3/16" right in the center of the chip and install the heatsink!

Man F.E.A.R is lagging like crazy. Would this be a heat issue? The setting are auto-detect except that I have the CPU part at high. I thought my PC would be able to run it.

    Remind me of your specs?

What detail setting are you using?

    E6400 at 2.4 Ghz.
    ga-965p-ds3
1 gb crucial ballistix tracers ram(2 512 mb sticks, dual channel mode)
7600 GT(I think its the most overclocked version EVGA provides)

I have FSAA and softshadows off. everything else is max

What resolution is it? At max, a 7600GT will struggle with FEAR. 1600x1200 is the highest I'm happy with on my card, and it's a lot more powerful than a 7600GT.

    abuzar1,
Fear runs fine on mine so check in the Advanced section of the setup and see that the CPU Thermal Monitor 2 is turned off. C1E on, is OK as it goes to max as soon as you load it down anyway. Also check your memory speed, multiplier and Latencies. You are a bit short on memory as you really need 2GB for it to perform well.

Hmm, at 1024x768 you should be alright, having only 1GB of memory may see you a bit short though, have you tried closing all other programs before you start playing?

I do close all programs before starting. when I click on test settings I get minimum 60 fps and average 88. Turning off that setting helped a lot. Sad thing is, before I turned off speedstep I was running at stock speed and it seemed to perform better.

Hmm, can you Alt-tab out of the game during a level and check the task manager for commit charge?

I'll try. I'm leaving right now, but when I get back I'll try. Anyway I undervolted and went back to stock speed. Temp went down 3 degrees lol. Same performance if not better in FEAR. Maybe I should run my RAM at faster speeds at tighter timings.

EDIT: You guys said I need more ram. How is this? I currently have this. I just want both kinds of memory to run at the same speeds fine.

Well I upped the FSB to 333, and the ram to 500 mhz. I also managed to get a look at task manager while playing FEAR. Everything runs without any lag now. Some images: [IMG][IMG]

Hmm, I'd recommend sticking with the same stuff if you're combining RAM.

Hey I guess I'm just a retard. Is there any other way, except for the line method to apply arctic silver successfully. I can't seem to get that to work. Oh and do I have to turn my motherboard over and squeeze the plastic things holding the chipset heatsink to the board, or is there another way to remove it.

thats what has to be done, no other way around it.

here's the instructions for applying AS5 to an Intel C2D CPU.

I know, I've seen them. That's why I said I can't get the line method to work. I've already tried it two times and I guess I always get too thick of a line and then I have to take some off.
