Yes, because I downloaded the 720p rips of all three series. My point is, they bothered, for three series of TOS. There are 21 seasons of TNG/DS9/VOY to do, and Paramount are cheapskates :p

I doubt they'll be cheap with TNG. I'll begin murdering off their staff if they attempt to be cheap LOL! I'm sure there are or will be eventually, programs that will handle a GOOD percentage of the work, which will decrease the cost of producing them ;)

I don't see how those gpu's were able to stay cool long enough to run the tests.

At 100% fan speed they'd probably run around 95-98ºC. They probably wouldn't run real world games tests without underclocking, but 3dmark is light on the GPUs other than 2 short minutes, so it's not much of an issue.

Yeah, I see what you mean - let me ask you this: Over on Tom's hardware some guys were talking about 2 5850s versus 2 5870s, and vs a 5970 4 gig when it comes out - and then one guy said "Yeah, you can pick up a 5970, and then add a 5870 later in crossfire."

So that would be tri-cf 5870 essentially - assuming 4 gigs on the 5970 and 2 gigs on the 5870. I know that crysis only supports 3 gpus, and the gtx 480 in tri-sli was able to bring in 2560x1600 highest quality, at around 50fps. I know the game is optimized for nvidia, but what would you think one could get, with tri-cf on that game, same resolution, same highest settings? Just a guess is all I'm wondering about.

On the other hand, Warhead will take advantage of 4 gpus - is that right?

Nice info! I just saved that in my Metro paperport folder for when I get that game - I still remember your killer review!

"evga rape the 3dmark vantage record for all 4 catagories with aa QUAD GTX480 setup. (and 12 cores (24 threads)"
"Interesting but not really applicable to anything at all as 3DMark = Nvidia's Private Sex Slave"

Jeff and Shaff are duking it out - but those Kingpin and Shimono guys - pretty impressive stuff!

    Jeff isn't done:

"But it was wholly unnecessary and took like half of Nvidia's stock of working 480s... " haha

"Nvidia, The Way It's Meant To Be Played" What, you mean on fire? Or do you mean not at all because the card is dead?

    MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

"Likewise, if you attached large rockets to a car it'd be the fastest road car ever, but er, you get the point."

Sam can't let Jeff have all the fun!

But Shaff comes back with .............. "FANBOYS!"
"It really is an ATI thread here isn't it?"

And let's not forget about the two 6-core cpus!!! - aren't those little suckers running around a grand each??

    SPEAKING OF HD!
On other news - my brother and I picked up a toshiba 47" floor model for $100 off - (we liked it then missed getting over there the next weekend, then the weekend after that they were sold out in all of So Cal and discontinuing the special - so I stood there guarding the floor model until my brother could bring the truck :p) at costco for $800 with a usb port. It will play a lot of stuff directly from a thumb drive - all standard avis - I squeezed av...t..ar on a 4 gig thumb as a 1080p avi, but that is too advanced for the builtin media player - so I'm trying to find some 720p avis as a test.

I think the eventual plan is to pick up one of the new "DivX Plus" blueray sets that were just announced which are coming out first in Europe, which will handle all types of dvds, etc., as well as thumb drives into the usb port with the high end avis and 1080 mkv files.

We get 11 high def channels off the cable, as it is, without paying the extra $20/mo for the HD box - and the high-res just blows regular tv out of the water!!

    HD ROCKS!

Haha just did a reformat last night. First time in about 6 months. Ahh, feels like a big dump XD

Also... might have a small chance at a Phenom II X6 1090T. Not counting my chickens here but there is that possibility...

What do you mean you have a chance? Like you may get it for free! Not fair :p

I'm not too concerned with having one at this point in time. My 965 is wonderful. And most of my softwares can't utilize 6 cores. Only a handful can utilize 4 ;) I think Apophysis may be the only one with the potential of going beyond 4 cores. Though CCE encoder may have the potential. Gonna have to look into that :D

Tri-CF with a 5870 and a 5850 is a waste, as when mismatching cards all GPUs only perform to the abilities of the slowest GPU. Since the HD5970 effectively performs like two 5850s, you're better off getting a 5850 with it. Of course, the extra processors on the 5870 will help performance marginally, but very little for the reasonably considerable extra cost. Using the 5970 4GB with a 5870 2GB is, of course, a totally viable option, though it will require adapters for a large number of high-end PSUs, as lots of high-end units (Corsair excluded) only ship with two 8-pin units, regardless of the number of 6-pins they have. A 5970 4GB with a 2GB 5870 would require three 8-pins and one 6, as opposed to the two 8s and two 6s that running a pair of standard 5970s requires.
Given how CF/SLI scales in Crysis, an HD5870 Tri-CF setup will be roughly 20% behind the GTX480s at worst, maybe only 5-10% at best.
I haven't seen an article specifically examining 4 GPU performance in Warhead, from what I gather they do work, but scaling for ATI is far lower than for nvidia as it is of course coded out of the game.

well f me! Good to see asus where it belongs :D

what speed were both processors running at. And that gpu clock is insame, over 1.3GHz! That's some serious overclocking.

btw has anyone played blur? Or pre ordered it? Is it worth the £35? Does it have offline splitscreen?

It works out around a 60% overclock on the GPUs, damn ludicrous. The article also states the CPU was running at 6.08Ghz at 1.85V.

It's been a while but I finally got around to getting that audigy sound blaster SE. It fixed my bad company problems and I have even better sound when playing with war tapes. What exactly do those hacked drivers add? I'm not too worried if it just adds speaker fill.

Blur looks interesting, but it's very rare that paying £35 for a game is worth it. Here's hoping Starcraft 2 is one such an example, having today pre-ordered it (before the Beta key offer expires at GAME)

If you are on XP they don't add anything. If you are on Vista or 7 they add the Creative Console.

And if you reboot in safe mode and run the Crystallizer unlocker that comes with the hacked drivers you unlock the X-Fi Crystallizer and CMSS-3D Stereo Surround.

Sorry about the poorly cropped screenie BTW did it in 10 seconds with paint...

mmm if only there was a self containted way for ln2, it would be awesum, but to keep LN2 lquid constant, the pressure will have to be immense no?
