that's not a demanding game at all. Demanding in 2011, an 8800GTX wouldn't be able to manage 30fps at minimum settings, 1920x1200.

Well compared to the games Rich normally plays I would imagine it seems demanding. It's more demanding than BC2 at times and pretty poorly optimized. I'm still waiting for proper Crossfire support to open up so I can finish it.

I'm starting to suspect my cards got nerfed at the driver level for some reason. My friend's single 6970 just gave me some clue about performance. I might track down how far back I'm nerfed and revert to that version to see how BC2 performs. That's my most affected and certainly most important game to perform well at.

Interestingly enough my most recent gaming conquest has been playing through CoD: United Offensive again. Wow Treyarch where did you go wrong? United Offensive is easily one of the best games in the series IMO. Even being on the same engine, the technology being used blows away CoD1. The graphics are actually impressive for the age of the game. Have found myself amazed by the amount of detail and action the Quake 3 engine is capable of. Treyarch have really truly impressed me here. I would go so far as to say IT'S A BETTER GAME THAN EVERY OTHER TREYARCH GAME. Not only in technical brilliance but in sheer quality as well.

    Basically:
    CoD1 - 8/10
    CoD:UO - 9/10
Every other Treyarch CoD - 5/10

Basically I last played it so long ago I didn't fully remember it. But right now I am comparing it favorably to other more modern games. United Offensive is astoundingly well made and very gripping to play. I never realized that until recently given my gaming tastes matured as my PC did. Essentially I've been playing all the way through at 200+ FPS... I highly recommend anyone who ever enjoyed a CoD game to go back and revisit this gem. It's a direct expansion to the first game meaning you have to work your way through the original campaign first but the overall experience is worth it. Even the new CoD games aren't as exciting or forward looking. These games were truly a leap in technology and shows why consoles will never keep up with PCs. Play the console version, CoD: Finest Hour. Certainly a good game, but like a fart in the wind compared to the PC game.

It's interesting you should say that, as one of my friends traded two 6850s for one 6970 (not directly, but that's the change he made) and seems much happier for it.

I never said the 6850s were slower. Only that using a 6970 allowed me to make some comparisons. I'm starting to get a bad hunch though.

Not saying you did, neither did my friend, but he did say he preferred it (I think he was referring to lack of microstutter with a single card)

Regardless I'll be sticking with these cards for a while unless I can get a kickass offer for them(both being factory pristine) or get a good deal on an XFX HD6970. Would consider it for the speed boost alone. Seems to me that in games where Crossfire scaling isn't the best, a single 6970 is the faster card. Also, the 6970 doesn't seem to be a target of the small nerfing the 6800s got, more than likely to manipulate prices and ensure the 6900s sell.

Will make the note that very few games actually have microstutter, and in even fewer still is it noticeable over other types of system stutter. Not that my system stutters badly, but I have very little I can accredit directly to crossfire.

The HD6870s have massively come down in price over here I notice, down from £170-£190 to £130-£140.

In other news, got my new internet connection setup today (finally):

we'll im sure the ground work is there, Bright House has fiber optics running from poles to converters where i live...as a matter of fact its been that way for 6 years. i remember in 02 hacking the docsis on my modem and pushing a connection of 75/50 for a whole 25 minutes threw copper... fried the modem but bright house didn't even know. it was funny to say the least. i'm just wonder how high i could push it again. now that we have fiber optics mmmm 1000/750 maybe.

Yah, my brother talked about certain types of insulation, orange I think, going into the ground. And that's supposedly what it's for. I'm patient :p 5Mbps is enough to stream a respectable quality netflix flick. Heck, I was doing it on a 1.5 and 3Mbps connection for a while. I'm not too picky.

Kingsbury? FTTC is showing active at the exchange on samknows. Not that that means they necessarily fitted cabinets for your street.
