Imminent suspension pending on my account I suspect, so I'll be brief.
If you don't see me again, you can have a read through a few pages of the official PC building thread, that will explain why.

Otherwise, good chat guys, see you whenever.

Your statements didn't appear that out of line :p

I hot glued an AMD fan to the 8600GT. The results are quite impressive! At a mere inaudible 1800Rpms, the idle temps have dropped a whopping 9C :D And the load temps never exceeded 52C after 15 min of game play @ 3000Rpm(which is surprisingly quiet). Still obviously temporary. More fun than anything. Left 4 dead is not very intensive, and I still found it gobbling up video memory. Grand theft Auto IV is out :( I recall trying it once upon a time. No way no how at my resolution.

sam, doggy_bot was not in reference to you so not to worry. it was about omega's statement about not doing a rude sig got me to remember why i banned doggy_bot & it was not a sig but a pretty graphic picture involving 2 ladies.

Fortunately those open coolers lend themselves well to aftermarket fans like that.

That sounds like you're walking through a dark tunnel - the underground - but obviously you're referring to the subway since you talk about the expense of it.

If only we could get you limeys to talk right!

Well, EXCUSE me??? That was Shaffaaf right?

    "No it clearly said sammorris."

    ????????????

Well, Sam, unless you've blasphemed the Queen somewhere, it sounds like ddp has no surprises for you on this thread. But I have half a mind to visit the builder thread to check out the intrigue.

In the meantime, I'll see if I can get ddp to email me doggy_bot's graphic image of the two ladies .... err .... so I can make sure I never post anything similar, of course - what'd you think?

I realise this is a jest, but the term 'underground' is actually the name of the service, not just a term for what it is. Besides, subway is a bit ambiguous, as there are plenty of foot tunnels to cross large roads/junctions underneath that are called subways.

Around here, if you plan to go anywhere it's either drive or take all day to get there. I'm probably a couple hours walk from anything except the lake, and there are farm fields down the road lol. Working on my new car though, trying to get it in paint before summer, so I've been stranded :p

I live in a township of 7600 people just outside of a city of 18000. This is the boonies guys :p

The way the 8600Gt has been behaving, I almost worried that the GTX 570 would have an impact. My lag is gone, it smokes Left 4 Dead like it's nothing(highest), and windows 7 is smoother than ever! My CPU is cooler than it's ever been, thanks to the XIGMATEK Aegir SD128264 Mega Killer. Perhaps the coolit eco dying, was simply a sign to move on :D

Can't wait to test more. I plan to play some games really soon (Of course). And I believe it's time to bring on the blu ray encoding :D

Sometimes all it takes is a good lick of thermal paste... :p

    LOL ddp!

But you don't wanna overdo the Thermal paste either. I may have hit it just right with the mega killer. I wanted to avoid air pockets. Since the plate was far from flat on the mega killer, I added about twice as much as normal.

Hmm sounds like a good candidate for lapping. Everything I currently have is lapped sans the wonderfully laser straight Cool It block.

I was hinting at replacing it, not adding more than usual :p

Well, it seemed/seems to work well, so :p I probably should have lapped it honestly. I guarantee Jeff would feel the same way. I could darn near measure the gap.

Lapping is easy and not harmful at all. Anything you do will be the same or better than the original surface if it's as bad as you make it sound. CPU lapping ofc is not really needed but the cooler is easy to do. It just takes some time. People make a big stink about amount of TIM but I've always done just fine following the general guideline of "no gooshing out the edges = A-OK"

    NPB!

I may lap it one day. Given all the trouble I've gone through, I need a break LOL!

Well for one the Tuniq Tower's base is pretty badly warped by the soldering of the heatpipes which is what prompted my experimentation. It got terrible temps for about a month, lapped it, and it dropped 10*C and ran cool as ice. As a matter of fact it still puts up daily temps like when I first lapped it. Almost as cool as my CoolIt under normal working conditions.

Both of my Tuniqs needed lapping BTW.

That merely proves my point about the way you limeys mess up the language. Where I come from, which is the civilized part of the world that speaks proper English, subway means nothing more than the place underground where the little trains travel, and what you are talking about is a tunnel.

Or if you prefer, an underground tunnel - but is there any other kind? A tunnel in the sky? "Look up - it's Lucy in the sky with diamonds, in her tunnel." :p

Holy crap! I don't get it. Sam is from London, a big city, and he mixes up all his words, and Jeff is from a mere hamlet, but he speaks perfect English!

Yeah Kevin, it was a sign to move on, all right ... to move on TO AIR!!!!

    NICE COOLER!!

Well, I'm sorry Jeff, but living where you do, what else is there that you could possibly do in your spare time but shoot the AK at some cows, or lap your cooler?

Just kidding!!!! I say that hurriedly lest I alienate everybody whose technical help I will certainly need as I contemplate my first real OC later this summer.

I have heard that yes - lapping can take hours - but yes, lapping is hell on wheels for cooling. One day remind me, you guys, to take a picture of this round red copper cooler that has a fan in the middle, and you can tell me if it is adequate to move this 9450 to 3.6, or if I should get a Tuniq or True (or XIGMATEK) plus a lapping kit.

It's an excellent cooler Rich. I seem to be averaging 39 - 40C under 100% CPU load via X264 encoding. I run the fans now at 1500Rpms(easily sleep through it). It's a very agreeable noise level! I'm only at 3.7Ghz at the moment, But I believe 4.0ghz should be cake for this cooler/processor. I believe I found 3.9 to be the happy medium for this processor though. Beyond that, and I get diminished returns. It needs to last me at least another 9 months to 1.5yrs. And after the leaky cooler, I'm really hesitant pushing anything too hard. Especially the northbridge :(

For all I know, I may have a component on the board going. The Board received a bit of the moisture from the leak. Supposed to be non conductive(one would think). But the GPU clearly didn't like it LOL!
