    Yeah, it's quite something.

I'm still getting used to newegg showing me prices in GBP when I follow links - it's weird :p
Maybe I'll try ordering from them at some point in the future - not likely to be one of those though!

People with a fair bit of money to spare :)

Plenty of people out there willing to spend a few grand on powerful machines - it was a lot worse with bitcoining rigs...

Care to speculate on what a machine with that SLI setup might reasonably be used for? I haven't seriously PC gamed in many years so maybe I am just out of the loop.

Also, Newegg in £ is indeed neat - wasn't aware.

Two possibilities - either an ultra-high end 4K/multi-screen gaming PC, or a high-spec parallel processing PC (folding/SETI, coin mining etc. are some examples of this, but there are plenty of others including commercial things like video rendering). The Titans have very good GPU-computing credentials in areas where normal Geforces (all the way up to the 780Ti inclusive) do not. 4 Titan GPUs potentially have a lot of processing power for several non-gaming roles.

Makes sense. Didn't know about SETI@home though, that's neat.

Oddly, one site was suggesting 375W for the GPU, where others were saying 700W minimum. Clearly somebody dropped the ball LOL!

I won't touch it with a ten foot pole. Perhaps if I had $3000 in loose change :S Though I'd likely need more, because I'd need to overhaul my PSU as well! Not to mention my electric bill!

One will be the load of the GPU (375W actual draw) the other will be the recommended PSU size for a system that contains one. You ideally want a PSU to be no more than 75% loaded on a regular basis, which would give you 560W to play with - 185W on top of that GPU with a standard high-performance system is about right.

The R9 295X2, AMD's comparative offering to this, has a 500W TDP, and comes with a water cooling system as standard. Sound familiar? :)

Hi all. I have a request for info that I thought someone here might be able to help with. I just got a new Dell XPS 8700 desktop with the following graphics card: amd radeon hd r9 270 2gb gddr5 . It has two dvi outputs and an hdmi output for a total of three outputs. I tried hooking up three monitors but the computer only recognizes two: one dvi and the hdmi monitor. I am not computer savvy enough to know what to do to get this working with all three monitors. Here are my computers' specs:
    i7-4770 processor 3.4GHz
    24 GB RAM
    Windows 8.1

Any advice/suggestions on how to get this working?

Yeah, Jeff, I just don't know if I could ever get 4 ghz out of that 930 - but your idea of maybe just picking up some faster memory might be worth looking at. I don't need 12 gigs, which is what the evga x58 came with - I could just pick up 8 gigs for now - correct me anybody if you think I'm wrong about that. I currently have 4 3gb sticks on that x58, and as I recall, it takes up to 16 gb, so I think it takes 4 gb sticks. I recall that for overclocking it would be better to have 2 4gig sticks, than 4 2gb sticks - is that correct?

I know memory is pretty cheap - maybe I'll go to Newegg later tonight - what would that set me back for, as you say, 1800+ fast memory? Oh wait - I found some stuff, here it is:

Here's some 8 GB 1866 corsair for $76 - what do you think of this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233170

Oh, one thing I forgot, is that if I mount the TRUE, it would be better to use low profile memory in order to use all the fans. I'll take a look and see if there is anything that looks good in low profile.

I say TRUE because I can't remember the new name - silver arrow or something like that. The old one was Thermalright Ultra Extreme. (I already bought it - it came with 2 fans, and I have 3 140mm fans also left over from my spedo build - the new TRUE will mount up to 3 140mm fans. It also has kits to fit all the standard cpus that have come out in the last 5 years, including my 9450, the x58 i7, and all the new Haswell stuff.)

Okay, here's some $77 crucial ballistix, but ONLY 1600. It's low profile, meaning it won't block the second TRUE fan. (Actually the TRUE I just got will take a fan in the middle, so even without the front fan I could still run two fans on it.) Anyway, here's the low profile that will let me actually run 3 fans: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148662

Regarding the 1600, that's better than the 1066 I'm at now - and 1600 would get me almost to 4 ghz. At 4 ghz I'm going to pick up about 30% more cpu power, which will help me go from 30 fps almost to 40, and that will be quite a big help.

Wow look at that Titan Z freak that Kevin found!

Holy Mackerel, Kevin, is that supposed to be Jeff's next card, at only $3,000. A super freak if I ever saw one. Or maybe Sam's new card to go along with his $3,000 4k monitor.

I would guess THAT card could drive his monitor with room to spare, and no worries about crossfire!

I am really happy with my EVGA GeForce GTX 650 SUPERCLOCKED 2048MB GDDR5 DVI mHDMI Graphics Card 02G-P4-2653-KR! It is the kittie titties and I can play anygame with my win7 64 8 gigs memory and a choice between my 24 inch HDMI or my 42 inch Sony smart LCD . Oh yeah I run it off a AMD FX 6600 6 Core 3.5 Ghz lcd tele. I think I will go all out with a military grade board with 4 XGeForce 750 GTX ti next year.

billinvt: You can only usually run two outputs simultaneously I'm afraid, because modern graphics cards only have two RAMDACs (required to run any display interface other than displayport).
If the card has a displayport port on it (it should), use a displayport->HDMI adapter for the HDMI screen and the two DVIs for the others.

Rich: 4GB is old news these days - 8GB should be a minimum standard for powerful PCs. It's rare to need more than 8, but the number of times I've crossed the 6/7 mark is countless.
'Low profile' memory is just normal memory really. No need for the big dominator heatsinks really - not if your CPU fan is sucking air across the RAM anyway.
I'm not up to speed on the Thermalright names either - TRUE will do for me, I know what you mean :)

I've no interest in getting a Titan Z - they're mainly pricey because of their GPU computing performance (which is what gives it its 'titan' name) which I don't need.
If the R9 295X2 had been engineered such that it was a single air-cooled card like the Titan Z that worked, I would have lept at it, pretty much instantly. As it stands though, I'm not introducing water to my system, and two air-cooled 290Xs will not work out for me too well, so I'm still looking :p
If I can eventually be bothered, I think I'm going to probably just buy something like this and use it for a while, before waiting for the next gen for a dual-graphics setup again:

So having just finished Wolfenstein The New Order, I have to say we may have a game of the year on our hands. Absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. Easily one of the best FPS campaigns I've ever played.

That card looks pretty good Sam.

Jeff, can you describe it a bit - is it all zombies? What kind of a fps shooter experience is it. I trust your advice, given assassins creed, metro, rage, operation flashpoint, and a host of other shooters that you have turned me onto.

But ... how about a bit more about Wolfenstein? LOL

Is anyone else getting updates to the thread many hours later? It used to be instantaneous, but now it is not. I suspect the new layout is to blame ;)

But perhaps now that I've posted to this thread, with the new layout, perhaps I'll receive updates more quickly/timely.

I'll take a look into that. Should be instantaneous still, but you'll only get notified if you have visited the thread since the last email was sent (and you were logged in to the forums at the time).
