Hey a quick opinion is needed.

    Which is better:

    9800GT -1GB Memory BW
    9800GTX -512MB Memory BW

they are both $189, but the 9800GTX has much higher clock speeds it appears, which i think is more favorable than the Memory BW?

    Thanks in advance.

um, you have a GTX280 why are you concerned about 9800?
anyways, 9800GTX is better, having more memory doesn't improve performance much, unless you're gaming at high resolutions

    It's not for me.

Thats what I thought, he will still be able to game at high resolutions with the 9800GTX though...right?

Anyways, I was also looking at the 4850, but all the stats are worse than this 9800GTX. I understand that the 4850 is a single GPU and not two GPU chips cramped into one card, but he is only getting one card and I think the 9800GTX will provide more performance.

    ?

the 4850 beats the 9800gtx in most games, ofcourse there are some that it doesnt but about 80% of the time it does.

but it only beats it by 5 odd %, so its depend on the game and price

agree, HD4850 is a much better card than 9800GTX, it is faster, sometimes it's on par with GTX260 and HD4870 is basically on par with GTX280.

    alright then.

Yeah I am just looking at the numbers..the 4850 has 800 stream processors, while the 9800GTX has 128, but the 9800's clocks are 100 cycles faster.

the numbers doesn't say anything...HD4850 is better, and people in afterdawn aren't fanboy/fangirls.

you can go online and look for reviews

comparing their numbers is liek comparing apples to oranges. they are not compatible with each other.

Nah dude, I know your right hands down. Numbers don't mean anything.

The HIS 4850 is $156!, but they are on back order

so he's getting the Sapphire one for $199, still a better deal then the 9800GTX

    Thanks

hmm, ok...9800GTX is still a good card to have if HD4850 is too expensive. Otherwise HD4850 is the best choice between the two

Yeah, but what about MY question, the NZXT case? What happened to that one being the best with 7 fans, etc. (I'm confused.)

Yeah, dudes, but still - since GTR brought the whole thing up, how does the Tempest stack up against those two that we have been discussing? Is the price the same? Same level of quiet? Cooling just as good?

lol, of course, Lian-Li they build the best cases ever! but its darn expensive too.

@harvrdguy hmm, good question. Silent will definitely be P182, but about cooling i don't know? I'll add another case in the discussion - Coolermaster HAF 932! This case's cooling looks amazing!
    Please take a look
    http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/coolermaster_haf_932/

I think i might buy this case instead!

The HD4870 is a BIG chip. It's got a lot more in it than a 3870 so will use more power, and the 4870X2 has two of them. Fortunately ATI's clever PowerPlay means the idle power usage of an X2 is almost identical to the 4870 on its own (10W more) and a full 50W less than having two 4870s in normal crossfire, which is something to consider...
