The E7200 hasn't underperformed the E6750 in any bench I've found. The E5200 maybe, but not the 7200.

Rich: You don't always get the BSODs, and activating is just an automated phone process, it's easy.

Cache is the BIG BIG thing these days for sure for sure.

So you're saying, booze, get the used 6750? What do you think Shaff - do I take a chance with a used part versus new with RMA ability?

    http://www.overclock.net/sale/398397-e6750-ip35-pro-g-skill-2x2gb.html
He's already lapped it too. (How do I get mirror finish.) Should I get his board too also for $85? - Abit p35 pro - $149 at newegg (xe version.)

edit: I'm watching these lap videos (no not lap dancing shaff - those cpu lap movies you linked me to) and look at this crazy video crysis versus real life
How'd they make that thing? Was it made by the people at crytek - on location where they modeled all the scenery - the video is not that hd - but half the time I couldn't tell the real time from the reference!!!

    right, okay gimmie a sec.

firstly i was talking about the cooler for the open box.

    as for the mobo,

the P45 P5Q is the first board from Asus which is low end (price) but has super stability and OCability, for $75 GO FOR IT!!

(even if it is second hand)

next, my bad for not reading if it has been lapped, that means no warranty what so ever. BUT heres what you are going to have to consider.

the RAM runs at 333MHz, and so does the E6750, that basically means no Ocing is guarantied. not saying its not possible, as you maybe able to push the RAM, but id think it wont budge much if any.

this means you will have to run it stock, rather than OCed, where as the E5200 has an FSB of 200, tht gives you an extra 133MHz on the FSB to add on, and 333*12.5 (the multi of the E5200) = 4.16GHz.

now, okay you most likely wont reach 4GHz, but 3.3 is very attainable, and at 3.3GHz the E5200 will easily over take a stock E6750.

you see there is always a reason for my choices :)

i would advice getting the tuniq TX-2, and cleaner, as you will be wanting to replace the piss poor TIM on the NB and VRMS and SB that asus give.

Vsita uses about 18GBs clean so id say make 25GB.

the reason for the partitions is, its essential for a pagefile drive, also i reinstall vista 64 every coupl of months, SO i dont want to be installgin everything again, SO games are kept seperate, and dont need a reinstallation.

my storage is seperate for that reason aswell, and backups of the apss hidden folder is then essential.

Hey, if you lose the warranty when you lap - then is it better to put the cpu on first without lapping - to make sure everything works? You do the lapping later when everything is solid, and you start to think about overclocking - is that the right way to do it?

So shaff, we're not going to get the used 6750, we're going for the 5200 then. But you like boozer's $85 Asus p45 used, so I should get THAT instead of the MSI - right mate?

Ok, 25gigs to set aside for Vista. Everything else one big 225gig partition - I never re-install my OS - EVER - just defrag once in a blue moon. :D

Shut up boozer we're getting your mobo! Hahahaha

boozer's cheap used asus $75 mobo shaff says GET IT!

I heard good things about the 6750 too, and I like the big cache, but shaff's the boss on this build since he tipped me over the edge. (I put the brand new 1600rpm scythe that arrived today away for now - no top exhaust fan mod - I shouldn't need it now, all the new pci-e boards run so much cooler than p4.) Lol

    hahahaha, yeah choota bacha, CHUUUP!!!

    ;)

rich, if you are to get PC6400 ram instead of 5300 then i would go for the E6750, BUT as you are limited in budget, the E5200 will be fine. as it is it may even OC more as it uses less strain on the NS due to needing a smaller FSB, and it produces less heat, so with the freezer 7 pro, youd go further with the E5200 over the E6750.

and yes get the asus :)

    Oh dear...
I see you got involved in a webcam call as well.... :)
Rich: At crappy youtube quality you probably wouldn't tell the difference between the game and real life. At so much as 800x600 it would be clear as day.

Something I found pretty lol, the four PCs setup at fragsoc's freshers fair, I don't know the CPUs, but they're all 65nm Core 2s of some kind I think.
    P35C-DS3R, 8800GTS 320MB,WinXP 24" LG (allegedly S-PVA): ran perfectly, frame rate a little lower
P5Q Deluxe, HD4870,WinXP 22" LG: By far the best image quality, one inexplicable crash during the day
Unknown board, 8800 GPU (forget which), Vista,22" Samsung: Random graphics errors all day causing lag.
Unknown board, 8800 GPU, XP, 22" Samsung: No problems.

I ran round the side of all the monitors as most are likely to have been TN, and hardly saw any colour alterations, I don't know what TNs you guys have seen in the past. I'd make the comment about the Vista machine having driver issues with an nvidia card, which was true, but apparently it had driver issues in XP too, so who knows what's going on there. The P5Q/4870 PC's crash seemingly had nothing to do with graphics at all which was rather weird.

In case you're wondering these PCs were playing UT3 DM for 7 hours straight, the last 90 mins or so of which were Instagib, which I owned them all at... :D

Shaf, WTF are you doing saving my pictures? lol At least pick one that doesn't look so bad and isn't webcam quality haha.

    I like this one better.

Thats a crappy cam pic taken from MSN of all things. I don't think it accurately shows what I actually look like haha.

What I meant by other stuff was surfing the net, watching movies, music, downloading, school work, etc. etc

Gaming is more fun on a bigger screen ESPECIALLY ON A HDTV.

@sam, how good are you at UT3, I would play you online sometime but DIAL UP:(, maybe sometime in the future ??

You're probably too far away for it to not be laggy as well, the maximum ping in a fast paced FPS like UT for it to play properly is about 75, and the latency between the UK and eastern US alone is 80ms, let alone the exchanges of the people at either end. I don't know how it affects things to the east.

Yea,it's probably worse here and there is probably even more lag here, as most people use 1mbps connections, as anything faster is quite a bit more expensive

A friend of mine playing gears on a 1MB connection said he had lag, and it wasn't really fun to play

What about racing games, they should be that bad right???

PS - Don't really know much about ping and such could somebody explain it??

@Rich, we can collaborate on your book, and it can become 16000 newbie/noobie questions :p
    What say you?

Games are rarely bandwidth intensive for clients, people hosting need decent connections, but the person joining one doesn't, it's typically less than 10KB/s needed, and a 1Meg connection provides over 100. The problem is the country you live in, the latency to countries that are far away is very high, and most people who game are typically in North America, Western Europe (UK, France, Germany, Spain), Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland) or the far east (China, Korea, Japan)

Racing games are nasty when there's big lag, but tend not to be so much of a problem when there is some, but not much.

Thanks for the info sam, I guess my problem is that I'm far from both the west and far east, hence the lag right??

Also, what is ping (a term I hear a lot when people talk about online gaming)

PS - I know which countries are in Scandinavia :p, but thanks anyway
