It's more than superb. It's a SuperbX2, but only when your drivers are working! ahah

The Corsair HX 1KW is one of the best PSUs money can buy from everything I've read, but I haven't found much to read, the Zalman however, I've seen real reviews of and they are mindblowing, Corsair HX 520/620 units are pretty damn quiet (they're quiet enough for me even) at idle, yet the 1KW Zalman can put out 500W before they're even as loud as the Corsairs at half that figure.

Holy cr*p, the zalman has a dual heat-pipe system inside the PSU (zalman 1000.) Like the corsair it's a split system (I was hoping it was single rail) featuring "ultra quiet" 140mm fan - like corsair. Heat-pipes!!

Zalman have been doing that for a while, irony is, they're so damn efficient, there's not that much heat to get rid of :)

Well for now, my 620HX and my OCZ StealthXstream 600W are running like champs. The OCZ is sertiously the most impressive PSU I have ever used for the price. It was almost half the price of the Corsair but, aside from modular cabling, it's of the same level of performance and quality. Just for the record, it handles 4870's in Crossfire just fine even under IBT max load. But it suits the dual core build better as I want the brute power of the Corsair :p

My 620W Enermax Liberty is making a comeback as well. I was able to order a replacement fan controller for it, so if it even remotely works, I want to use it again. The PSU still works fine, it's just noisy as hell because the fan is stuck at 100% :p

Boozer, which one was superbx2, and what do drivers have to do with a PSU? (lay off the booze lol)

The Corsair on newegg is slightly more expensive than the zalman, shaff, so for the money, it is MORE money. So do you still prefer it to Zalman?

Sam I see your point, the zalman claims 86% efficiency. Greater efficiency equals less heat (back to the problem with tec coolers.) One newegg review on the zalman said it increased his case temp by 3 degrees C so heat is an issue - if other PSUs put out even MORE heat - we don't want that, right?

And Sam is the master of quiet. Sam, is the zalman more quiet than the corsair? They are both running the same type of fan. But is the zalman able to keep things cooler with the heat pipes, so as to keep the fan rpms down compared to the corsair for same power usage? They talked about some kind of space-station-type stepping technology for maximizing efficiency. At 50% the corsair starts a fairly steep 45 degree ramp up in rpm and noise level. What about the zalman?

The Zalman is the quietest PSU ever made, so that's a hard act for the HX 1KW to follow. If it does match it, I highly doubt it would beat it. The Zalman has a relatively gradual noise curve beyond 50%, but nonetheless has one.

Well, "quietest PSU ever" is tough to beat. The Zalman just got added to my "Shaff mofo" newegg new build wishlist :p

It is an admirable unit, and if I was building a no holds barred PSU, I'd probably get one (and since I'd be rich I'd probably get an HX 1000 too to try it out) :)
