The basic idea is, 1.5KW for 29.95 is a HUGE scam because the PSU might make 100W safely. Then it will explode. Seriously, ask Sam. I bet he'd be willing to regale you with horror stories about Q Tec PSUs :p

For PSUs, you should generally go as expensive and high quality as you possibly can. A few budget models here and there might surprise, but the expensive high end ones are worth the effort. They will deliver cleaner power, higher wattage, and be infinitely more reliable.

Never cheap out on your PSU, just getting the most wattage for the lowest price. You WILL regret it.

A good deal? Maybe, but why? Don't you have the same PSU in 650W? I wouldn't bother.

That wasn't a motherboard, that was a hard disk, and yes, it did.

I could use some help. I am trying to hook my computer to my 52" plasma, which is in another room, so I can watch internet tv and stuff off of my external hd on the big screen while still being able to use my existing monitor. Before doing the necessary research, I bought an extension rgb cable, not realizing that my desktop only had one rgb/vga port. I went to the store today to see if I could buy a splitter or something and the guy told me that, for the best quality, I would need to add a second graphics card just for the tv. I have no problem spending a lil extra money to get the best quality but Im not sure what is the right kind of card for this. Again, I only want to watch internet stuff on my tv, not use my tv as a monitor or anything. I have an 2005 Emachines T6410 desktop, Im pretty sure that it is equipped with the PCI Express deal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually no, the HD3450 can only play Crysis on all low at 640x480.

The resolution of youtube videos is even lower than 640x480, so it's impossible to tell (even the high quality ones)

Hahahahaha - that's the funniest thing yet! So they call you boozer in real life???? That's pretty funny too!

Sam, what were you saying - you thought Abuzar pronounced his name with the accent on the last syllable? Actually, come to think of it, in my mind that's how I say it also. So boozer, before we all forget your real name completely in favor of your nickname, are you saying it's pronounced ah-BOOZ-ur ? Or is it ah-booz-ARR after all (how I say it mentally.)

$30 bucks for a 256mb graphics card in the 3000 family - only 40 stream processing units but what is the world coming to?

I finally got to play my medal of honor demo with the installed 3850 card. Lots of install problems - I still don't have catalyst in. 3dmark6 won't run, and on re-install it doesn't like my reg code saved from the last install? Had to re-install .NET framework a couple times.

COD4 looks MUCH NICER!! Holy cr*p. That's like what boozer said once, I was so busy staying alive that I didn't really notice the graphics difference. Shader 3.0 now provides a richer looking environment - light glistens off of object - smoke looks more real, and when a grenade goes off the shock wave looks like part of the screen is glass that has gotten bubbled out - I never saw that before!!

On the bad side, I don't think I'm getting the frames I used to get, and I believe I'll have to turn down all the effects to ZERO. The overall fill rate for this card I don't believe is any better than the x850xtpe it replaced - would you agree Estuansis since you have the same x850?

So my conclusion is - the advantages of shader 3.0 are definite - unquestionably now, it makes sense to think in terms of a $500 graphics card again (the original price of my 9800 when I bought it, and the original price of my x850 when I bought it) which is what the 4870x2 is going for. To be able to game like you guys are doing (at least at 1920x1200) with everything maxed out - YES that's the ticket.

The Medal of Honor demo was nice too. The rain on the streets - looked better than any water I have ever seen. The game itself is not that great - not up to cod4 or cod2 standards - not up to medal of honor pacific assault standards - but I'll buy the whole game on ebay pretty soon anyway. Probably time to replay cod4 and see what I have been missing shader 3 wise. This makes me think that I don't really want to buy any more games until I do the new build - why play a game on an inferior card with everything turned down, and kind of ruin the game that way, when it really should be played on a maxed out system the first time you go through it!
