    Hey dude,

There is a great calculator called PSU calculator. Just google it. Oh, I checked, here's the link: PSU calculator It is free, and allows you to enter all of your devices. It is fairly accurate. If you pay about $2 or $3 it will give you amps on the 12 volt rail, but the free version gives you all the watts. Sam forever was trying to pursuade me to get a new psu, even though I had one that was rated 500 watts - but only 20 amps on 12 volt rail like many of the new ones. So I paid the $3 and it was going to be VERY marginal, especially if you factor in something called capacitor aging which means you lose 15% or so of your PSU output after a few years.

    lol

You are one hyper man. I would get the 4850. Much better bang for buck. Especially since you are saving up for that quad core system.

You should have listened to me and gone with what Shaf originally recommended. I could see you spiraling downwards with the excessive spending ideads, and then you don't end up getting anything ;)

Right now I recommend this for you.

If you open up the side of your case it should be on the label right on the PSU.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Crysis doesn't support any more than 2 GPUs, so in order to max it, we will be waiting at least another two generations, so more like a 6870X2, if such a thing ever exists.

Sure Sam, just go ahead and rain on my parade like that!!

What do you mean Crysis doesn't support .... Can't the good folks at ATI fudge it - you mean we have to have Crytek's cooperation on this thing!!!!

I want to rape and pillage and plunder. Two more generations!!@#$

    Sigh.

Crysis has been out for over a year, but Crossfire X3 or X4 only give the same performance as an X2. The reason being is that Crysis is an nvidia funded game. On the plus side triple SLI will work, so if you buy a Core i7 system you may as well buy nvidia cards, as i7's biggest benefit is being able to use SLI without needing a horrible SLI motherboard. However, you will lose some of the image quality ATI offer, so take your pick. Fortunately, the original Crysis runs pretty well already on a 4870X2, for the first half of the game at least I can run it all Very High with 4xAA applied, at 1920x1200. Warhead however, is far more demanding, I can just about get away with playing at at 1680x1050 with no AA, for it to be properly playable, it needs to be 1440x900.

gonna say this again, but where is the proof that ATI has better IQ than nvidia with the new GTX2x0 series?

Nah I'm too sold on ATI graphics quality to think about nvidia cards - I'll just fall back on hacked crysis fixes - I guess I see their point - if somebody funds your game...... So, I won't pick up crysis for a year or two - like you say, generation 6870x2, with 2.3 teraflops per gpu, about twice as powerful as today's 4870x2.

Here's my new take on the first specs of my New Build-Low cost, coming in at about $720 minus about 120 worth of rebates:

Me again, I'm about fed up with dealing with this card. I calculated the wattage and for everything I have running equals exactly what my computer has to offer=300. I contacted asus tech support and they said I have to have power going into the card but I see no place any cable could be plugged in on the card. Is there anything I can change in the bios screen pre-installation of the card, so that the card wont effect the monitor, because I have no picture at all after installation. Obviously, this is my first time installing a card, all I want to do is to hook up the pc to my television. Thanks everyone for the help.

I wouldn't run any half-decent graphics card on a 300W PSU, mainly because I know of very few 300W units that actually deliver what they say they do.

Is the only solution to buy a new psu? If so, can you recommend one.

Hey Ray, just teasing. So, is there NOBODY running a p4 except for me and Ray's brother? Hmmmmm.

Well, Sam came along and burst my over-eager high tech bubble
so I WILL get a 4870x2. The way I see it, the 4850x2, at 80% of the price of the 4870x2, and delivering about 90% of the performance, the 4850x2 is the better value - but that last 5-10% can make a game playable or not, so for $100 extra.........

Sam, Estuansis, Shaff, Abuzar, all you 4870x2 guys - what is the Best 4870x2 - best cooler, best overclocking?

Almost all the coolers are the same, and none of them overclock very well, you may as well buy the cheapest.
