As you overclock your proc FSB you will OC the ram automaticly on most cases.... or you can change the mem ratio to 1:1 i belive so it equals your cpu's FSB....then you have alot more room to OC.

Have you tried defragging your hard drive?

That temp sounds fine to me under a heavy load. Glad that solved your problem, remember to defrag first for any stutters, slowdowns, or lagging.

51oc is fine under full load, well still not ideal... 60oc is where you should really start worrying...!

    askyew: a question for you.

I have a system similar to yours:

*IC7-G (bios 26, the latest one)
    *Intel P 2.4c
*Corsair 3200LL 2x256 running in Dual Channel mode

    Old AGP card:

    *GeForce 2 MX400, 64Mb

I've been running this at system defaults
from the beginning but now I'd like to
    experiment with some OC.

I've never OCd before so I'd need some
help. Is it possible to OC with such an
old graphics card or doesn't it matter that much?

Can I raise the memory timings to 2-2-2-6
without changing anything else or do I have
to change the FSB simultanously? How about
    the ratios and so on.

    Or perhaps simply like this:

How would you do to begin with?

get ati tool from w1zzard. search for it on google. it lets you overclcok your gfx card to the max whilst still scanning for artifacts so it wont mess up. before you o/c your gfx card i do recommend changing the stock heatsink and fan on it...

    Ask an you shall receive!!
    http://www.ocfaq.com/
Go there and find the package for your card. It will have ati tool for overclocking as well as the omega optimized drivers. Be sure to read the instructions and use driver cleaner to remove the catalyst drivers before installing. W1zzard is wise be sure to contribute to him. I am not sure but there may be a bios mod for your card to set the default speeds higher. There is a bios mod and you can find it here:
    http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/
with the advanced option you fill in the core and memory speed. Be careful!! test your card to be sure that it will operate at the speed before you put it in!!It can also flash your bios back to the original. Like indienemo said you may want to get better cooling for your card, there are several cooling solutions for the 9800 out there.
Edit sorry! They have changed the ocfaq site and you may have to go to driver heaven for the omegas but you can still get ati tool for overclocking from there or driver heaven.

    askyew: thanks for the link!

    Results of my overclocking:

    System:

    Abit IC7-G (BIOS revision 27)
    Intel Northwood P4(HT) 2.4C
    WinXP.SP1
    Corsair PC3200LL 2x256Mb
    Nvidia MX400 (Unknown vendor) AGP4x 64Mb
    Processor fan: Zalman 7000A-CU
Northbridge: Custom mounted Zalman ZM-NB47J Heatsink

    Now running stable (Prime95/Memtest faultfree)
at 41 Celsius idle and 55 Celsius under load
    at these settings:

    FSB=245, multiplier 12(fixed) > 2.94Ghz
    PSB800
    CPU:DRAM = 5:4
    AGP Ratio = Fixed
    AGP/PCI = 66/33Mhz

    Vcore = default (1.525v)
    Vdimm = 2.8v
    AGP Voltage = 1.65v

    Memory timings:

    2.5
    3
    3
    6

I am quite happy with the results, don't know if
i feel the need to go any higher with this.
I run into instability as soon as i change the
fsb to 250 even if i loosen the memory timings
    to 2.5-4-4-6.

    What do you think?

What type of instability problems? You may have to raise the vcore a slight bit. I personally like to run the ram 1:1 it just seems to run faster even at lower fsb speeds, plus alot of people have instability problems using ram dividers. So if you are going to be a serious overclocker you should buy ram that you can 1:1 overclock. Remember if you want high performance you need low mem timings with higher transfer rates.

    hi,

Im loking to upgrade the bios on my gfx card again... if i flash my bios to a X850, (AGP version), when i have a pci express card will that cause it to malfunction???

Found the bios for the x850, in PCI express form... its quite a jump from my current bios, 60mz on GPU, 90mz on Mem. do you think my card would be able to handle it? its got stock heatsink and fan, but i have got a PCI slot blower just underneath and there a few case fans....
