Yeah, you are right, but I really want to get that 6 on the Vista performance rating lol(My XP install went back and I only had Vista lying around, I'll switch back soon). BTW I meant running my ram slower than FSB.

your ram will not hold you back as long as you are running at or below it's rated speed. your setting is about ideal for your OC. you're not going to be able to reach the same OC an E6600 is capable of even with your faster ram.

So you think I'm set at this speed? BTW for the newer games coming out will I require more RAM, because Tigerdirect has a deal going for my kind of RAM for 30 bucks.(Which is extremely cheap for performance ram)

if you're going to continue running vista (ram hungry and I think it sucks) another 2gb would be a good idea but with XP 2gb should suffice.

there should be a dram freq setting in your bios. set it to the closest setting to 667 you can. who makes your mobo? some manufactures have a dram divider setting instead.

    marsey99,
Yes and no! I use it in that context because you can never draw 500 watts out of a 500 watt PS for very long. Usually the ratio between the input voltage and the output voltage is reasonably around that amount. I would have to drag out my scientific calculator to do all the complex math involved. There are so many factors involved in the calculations, it's mind boggling. Heat alone can change so many of those factors in an instant.

I hear what you are saying! A 600 watt PS drawing 800 watts is about 75% efficient, but you can't draw all of those watts as it would incinerate the PS because of excessive heat. To a degree, the ratio works somewhat the same for output. Not scientific or exact but it gives you a bit of a guide when you add up all the demands from the various components. Like I said, the math alone is pretty complex. The real problem is that the numbers can be manipulated to make something look better than it really is and still be legally correct. That's a good reason there are so many junk power supplies on the market. Unscrupulous manufacturers attain their efficiency numbers at a lower output wattage, thereby making their cheap product seem as good as a higher quality one who's maximum efficiency comes in at a much higher output wattage. It's a bit of a see-saw, smoke and mirrors act as both are technically correct but the difference is obvious!

You are right of course, that's not the way it works, but as a rough guide it's not too bad either!

    Best Regards,
    theone :>}

Russ, you know what, you always post best regards on the end of your posts and you make me feel bad because I don't lol. I think I need to put something like that on the end of mine, but then again I can't put best regards because you will think I am copying you and am not really sincere. But I don't feel like thinking of something else so I put nothing on the end.

On topic: I guess my board can't do RAM speeds less than FSB.

its an Asus P5k-v i searched for 10 minutes and found nothing (my only other option is auto, and I would guess that would set it at the same thing now)

check out the link on my sig, it should give you some info on my set-up

    Edit, and totally off topic:

    mikeh0303,

I just dl'ed the manual for your mobo. under the advanced menu and then jumper free configuration, it does show a setting for dram frequency. BTW what bios vs do you have? the latest is 0402.

member title means nothing to me. there are several members and senior members that I would listen to way before some addicts. just because somebody has posted a lot of times doesn't necessarilly mean they are especially intelligent or knowledgable about the topic at hand.

    abuzar1,

I don't know why but I was thinking you had faster memory than PC2 6400. I was thinking it was PC2 8000. your memory might perform better running at 420mhz with a fsb:dram ratio of 1:1. the only way to tell is to perfom memory bandwidth benchmarks where it is now and do the same at 420mhz at 1:1.

mikes best option would probably be to get some PC2 6400 or faster memory. newegg has a good deal on 2gb matched sets of corsair XMS2 PC2 6400 memory right now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034 only $75 after MIR.
