Me too, my power supply fan at idle is the loudest noise in my PC by far now, and that's a mere 25dB or so, if that.
But in any case, the Corsair HX series can handle 400W before the fan ramps much above minimum speed. I doubt he'll need that much power, I really do. An 8600GT uses hardly any power at all, which is less than can be said for mine.

I have a corsair HX-620 p/s and can't hear the fan. then again, I'm not a gamer and my video card is not as power hungy as most of this generations top end gpu's. I suppose it was fairly power hungry back in it's generation when it was one of the top dogs but back then there weren't too many p/s's over 650 watts.

The 620W Corsair is the quietest PSU on the market. Full stop. I'm not surprised you can't hear it. This comes from a silencing enthusiast, I really want one!

Sorry to ask again, lost track of the posts.

    @NuckNFuts
I think most the regulars have the GA-965P-DS3...or like me the Older S3...

Your looking for the GA-P35-DQ6 Right?..

I don't think anyone has one yet...just people talking about getting one...

    Sorry..:)

Yes, DQ6 of either P35 but since now it is taking so log for our local Fry's to get them and I got a offer for the X38-DQ6 for only $50 more might just skip str8 to that one.

I think the refferences to the "S" version will help in terms of learning more about their use of C/P state and ACPI under normal and overclocked modes. So I'm all ears, if you can share.

    sammorris,
That goes for the W0093 TR2-500 Watt Thermaltake ver 2.0 I have in mine as well. I've yet to be in a situation where you can hear it at all. This was a redesign of the original, that had the plastic shield on the outside third of the fan and was quite loud. This one is rated at 17dB@1300 rpm. So far it's been whisper quiet, regardless of what I do with the computer. I'm sure my case airflow has a lot to do with that, as it pulls CPU heat away from the PS fan's intake!

17dB, but because it's thermaltake, it's actually 26dB. You know better than to believe Thermaltake's ratings Russ!

    sammorris,
Witness the Thunderblade! LOL!! Actually though, it's a lot quieter than 26dB. If I had to guess I would say about 21dB. It's very quiet! Light years quieter than the original!

if it were 21dB, it would be just about audible in a silent room from 1m away. Is it a 120mm or 140mm in yours?

    sammorris,
120! I bench tested it to be sure it worked before I installed it and you can't hear it from 2' away. It's extremely quiet. I'm sure if it ran hot enough that it would make much more noise as the fan is rated at 98.6 cfm at 2500 rpm! Even running OCCT for 12 hours (which I'll never do again!) didn't make the noise louder and I slept right next to it! Very quiet PS and a good re-design! The first TR-2 was very loud compared to this one!

Hmm, interesting, and you say the lexan sheet was removed? Are any other of the electronics different? I'm contemplating doing it to my Toughpower...Changing to the thermalright cooler has stopped the PSU from ramping up anywhere near as much and now my CPU is dead silent, but it still ramps up a lot.

Looks like the black edition x2 5000 is showing some promise.
From 2.6 to 3.52ghz on air without vcore increase isn't to shabby!!Here

    Crowy,
Yes, but how much work can it do. We all know that MHz means nothing. You can run a D-950 up to 4 MHz, but it won't beat the C2D in terms of work! The crappy benchmarks shown by Custom PC (PCMark05 instead of Sandra) of the x2 6400+ leave a lot to be desired compared to the C2Ds. It also runs hot!
