Thanks Nuck for that excellent explanation of what the Northbridge and Southbridge do. I had no idea until now what people were going on about!. As far as cooling is concerned, Russ and other people have recommended that I get the northbridge cooled via aftermarket cooler so my quetion is, whats the best heatsink I could go for with this MB?.

    All The Best :eek:S

Just went into the Bios and tried changing the memory multiplyer to 2.66, it seems I cant as it goes up in steps of 50 so I left it at 2.50, the next one up is 3.00 which I'm guessing is to high as it sends the memory frequency upto 1000!. I've copied the timings over as recommended anyway.

Heres a quick update of my bios now:

    Robust Graphics Booster [Auto]
    CPU Clock Ratio [10x]
    CPU Host Clock Control [Enabled]
    CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) [333]
    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) [100]
    C.I.A.2 [Disabled]
    System Memory Multiplyer (SPD) [2.50]
    Memory Frequency........................................800....................833
High Speed DRAM DLL Settings [Option 1]
    DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD) [Manual]
    x CAS Latency.................................................5........................5
    x DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay....................5........................5
    x DRAM RAS# Precharge ............................5........................5
    xPrecharge Delay (tRAS) ............................18........................18
    xACT To ACT Delay (tRRD)........................3........................3
    xRANK Write to Delay..................................3........................3
    xWrite To Precharge Delay...........................6........................6
    xRefresh To ACT Delay...............................48........................0
    xRead To Precharge Delay............................3........................3

    Memory Performance Enhance [Normal]

******* SYSTEM VOLTAGE NOT OPTIMIZED ********
    xDDR2 Overvoltage Control [Normal]
    xPCI-E Overvoltage Control [Normal]
    xFSB Overvoltage Control [Normal]
    x(G)MCH Overvoltage Control [+0.1v]
    xCPU Voltage Control [1.33125v]
    xNormal CPU Vcore 1.32500v

PS. The Refresh To ACT Delay is on 48, should I also copy this figure into the manual setting aswell or leave it at 0?

What would you say caused the error?, I'm getting excellent gains in peformance since I adjusted this lot but now I want to make it as stable as posible, then from there maybe upping the FSB and memory.

As always any suggestions are much appreciated!

    Thanks, Sam.

Well I can only assume it's derived from an instability. What settings have you changed from last time?

    sheeny33,
You will probably need more CPU voltage than that! Some require more than others. I would try setting it at 1.40v. That's about the same as I needed at that speed. You can also set that 48 to 0. That it lasted longer means you are going in the right direction. What's the multiplier on your CPU? The S3 is a good board but not as good as the DS3. If you raise the voltage to 1.40v and it still crashes lower the FSB a little bit and try again
Why? I'm on Firefox and I see everybody's sig just fine!

My E6750 should be here Monday or Tuesday. Got it from Directron for $204 (USD) total! It's going to be interesting to see the performance difference between it and the E4300! It should do beter with twice the L2 cache and a 1333 FSB!

    Clock On,

vistas crap, ive put ubuntu linux on her pc now, got it on this one too, much more fun and better eyecandy than vista too

    crowy,
I know that you wouldn't do anything like that, but you wouldn't believe how many people get a virus just that way. LOL!! Some people just can't resist seeing what something is, even when it says "Do Not Open"! I fix a lot of computers that people do that with! LOL!!

Do you have any experience with laptops for some schools that have the school network in ROM? I have one right now and even after changing the HD it pops up an error message when starting up because it can't find the network! I guess they were made for this particular schools Intel wireless network. It says Intel(R) Boot Agent FE v4.1.10. Then it says PEX-E61: Media Test failure, check cable and PXE-M8F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent. It's got to be in ROM!

    Best Regards,
    Russ :>)

I'm at work at the moment so gotta make this quick!lol,
Russ, when you said try 1.40v on CPU I take it you mean
    "CPU Voltage Control [1.33750v]"

In reguard to the "DIMM OverVoltage Control", is that the "DDR2 Overvoltage Control" in my bios?

    Best Wishes,Sam.

Sheeny, you're right on both accounts. That's what he means by CPU and the other thing IS DDR2 voltage control.

    sheeny,
Yes! What I do is check the specs for the voltage, like mine is 1.9-2.0v and I set it at +1. The memory will run at 2.1v, which should be fine!

    Best Regards,
    Russ
