you need to make sure that you have pure video enabled within most apps to get the most out of video play back apps. have a quick red of this see if it helps http://blog.amalji.com/2007/11/magic-of-purevideo-on-windows-media.html
A bit of brand plugging there GTR? EVGA make decent quality hardware, but right now the two graphics cards to buy I feel are the HD3870 and the new G92-8800GTS. I'll pass on the 8800GT simply because it's older tech, it's not so much faster than the 3870 that it makes up for this fact.
The new 8800GTs is not worth it. Most cases the performance is close to the 8800GT, but with a retail price of 100 USD more. Also if the 8800GT is old tech, so is the 8800GTS. I am talking about the new G92 8800GTS BTW.
It is indeed, hence how it was able to get such high scores at a low price. All that said though the 3870 is almost as fast and has far better features, so I would either go with a 3870 or a G92-8800GTS. The 8800GTX is maybe on average 5% faster than the new 8800GTS, so other than for running Crysis on huge resolutions, the GTX is now not really so useful, a bit like the old GTS.
New tom's hardware benchmarks in, the average result for the G92 version of the 8800GTS is a mere 5% away from the 8800GTX. I still say that's a reasonable deal for someone looking for extended performance from a single card. Overclocking yields are 9%.
what will happen if GTX is built on G92?...it will be much faster theres one thing i don't get...HD3870 has newer technology and faster clock speed than HD 2900XT, but HD3870 is just behind HD2900XT
Not so in all the benchmarks, read them more closely, or check out the post I've just made in the ultimate dream computer thread.
Laptops can be overclocked, but will quickly run into cooling issues usually. Unless you're willing to modify the laptop extensively (such that it isn't portable any more) you'll find heat a real issue under heavy load.
man...rather get a computer then...its much cheaper... @sammorris check "The Official Budget-Conscious Dream Machine!"
How much is something like this over what I already have now? I will likely go with the MSI or ASUS. How does the BFG or XFX rate in upper end cards? I already spent $325+ I will put asside a $600. budget for my single ATI later ito next year but for now... I'm not needing to spend more then $350 for a 2nd card. It is gonna hold me over till I deside what ATI HD card I want for my main X38 mobos. I will likely convert to Crossfire and drop SLI for now. So I only need a good medium level single nVidia for some gaming for the fam, but 2D tweakabliity for my HD media work and playback. I also like the idea of the single slot cooling so I can add my own if I OC it enough.
Well, the 8800GTS G92 is pretty much as fast as an 8800GTX, but using 512MB of RAM. It also costs around $100 or £50 less. The HD3870 is only as fast as an 8800GT, but uses newer pixel shading and Directx support technology than any of the 8800s, the new GTS included.
IF you have the 8800Gt, then the G92 8800GRS is not that much better. I wouldn't get it, I would just wait for the new Nvidia cards.
@abuzar1 whoa...8800GRS?...is that a new card...LOL...Typo! yep...waiting for a new card...trying to sell my current card to make money...later i'll sell my whole computer...
Agreed. If you can afford the G92 version of the GTS then go for it over the GT, but there's little reason to upgrade from a GT to GTS.
