One thing that's just occurred to me. Why is all this in the overclocking thread? The 8800GS is on pre-order in the UK for £135, the same price as the HD3870. The HD3850 in that benchmark is the 256MB version.
Marsey, look man the 3850 IS 256 MB. In fact we still COULD compare the 3850 512MB versions with the 256MB 8800GT because the 3850 512MB IS STILL CHEAPER.
i dont recall them saying it was the 256 version as i think those charts are from legitreviews arent they? good point sam. the g92 overclocks better than the rv670 then mine will game at 835 core 1050 mem and 2020 shaders *goes to check* ^^^ edit stands errected, i mean corrected. still i dont think 256mb is enough as it still cripples the card when you turn on the filters and everybody wants some aa at least. im still happy with the choice i made as it was £230 wellspent in my eyes, if you think what the 3850 256mb does is worth the money then thats is your right just as much. so how much of an oc can you get out of the 3850 then?? ps STOP FOO KING SHOUTING
Well I don't recall them saying it's 512MB either, and as the 256MB is more common it's safe to assume that it's 256MB. As for clocks well: Stock GPU: 668MHz Stock Mem: 825 Mhz OC GPU: 730 OC Mem: 920 I haven't really tried to push it yet. I just set these clocks up the first day I got it. My temps are about 40ish.
first thing i do is push it till it breaks then back it down a bit. how much of an improvement does that give you in any benchmarks you have run?
http://www.ngohq.com/news/13260-amd-moving-up-launch-dual-gpu-graphics-card.html Industry sources are telling us that AMD will be releasing its dual-processor R680 graphics card one week early. The NDA on all the technical specs was due to lift on January 28th, but our source tells us this has been moved up to the 23rd. We’ve yet to get a confirmation from anyone at AMD. The upcoming R680 contains two graphics processors on a single board and will eventually allow four processor CrossFire mode on select motherboards. let the games begin ) just flashed my 3870 to the newer bios which allows higher clocks, so Ill have a fiddle with it a bit later, not realy in any need to oc it , Its just cos I can lol.
SLi doesnt scale as well xfire. and trisli scales horibly aswell. xfire is newer tech. the 3870x2 is priced at $449 so should be about £270-£280 in the usual first week price hikes. GTXs are priced the same.
^On the most recent video (cant find it, but it is somewhere on youtube), some guy got to go into AMD's "black room" and got to ask the ATi guy a few questions, and according to him it will be around $300 US. I will try to find the video.
i am deffo sure it will be $449 because that $300 price is the UK equivalent of the 3870. source: http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/Radeon_HD_3870_X2_Launch_On_Jan_23rd,_Costs_US$_449/5504.html
True your prices will get hiked up a bit. I REALLY hope it's around 300 so that I can afford one lol.
sammorris, First off, the bit about updating the fans was clearly a joke, and was said in fun! If that makes me a "cretin", then I'm sorry! I just thought that it was funny when ck5134 mentioned that his MB temp dropped 12C when he increased the fan speed of his video card to 100%, and he mentioned "make note to self"! Your own words mentioned that "they don't move a lot of air, but they don't have to"! That's why I made the joke in the first place, as you said the same thing a couple of weeks ago! If there was a mistake in understanding what ROFLTIH means, it means Rolling on the Floor Laughing till it hurts! If it was taken to mean something different, then I'm sorry, as I wasn't trying to offend anyone! If the price of complete silence is an additional 12C of MB temperature, just to make no noise, count me out! When your video card fan is removing that much heat, it's time for better performing case fans! there is a huge difference between quiet and silent! if that attitude, on my part makes me a "moron" then I guess a lot of us here qualify! My computer is a good deal quieter today than when I first built it. In fact it's gotten a couple of DBa quieter in the last couple of days since I decided to let the motherboard control the fans. It runs cooler and quieter than I can get if I control the fans manually! Respectfully, Russ
Oh look your getting respect from the oldest man on our forums. That's something to be proud of. Russ, did you get my email? BTW I wasn't trying to insult you or anything. So If you don't like the oldest man comment let me know... EDIT: Looks like you got it. Thanks dude.
abuzar1, Actually, there are older people here than me! LOL!! I only invented Mud, not Fire! ROFLMAO!! Best, Russ

What company is this computer from? If it is pre-built from Compaq, HP, Dell, etc, they don't allow you to overclock.
