Russ, I think Sam apologized in the other thread. We don't need to lose a knowledgeable guy like you.

I've sent him an apologetic email. We'll see where things stand. Who'd have thought a set of graphics cards would tear friends apart? I'm half minded never to buy either on this basis alone. I fell out with someone over the X800/6800 debate, and had a heated debate over the 7900/X1900, do I learn?

I'm still waiting for my T9300 Core 2 Dual (2.5GHz/6mb L2/800FSB) and may have to replace my 6 month notebook just to use it now till Montevina (P35 mobile on DDR3) comes. It can OC to at least 2.85 so far and more testing will show better I hope. My current T7700 of 2.4 can hit 2.85 easy so I hope to get more out of my new Penryn.

Mobile Overclocking, It's what's for the new craze.

it boots at 1.55v but needs 1.62v to stay stable (no bsod or instant crash in orthos) but i know im pushing my cooling over its limits for now. it takes orthos less than a min to get my cores to 70c and thats as far as i let it go and turned it off. i think 1.62v is a touch too much for air cooling in a warm living room with the heating on :D but its there so....im looking into some water cooling and an antec quad 850 psu to keep it all going smooth.

all i have done is put an old heatsink on to the power regs with some sticky thermal pads and the vdroop has almost vanished. i also think the top notch airflow thru my case helps.

    nice isnt it :D

only took my 11 month to get + 100%, i just need to up the cooling and we are set, payday on friday so the visa might be out in the morning.

    edit

it idles at 34c but i sh@ myself at 70c underload(i wonder if everest is missreading in vista? hope so) and stopped the test.

    1.62V? No wonder.
As for the freezer 7 pro, 70C under load is about right for that voltage. I think that reading's correct. I got about 50 at 3Ghz, 1.42V, and only 40C when it was stock. +100mV added 10 degrees, so +300mV you'd get plus 30C, so 70.

You also realise at that voltage that the CPU will be permanently destroyed in about 8 weeks? It's not just heat you have to consider when upping the voltage.

electronic migration? yea i know but if i blow it it gives me a reason to get somthing else, plus i gain a new keyring :D

my temps are cool(pun intended) as i only hit 50c on the cores at 3.4ghz on 1.45v and it will do 3 on 1.325v now but once above 3ghz it gets real volt hungry.

its back at 3.2ghz(1.425v) like it has been for the best part of a year now.

what i have found out before when playing was that it no longer seems to need as much juice as it did before tho, i can drop the volts by .025v and still stay stable comparred to what it wanted. guess its the lack of vdroop?

im a happy bunny tho :D right off to bed as im on work tonight.

    edit

anyone seen any reviews of 2gb(x2) sticks of ram that oc?

Sam, I currently have my CPU overclocked to 3.2Ghz (400FSB @ 8multi), will it be a while before my CPU starts to show damage? I had my older P4 3.2Ghz @ 3.8Ghz for quite some time... Had no problems with it either.

How long can I keep the CPU at 3.2Ghz? If I turn it back to defaults, will it prolong the life back to where it should be in the beginning? I have the voltage set to "auto" in the BIOS, the ram @ 4-4-4-12 800Mhz @ 2.2v.

It's not the mhz that are harmful, only the voltage.
Marsey: Perhaps, but you don't really want to be buying a new cpu every few weeks.

i have had a year out of this one and its performed like a trooper @3.2ghz for most of it, but hey if i do blow a few chips..well thats life init.

if you overclock thats the risk you take, you know that as do we all, even upping the mhz a bit increases the migration its all down to luck with how good your cpu is.

    dam time for work:(
