Do you have this model http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2718 ?

Could you please let me know if you can adjust the Zalman fan speed using Rivatuner or other software.

    Thanks

Any fan plugged into a motherboard should be adjustable using speedfan.

They're talking about the graphics board not the motherboard.

Astral, download rivatuner. It will allow you to change the fan speed.

The zalman fan on the GPU may be 3 pin, in which case he can move it to the motherboard. Or, as you say, rivatuner *should* be able to do it.

    Thanks for your reply.
I do not have the card yet, I was asking if it's possible to adjust the fan speed for the Zalman on gigabyte hd 3850, because I read on other forums that on 8800gt it can't be adjusted...

Here you can find a snapshot with the card and cooler :

From the closeup it looks like a two-pin standard fan. Given this, Atitool should be able to control the speed.

if its anything like the 3870 the fan control is through the bios set to ramp up at certain temps, rivatuner lets you change it to a default single speed, but to be honest if the ramping is set like it is on the 3870 it will be cool enough and quiet enough as standard, mind you you could have it running slightly faster as standard and reduce the temps in your case a bit as the cards are quite hot.

speedfan doesnt support the Gigabyte GA-M565-S3 but then again the cpu fan control in the bios is adequate. getting a 790fx board and another 3870 soon, god its made gaming such a joy on the eyes with one card, so in for a penny in for a pound or couple hundred more atleast lol.

CK, have you even paid attention to your fan? It doesn't ramp up when it gets hotter it always stays at 25%. That's why I had to download rivatuner and set it to 55%.

^ One question, why would you buy a board with a nvidia chipset if you're getting a Ati card?

I dont get why I see people sigs in other forums, and the have a X38 board but then have a 8800GTX. It puts the 2 PCI-e slot to waste, not to mention it's PCI-e 2.0. I dont think they would want to "downgrade" to a ATi card as a 8800GTX is better than a 3870 - performance wise, and we all know that.

Well the X38 is the latest in greatest. It probably gives better performance overall. If they don't plan to SLI then it's a good choice.

But the 780i boards are just coming out... And wouldnt a 8800GTX work better with a nvidia chipset than a chipset designed for ATi cards?

My fan ramps up ok, i flashed the card to the newer bios, and everything works fine, mind you I only play at 1200 x 1600 so i guess its not straining it too much, but it definatley ramps, my case is silent and the card is the only audible noise, when running 3dmark06 you hear it ramp twice.

That chipset is not designed for ati cards per-se. It just happens to support CF. It also is a better overall chipset then the Nvidia chipsets.

this build was only so i could see what the 3870 was like, and now i know i like it, i will get another and a Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5 , which when ran with 2 x 3870's > 1 8800gtx on some games on others it doesnt, but with driver updates it will catch up on the ones it doesnt. plus better image quality with the 3870's.

Sorry I have a 3850, but I though they had the same problems. If I try to use that BIOS, well "poof!" would describe what would happen.

I hate the fact that the 8800GT is a single slot! It could use the extra cooling.

I found the old bios did control the fans speed, just it didnt ramp the speed up much, i know the older bios for the 3870 started at 25% speed @ 60ºc, the update has only taken it up 5% to 30% speed, in general use you dont realy notice the ramping but it is there. but you dont realy begin to notice the fan noise until it exceeds 50 - 60 % speed, which is when the gpu is around 70 - 80ºc.

I've never found a stock cooler I love the look of, really. The ones on the 3800 series cards are excellent, and far better than stock coolers of old, but given the absurdly low cost they're manufactured to, it's always wise to get something a little more powerful, a Zalman, Arctic or Thermalright cooler. Not necessarily to overclock, but for peace of mind and peace and quiet.
As far as the second PCI express 16x slot goes, it could potentially be useful for a hardware RAID card, not just multiple graphics. On the whole though, I've not found it a problem using one type of graphics card with one type of chipset. On the whole though, I've had two motherboards fail on me (faulty chipset), both were Asus, and both had nvidia chipsets. Who's to blame?
