krj15489, I know mine only has a mild overclock at 650/1600MHz. It will do a good bit higher too! It's limits are 728/1720MHz. Very good overclocker! Best Regards, Russ
I don't know about you guys, but I see more of a performance boost from OC'ing the CPU rather than the GPU. Besides, I can only go to 660/1600. I notice about a 1.5/2FPS difference where as with the CPU from 1.8GHz to 2.11GHz, I get a 7-8FPS difference. It's obviously because of the allowance to set it higher.
Mine topped out at about 700mhz and i don't remember what the memory was. but i ran completely stable with core at 680mhz.
You could just have a cpu bottleneck. i got big increase in fps when i overclocked my 7600. but now with my 8800gt i have a cpu bottle neck and overclocking does almost nothing.
bottlenecks are a pita, my 76gt wasnt a great clocker only hitting 640/1680 but when i changed from a 3400+@2.5ghz to a e4300 i gained about an extra 15%. that was on a last gen gpu, if i run mine at stock speeds atm i would get about9k in 3d06 but if i oced my gpu i might get a 1k in points but ocing my cpu as well has me hitting over 14k and as of yet im still not sure if they found the point at which cpus stop bottlenecking current gen gpus. quite relavent really, what kind of proc power will you need to power 3 or 4 g cards in pcie 2. slots with out starving them of the info they need???
3DMark06 is quite CPU dependant in its scores, as such it does not always give a true reflection in real gaming performance, although it does show how likely you are to suffer CPU bottlenecking. Changing from an E6600 @3.6Ghz to a Q6600 at same speed took my score up over 2K to 17.5K in 3D06, but real frame rate increases in games has been nothing at all to warrant the upgrade. One thing to note though, I do play all games max'd out in quality and size 'if they go to 2560x1600, thats what they get set to' maybe there are different gains seen at lower resolutions, bit I haven't tested for them.
Well that's exactly it, as you can see from the frame rate the 3dmark test pulls when running rhe CPU test, it doesn't exactly replicate a real world environment for the test. If, on the theoretical side of things you had an infinitely fast CPU, 3dmark would effectively give you an infinite score based on that fact, even though the GPU would limit your game performance. Additionally, as BigDK says, when you game at such high resolutions, your CPU limit isn't really top of your list of priorities.
I have a related subject question. Who has experience with loss data to to check disc errors or file corruption. Not just for files deleted my me to recycle, files damaged by crash and or deleted by check disc fail. ThanX
Don't know if this link is of any help, for I haven't had the need for any of these utilities, but..... http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?qt=check+disk&tag=srch&tg=dl-20
First of all hi to theonejrs! long time! I just put the q-6600 in my system oc'd to 3.2 and temps are running at 25c. does that sound right? system seems to be stable.
baltekmi. Good to see you! Sounds fine to me! How's it run? Better yet, how do you like it? I don't know what MB or memory or anything like that you have, but the 25C sounds very good! Doesn't sound like you had to struggle to get it there! Best Regards, Russ
Run the PC in Orthos for half an hour or so and see what the temps reach. The killer with the quads is the load temperature, of course.
@ AMD guys, What kind of OC'n can I get out of these Phenom Agena 9600's? I have an extra ThermalRight Ultra 120 to drop on it if need be, if they get hot like the 6400+ BE. I am still on the 3yo nV590 ASUS CROSSHAIR but with new BIOS for Phenom so not sure if it's gonna' be as good if on a new nv7x. I will likely grab one here shortly to keep on DDR2. Wow, 3yrs, that sounds old. As you can see,I don't usually upgrade my AMD side as often. Not since s939. How long do we have left on AM2 before we need a new socket? EDIE: Oh ya, what kind of volts are you guys using on the x2 6400 BE to hold 3.5? Mine needs 1.52v fro a 1.19v vdroop under load. Is this fair for AMD. It does get nice and hot for the 9700 Zalman both lapped to eachother. What is too warm for these cores? I think it was pushing 63c last time under load at only 3.45GHz.
Well I know that Phenom Agena 9600 Black Edition only does 2.6ghz to 2.7. You know the Q6600 is such a better choice as it OCs so much more and is only 10 dollars more.
ok...went in an had a mess about in the bios..set the cpu fsb frequency up to 300,using ATITOOL 0.27 to check on things.. Core is sittin at - 796.00 memory - 693.00 fan speed is 47% GPU temp is 43 i have no idea if this is a good or a bad thing... my cpu was 1.8...its now sittin at 2.7 Im pretty new to all this an dont really wanna wreck my pc,lol

I don't know much about the 2600XT's clock speed, but your CPU clock speed is pretty good. You might get past 3Ghz on that CPU. What are your CPU temps?
