I just learned today that you can buy a Asus P5E motherboard and just flash it to a Rampage Formula! The P5E was available for a 100 dollars open box at newegg! Now it's 170, I feel so bad for no buying it.

Nonetheless you surely are going to be missing chipset cooling and power regulators though?

are you sure? I know you can flash the maximus formula with rampage formula bios but never heard of doing it to a P5E.

WOW a person would be goofy not to flash their P5B or maximus formula. I can tell you 1st hand the rampage formula has the best bios I have ever used/seen.

I'm thinking about switching the E6850 and Q6600 for giggles and such. I'd like to see how far the E6850 will go with the Striker Extreme compared to the P35-DS3P. hmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Any ideas guys??

It was 100 bucks TWO DAYS ago. Hopefully it goes down soon, because I'm pissed. The Rampage formula and the P5E are virtually identical. Even if it doesn't perform as good(and it probably wont), it's still close performance for 200 dollars less.

Anyway if the deal comes up again I will let everyone know. I'm gonne be checking everyday. Hell I'll buy 3 extra and sell them on eBay!

You better PM me or call me or something, BECAUSE if you get all they have and I don't get one I'm driving to Florida to kick ye arse. hehehe. :p

That's insane btw. Basically the same features (not the same mobo I know) for $200 less. Like Morty said... WOW!!! /me wants one....

After doing the math, I've settled on an AMD 4450E 2.3GHz 45w CPU to replace the 3600+ Sempron that's in it. I guess I can be one of the first ones to get one of the new 65nm AMD CPUs! LOL!!
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103256

The price on the others went up so I settled for this one. My choice was either this or an Athlon 64x2 4800+ @2.4GHz. At 45 watts, the 4450E should run cooler and is only .1GHz slower than the 4800+!

Best Regards and thanks for the input,
    Russ

Indeedy, there have been plenty of 65nm AMD CPUs along the original architecture. Shame the shrink didn't yield performance benefits eh? (Not that I ever thought it would...)

    sammorris,
It will be good enough for my purposes. In addition to the CPU, I'm installing 2GB of G.Skill 800MHz Ram and the same model Thermaltake 500w PSU that I have in mine now. In addition I get the 1066 memory for mine and it doesn't cost me anything! I think my roommate is going to take it and get rid of the D-940. Aside from the crappy PSU that comes with it, the eMachine is well made so it shouldn't have any problems with a decent PSU installed!

    ck5134,
I should have said "one of the newest low wattage (45w) 65nm chips"! LOL!! :<)

    Best Regards,
    Russ

Hi there i just overclocked to my PC to 3 GHz for the first time ever. It seems to be running fine with no crashes etc, i did a stress test where the CPU temperature climbed to 65 Celcius, again no crashes.

However my problem is every time i restart my PC i either get a "system boot error" and have to press F1 to continue to Windows or the bios screen does not load at all.

    My Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6600
    Asus P5N32 SLi

Idle temperature when overclocked to 3HZ is 35 Celsius.

Any help is welcome as i have never overclocked before.

seems your oc is stable when your board is warm but doesnt like to cold boot, not to uncommon with asus boards. here is a great thread for overclocking that board and im sure they can solve all your overclocking issues there :D

russ what does the fsb max out at on your board?

sam if you peel the p5e sticker off the pcb guess what it says underneath? it even has the solder points for the chips and stuff they left off.

I'm well aware, but just because it's the same PCB doesn't mean it's the same board.

    marsey99,
I had it to 500MHz when I pushed the 6750 briefly to 4.0GHz with the Crucial ballistix memory, so that would be 500x8. I only ran it that way for about an hour and had to give the Ram back to my friend. The CPU required 1.57v to do it though, so sensibly I lowered it (and the voltage) and I'm happy with the way it runs at 3.5GHz. I see what I can do with it when I install the G.Skill 1066 memory, later this week. Memory speed is what's causing my OC problems. Mostly the screen will just freeze, and you have to shut off the power as it doesn't reset.

Frankly, I like the way it runs at 3.5GHz. First thing I'm going to do is set the memory multiplier to 2.5 and see how it runs with the memory at 1096MHz and better timings. Presently it's running at 876MHz at 5-4-4-12!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

If you peel of the Sticker from the Asus P5E it says Maximus Formula.
